  • I love how low Gerard Butler's shirt is :o

  • In this song you can see how powerful ALL of their voices are, but mostly Gerard Butler's. Also in this song you also see how soft Patrick Wilson's and Emmy Rossum's voices are. Also what Mozart realized when a bunch of people talk together it's just NOISE. But when you take a bunch of SINGERS and they SING together it's MUSIC. I believe in that as well. I mean, imagine a bunch of people SAYING this, it would be just noise. But THIS is music.

  • Wish The Phantom killed Roel . This is the most annoying portrayal of Roel ever . Wish the Phantom strung him up the stupid annyoing man . Kill Roel .

  • I love when the Phantom growls as he sings <3

  • I love 3:39- 3:56 Poor Erik!!!!

  • 5.39 come at me bro

  • There is one thing with this movie that I don't like, (except for that she picks Raoul..)And that's how the Phantom's hair turns all grey´/blond when she removes his mask! I liked his black hair...

  • @Welomia626

I know why did it turn she just takes off his mask

  • 6:45

  • music at 1:30, and 6:49 is epic

    Webber is Epic.

  • @PhantomFan1a she sings: "Why do you curse mercy?"

  • someone PLEASE tell me!! why "keep your hand at the level of your eye"???

and the Phantom is still incredibley sexy (with and without the mask) XD

  • @canadaluv29 i'll tell you. i didnt get it either at first i read "the phantom" by susan kay. in the book. the phantom is known for using a deadly whip and is VERY sneaky. While down in his tunnels he could attack at any moment! if he were to attack you he could wrap his whip around your neck and kill you easily. to stop this hold your hand up so that if he tried that one you you could hold the whip away or at least keep him from killing you. Raoul didn't follow instructions lol.

  • @canadaluv29 its to stop the noose from being put around his neck

  • @canadaluv29 Since the Phantom's weapon is a noose, if you keep your hand at the level of your eye you still have space to breathe even when the Phantom loops the noose around your neck.

  • @canadaluv29 i didnt get it either but when u keep ur hand at ur eyes then the noose cant tighten around ur neck

  • ughh i wish someone wold understand me...... this is music......... justin bieber is...... well..... CRAP!!....... I'm 12 a 7th grader and they think I'm weird and wats-so-ever.. i feel totally alone my passion for this music is my life....... why? WHY?

  • A thing I find interesting, but the bit where Raoul is spitting at the ghost while singing "Why make her lie to you to save me" seems to have been originated with one of the european productions (basically a lot of European productions of the phantom think it's more interesting if he's more of a presence)

  • I mourn for the phantom here cause this is the only thing he has ever known is life is violence. He thinks its the only way to have a happy ending. This is the only part of the movie where i actually like raoul "Dont throw you life away for my sake" hits you hard each time even if you are a phantom fan

  • I hated Raoul throughout this ENTIRE movie! Everyone thinks he's just so awesome, well it wasn't called "Phantom of the Opera" for nothing, now was it?

  • @smhg117 Similarly, it's called Dracula because Dracula is the hero, oh wait no. He crashed a fucking chandelier on a crowd of people including the opera company that has been her only real family since her father is dead, destroyed her home, and that after lying and passing himself off as her father's ghost. On top of that he's written as a typical abusive partner. Like Leroux, I pity the tragic character, but his increasingly violent reactions to everything only make things worse for him.

  • 1:08 That was as far as you dared go, because your SIXTH SENSE told you that there was a hole in the ground 60 feet away? I don't think so, honey. YOU KNEW ABOUT IT AND YOU WANTED RAOUL TO DIE! YOU GO GIRL!

  • is it me or does Christine looks disappointed when the Phantom tells her that what disfigured his face has also denied him the joys of the flesh? :)

  • @rxantos

i think what he means is he cant get a girl with that faace, as in people are repulsed by it and dont wanna be close to him, not that his "family jewels" are damaged

  • "Wait! I think my dear, We have a guest!"

  • i thnk the phantom has some anger issues

  • "your lover makes a pashonate plead" " hes raoulatosis " hahaha

  • @Betsylt2 Sorry to be a nerd, but it's "Your lover makes a passionate plea." and "Please, Raoul, it's useless."

  • why is raoul still wearing his bloody shirt???

  • I kinda-almost-drowned-and-he-had-to-let-me-in-the-gate to free yooou!

  • DROWN, RAOUL! DROWN!

  • @RaySingh87 I was screaming that for the whole scene xD

  • Ugh... Phantom why are you so sexy? And why they hell didn't you kill Raoul!?

  • To be honest, I don't think I would've ever gotten to this point if I were Christine because I would've completely fallen for the Phantom when he took me to his lair and sang his song. Even though he did many bad things, I pity him so. His past was horrible and so were the people in it, which defined himself completely. He only acted out how he was treated. Poor guy. :(

  • Raoul- 2:02=Weakling.

