The woman in this video has a fascinating face. She is beautiful, certainly, yet detached and cold, almost as if she is there in person and yet somehow strangely distant. Myshkin is a child, yet profoundly spiritual, like someone who has suffered tremendously in his life, yet cannot understand how and why it affects him. It is interesting that Dostoevsky chose this individual to relate one of the most profound events in his life.

Refering to the Jesus/idiot-comment: (Maybe you know already)in some of his letters to his friends the author often compared Myshkin to Jesus, but unlike Jesus the character is too childlike, too naive...

Interesting fact: here Myshkin is telling a story from Dostoyevsky's life. He was sentenced to death and was already at the place of execution (Peter and Paul's fortress in St-Petersburg, hence the guilted spire of the cathedral from the fortress in the video) and at the last moment the tzar arrived and changed the sentence. That is why this scene is so powerful; and Mironov is absolutely fantastic at portraying the tention.

Unfortunately there is no :(. But they were afraid to lose the beauty of Dostoevsky word so they have done it very close to the text. So you can take the book and find the appropriate scene - it's a huge text so it is better to take it from the book. I cannot imagine so many subtitles :)) Oh, if you have found it - pls, post a link, i want to show it to my friends

the greatest novel ever. I loved this film adaptation. My first experience about The Idiot happened to be in my hometown theatre. Short after I read the novel. Five times at least since then. Mesmerizing story and characters.
