  • The anti-SUP lot are a form of racists, or discriminators. Those who restrict freedom do not deserve it themselves. With that said, I stay away from crowded breaks, or try to catch the bigger outside waves.

  • Great clip. Etiquette is paramount no matter what you're riding. Respect. Safety. We're lucky enough to be able to find our own peaks on the East Coast. Some people aren't so lucky with their overcrowded spots. I can't speak for where others surf, but we self-police, keeping new SUP surfers out of the main peaks and lineups, make sure they have leashes ad are in control. It works well where we are, but again, there's more room here and people are more likely to listen.

  • urban surfing face this problem !! for the rest its cool. crowd determind the factor of risque. i find my way !! i get my own break its simple . you are all invited !!!! 1 AT THE TIME.....

  • like the snowboard in the 90's, SUP is here to stay, you can't do anything about it! stop moaning! and have fun!

  • What a joke, Pezman wants the nanny state to come up with more rules, more laws more fines. Just another excuse for the state to take our money, he forgets the decades of surfboard bans. I dont like SUPS in the lineup either but its not the govts job to regulate every aspect of our lives. End the nanny state mentality!

Pezman and his ilk should just go live in a nice gated wave pool community and wear a helmet and knee pads to check his mail or mow his grass.

  • Just learn to play nicely and take turns, it's what we tell kids!

  • Firstly there's a problem with sharing & respect! SUP 'gluttons' who haven't earned the rank to be in the lineup attempting to hustle & dominate the lesser advantaged guys who have spent more time in the water. Secondly, and more important : they are DANGEROUS!! if u cannot control your equipment you shouldn't be in the water FULL STOP!!

  • Nothing like a SUP bully armed with a weapon I have seen guys get HIT head over the head with a paddle

  • i have been nailed by sup and almost by a kayak. They dont belong on the lineup where the real surfers and bodyboarders are. Surfing Queens is suicidal with the amount of kook sups ot there with the exception of the Hawaiians. Heck I can barley make a stand up ride on a 10'6. but I know my place, give respect, stay outside and get along with the locals EVERYWHERE. Same with the shark biscuit, I rip on the beach breaks leaving the other breaks to the good surfers who have earned the right

  • I have no problem with whatever board or thing you choose to ride in the water... and yes, it is the rider not the equipment who hog waves, but SUP riders tend to be wave hogs more often than not because of the ability of the board. I'm not saying that regulation of these boards is the right thing to do, but SUP riders really need to learn how to share like others. Those of you SUP riders that do share, thank you, I respect you. There are a lot of beginners who do SUP and do not share.

  • This is honestly the lamest thing I have ever seen. Any shops dumb enough to buy this video, they are wasting their money; it will not sell one copy. Laird loves his SUP boards to much to see what is going on in the world around him. The Stand Up Paddlers are the bullies of this so called "Playground". All they do is hurt people and cause problems in the line up. I have personally been ran over several times at surf spots where SUPs should not be allowed, I'm happy they are now being ticketed

  • I totally agree with Laird.Everyone should share the ocean and have fun while doing. If you can't have fun with the ocean and everyone in it, then you shouldn't be in the ocean.

  • What is a "prone" surfer? Do you mean boogie boarder? I don't know anyone who surfs laying down on their board.

  • Here's the problem with SUP's. First off they are dangerous. Sure any surfboard is dangerous, but SUP's are much heavier than even a longboard and they are much more uncontrollable. Even talented riders have to bail there boards sometimes. Second is the fact that they can dominate a given lineup. Some SUPers are respectful sure, but throw in 3 to 4 at your given spot and they will make it hard for prone paddlers to catch waves. They will take the best waves because of their advantage.

  • Its about the person not the board .

People in general are a-holes when it comes to surfing. I get snaked and "dropped in" on everywhere I go and more often by another surfer.

On the other hand I love it when fellow surfers shout "go" when its my wave ;-).

  • I can imagine what it would be like to be 'invaded' at the beach by a guy/gal with a paddle and a slightly longer board....but that is just it...they only have a paddle??? Sounds like prejudice to me. Manners is what is going to matter here, nothing else. Besides...I think there's a new kid on the block, and 'he's' here to stay.

  • SUP surfing is the newest thing. As Pezman says, there is jealousy. Anyone who doesn't want to move on and progress should just find somewhere else to surf. Sooner or later, the powers that be will realize that the controversy is just about esthetic differences, which shouldn't be legislated or regulated. First the longboarders were the dirty guys, now SUPers. Laird is right: "You can't tell people how to play at the playground." Blame Laird, and get out of the way.

  • @slowtoast Riding a longer board that is incredibly difficult to manuever is progression...? Stand Up Paddlers should be happy that they have their own designated areas, I feel that these areas would be a lot more calming and relaxing to "play" in as you say

  • paddle boarders are all over malibu now it gets annoying sometimes, only when they snake u and catch every thing

  • ya zane!