  • 7:12 love it when it gets to dat bit its like whats it gunna be CRISTEEN DEAF OR DRAT

  • i love the movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • at 1:04 it seems as if he uses singing to help him remember things lol

  • @chadnkrisie do u mean 0:4

  • @niki91210 i'm talking about when the lady says keep your hand at the level of your eye and then he repeats, wutev :P

  • Phantom might be a phsyco, but he is HOT!

  • @PhsycedelicPhish i know i love Gerry though!! haha

  • I know hard core phantom fans will disagree with me but I have the CD of the phantom of the opera sung with Michael Crawford and I love him singing but I like this better he has so much more emotion than what I heard on the CD not every song just the very end

  • @fae430 OMG ive gotta agree ive been thinking that for 6 years now

  • Watch 1:30 over and over again x) hilarious!!

  • @Wav3rer

the noise Raoul makes is soooo funny at 1:29

  • omg WHY IS SHE JUST STANDING THERE!?!?

  • @BrokenButterflyBulet i know right id be running and fighting the phantom if it was real life but rouls ugly anyways

  • It's so anticlimatic that the deformity isnt THAT severe. Almost disappointing. In some shots, I hardly notice it, except the hair.

  • @JekyllsFacade as I heard, it's partially Gerard's fault that the makeup wasn't that great. The poor boys got more sensory issues than I do, and he couldn't stand the makeup. And also, some of the other creations they had didn't fit under the mask, and they wanted the makeup under the mask the whole time to make sure that if something happened, it would be... fluid throughout the movie.

*facepalm* I hope I made sense there.

  • @TakeItToTheMax5 No, that makes sence. I once knew a guy who had an allergic reaction from his stage makeup. Luckily it didnt go bad until AFTER closing night. And yes, they had to keep continuity. Couldnt have the disfigurement larger than the mask.

  • Though the deformity is a bit of a disappointment, Gerard did a fantastic job with this scene, as well as Patrick Wilson.

Even Phangirls have to admit when he says, "I fought so hard to free you," it's utterly heartbreaking.

  • "Met with hatred everywhere/No kind words from anyone/No compassion anywhere". I know how he must feel. And the sad thing is you don't have to be diformed or a murderer for that to happen...

  • Raoul: Meeting the phantom.. better undress half of my top garnment.

  • I think it's funny when he Raul puts his hand up cause it looks lke he is going to play basketball.

  • Personally, if Erick had been just like Gerard Butler, even without the mask, I would totally be with him =D

  • Gosh, Gerard's so good.

  • "I fought so hard to free you..." -- Poor Raoul! I love this part.

  • @LaFe1992

that part is pretty cool but the thing is he didn't fight that hard. He took a swim, ran some stairs, and screwed up the other ladies instructions.

  • @Kyo10001 I think Raoul is referring to his efforts throughout the story to keep Christine from the Phantom. Not necessarily his going after them into the Phantom's lair.

  • Team Phantom <3

If Christine doesn't want him, i'll take him! :)

  • The play was based on the original book by Leroux. But they Andrew Loyd Webber took some parts from other versions of it as well. In the original book Christine only gave him a simple kiss on the forehead, but some other version has her passionately kissing him. So for reading I suggest the original book just cuz its the source, and another one called Phantom by Susan Kaye, which has more romance and such, and a better ending in my opinion.

  • @lemlia I agree totally!!! I have read Kay's Phantom and i love it! I prefer this version, it's more romantic and explains everything about Erik's life.

  • ABHORRENT FACE?!?! ='( It is so sad.

  • 6:49 - 8:05 is always my favorite part of this song and one of my favorite parts of POTO. The overlay of the 3 songs just sounds so beautiful. Every time I've heard it, movie or play, I'm simply awestruck by how powerful it is. Love this!

  • have to admit, the guy who plays Raoul has a really good voice

  • @unnatural6edq I love him <3

  • @unnatural6edq That would be Patrick Wilson, I'm pretty sure he played Raoul on Broadway also. He has a very nice face, and he is actually quite handsome (without the wig).

  • Thank you sooo much 4 postin this!!!!! i love the phantom!!!!!!!! he so f***in sexy!! x

  • melting........melting.........IM IN LOVE!

  • 7:31-7:50 EARGASM

  • aww hes so loely i so many ways...i wouldve chose him...the phantom of thee opera :)

  • @TheRealDemiFan101 He IS lovely...He just needs some cuddles and kisses, and someone to care for him....Because no one ever has. :)

  • 6:29 - 6:43 best part!!!!!!

The tears I might have shed for your dark fate grow cold and turn to tears of hate!!!

  • @MultiLela2010 They showed the event. Erik was a child at the time.

  • @MultiLela2010 That's exactly what I was thinking! After she explained the story I did the math and I immediately said, "EEEEWWWW!!!" 'Cause I think Christine is supposed to be at least seventeen. o.O But hey, if it's Gerard Butler . . . he can materialize behind my mirror anytime. And if he sang, "I am your angel, come to me angel of music" I would go without a second glance. (Haha two song references: Angel of Music [The Mirror] and Past the Point of No Return.)

  • gerard butler > patrick wilson in so many ways

  • does anyone want to tell me why she randomly decided to uncover the the mirror?

  • To me Phantom of the opera is like another version of Beauty and the Beast but in the ending it looks like Belle leaves him for Gaston. I love the message in this movie always been a favorite musical of mine! ;) i wouldn't care if he was ugly at least he has a heart unlike Raoul -____-

  • @Togepi223 That's the Disney way. Of course, no one really ever has an ORIGINAL idea themselves anymore.

  • Yeah, that's right Christine. Just hang back there. No no no, don't worry about Raoul getting strangled. You just stand there and look pretty, no need to try to stop it.

  • @MrsJosephMerrick, & @smellydee, either of you geeks er, I mean phans, lol, know why Joel didn't call the Phantom Erik? Is it because they use it in the stage version?

I wish there was a Gerry version of "geek" like Glee has "gleek." No offense at all!!!! I'm such a POTO geek. :)

  • @JolSummerville I certainly dont know why they never mention the real name of our dear Phantom - in the film, or the stage version!!!And ''we dont like it''! His name should deffo be said!! Also, it would make him a person, not just referred to as the Phantom! If I ever meet ALW I will certainly ask him this very niggling question! :)

Other versions of the story do....

  • @MrsJosephMerrick Thanks ma friend!!!!

  • @MrsJosephMerrick I think they say it in the book.

  • @Yazzyd305 Yes, I heard there was a book that ''went'' with the film called Phantoms companion or something??????????Perhaps thats where you mean. But I havent read it myself. If I ever see it I would be be very interested......

  • Raoul. as much as i hate you, i think its cool that you can sing while being lynched

and BTW you did NOT try hard to "free Christine" all you did was piss off Erik

  • He really isn't that ugly.

  • @picatsoforfma No, of course not. HIs poor face just looks sad to me, and in desparate need of many kisses!!!:)

  • 5:54

    ...Hiccup?

  • @countrypanda94 No gasp.

  • I love this song. I sag it during math class and got a demerit

  • I wish they kept the "torture chamber" and The Persian scene in this, thought that was more touching..oh well this is good too! I LOVE YOU PHANTOM!!!

  • @101Witch101 In a way, they do keep the torture chamber, but it's only for a little bit at the end of the Masquerade scene. Also, Madame Giry seems to fill the role of the Persian somewhat.

  • they try to justify Raoul and Christine but they can never make us believe that phantom is the villain. Christine in this film betrays him and go back with that boring guy!!

  • @holehole Because Erik isn't the true villain. Society is the real villain because society made Erik what he is.

  • @dlausactor6373 Yes, absolutely! He had to become the Phantom to keep himself safe, to make people afraid of him so he wouldnt be hurt by people anymore...But he cant understand the world either, trapped in his isolated world of his own creativity. Like a child- yet with a feelings and needs of a man- he reaches out (to Christine) for the love hes never been shown...but she doesnt love him as he believes and deserves.

  • @MrsJosephMerrick hey, dun be too upset and you will make me worry about you :)

  • @boywithalobster Trying not to be upset*sniff* but I cant help it *sniff sniff* thinking of him all alone *howl*. He wouldnt alone with me, Id give him kisses whenever he asked, and give him cuddles...Then sleep in his strong arms as he tenderly sings to me...*sigh*

  • sorry erik lovers, raoul is why better

  • @debbielewis29 um... have you even read the book? bc if you had you probably wouldn't be saying this. If you only saw the movie, well than i can understand that bc in the movie raoul is actually a decent guy but in the books =P!!! he is a pansy who never works for anything in his life, makes Chrsitine free him while he is in a mirror room doing pretty much nothing! he makes christine preform don juan even tho she DIDNT want to just so he could find erik and is pretty much horrible(in the book)

  • @ItalianGirl903 i actually had no idea there was a book. ill check it out. but since then, i have switched over to the phantom :)

  • i hav 2 teach this sing 2 my crazy friends who r fighting over a mask

  • hey can any one tell me some reasons i may think the phantom is hot even when he takes his mask off?

  • @margaretsalvatore Well, I can think of one...Gerard Butler...

You see, it doesnt matter, even when hes made up a bit nasty, hes still sexy and attractive. Its simply IMPOSSIBLE to ''uglify'' him....

    What can you do?

    :)

  • @MrsJosephMerrick get better makeup on him for a start xD eric isnt meant to have a nose. this erik looks like hes had sunburn!

still he has a FAB body. what girl wouldnt want a sweet man with a great voice and a sexy ass? so he killed a few people, meh xD

  • @smellydee Yes, I do agree the makeup was lacking - but dont blame Gerry for that! Shumacher didnt want a horror film - more a tragic love story I suppose...

But personally, just as so many Phans love Erik on stage, I dont think it would have made any diff if Gerry was madeup more ''Eriky'' , I think we'd all be crying for him, &loving him - &Gerry's inherent sexiness shines through whatever he does. And I think it would have made the film ever more heartwrenching....

    ''Poor Erik!'' *tears*

  • @MrsJosephMerrick gerard was very good in his role, but i must admit his singing brought it down a bit for me :( still he gave a good performance as erik :)

  • @smellydee I dont like the arguements of comparing Gerrys singing to stage Phantoms - in my opinion, he sang as he felt the part should be sung(and as ALW also envisaged), in his own way, and its clear he put his whole soul into the part. Infact, I think the rawness of his voice conveys the tormented heart of our poor Phantom just as much, if not better, than those with a trained voice.

And of course he gave a wonderful performance! :)

  • @MrsJosephMerrick he certainly captured the essence of erik and gave a great performance. i dont blame them for casting him. but hes definately more of an actor than a singer. and to me erik NEEDS a beautiful voice. for example have you seen the 1990 made for tv version? the guy in that sung like an angel. if only there was a way to transplant his voice into gerard's body, he would be erik in the flesh! still gerard was the first phantom iv seen so he holds a spot in my heart :)

  • @smellydee Yes, of course I do agree, Gerry IS an actor first....I know the 1990 POTO youre talking about, but Charles Dance (who played Erik) didnt sing himself...but I do love that scene close to the end when he and C are singing together, very romantic! And the voices are VERY good. Its def one of the better versions, and Erik there is suave charming and witty...

  • @MrsJosephMerrick and so sweet and protective and romantic!

  • @smellydee ...Oh yes, all the best Erik's are protective, caring and romantic!:)

I also like the part when shes getting ready for the bistro, and hes watching her very carefully...and also when she hugs him - hes in total shock! So sweet! And of course when hes singing her to sleep...ummm....

  • @MrsJosephMerrick yeahh and the bit where hes talking about her and he says "she only loved me for a moment but a moment like that is worth living for"

    *geeks out*

  • @smellydee ummm...Well I feel uncomfortable about that.Poor Erik really believed that in moment she might love him as a man (ie not the love shes thinking, friendship). And its the same with all Christines - they lead him on, even if they dont mean to....It just makes me want to hug him all up - poor misguided Erik! Its so sad! I mean, its not because CHristine sees his face, she didnt love him EVER in the way he so DESERVES!!!!!!

  • @smellydee ...Sorry, getting excited....But the nice part in this version is that he has a far memory that his mother loved and kissed him......:)

  • At 5:15 he may look like a fat in a candy factory but think about his rivil in love just came into his home he is basicly happy that he has a chance to kill him

  • im sure with some makeup and some plastic surgery, the phantom could be transformed into a good lookin guy. lol

  • @hilary111 Excuse me. I think youre missing the point...And many of us think Erik looks attractive with or without the mask...It just doesnt matter.....Of course, I do admit, it does help when its Gerard Butler playing the Phantom......:)

  • Dear Raoul,

You run down a million flights of stairs, almost get squashed like a bug and drowned, make your way through disgusting sewage, to start singing? I thought you were trying to FREE her.

LOL and whats with erik's face at 5:15 He looks like a fat kid who just walked into a chocolate factory.

  • ~THIS IS THE COICE! THIS IS THE POINT OF NO RETURN!!~

  • I feel so bad for him :( Raul seems like an ass anyways, Christine should be with Erik! His life has been so terrible, at least have some sympathy :(

  • Watching this scene, it occurs to me that by this point in the movie, I was never actually pay attention anymore... *coughssheepishly*

  • Emmy Rossum is such an accomplished singer, even at such a young age as she is. This is definitely her masterpiece :) And who knew Gerard Butler had this voice hidden inside him?!

  • I Think The Fact That The Prince In Shining Armour Is Still Able To Singing Perfectly While Being Strangled Is An Extremely Gifted Thing To Have. I'll Have To Get Practicing. Alright Sister, Get The Rope!!!

  • I think many people have completely forgotten how to truly love one another, and it makes me sad. :(

  • lol you guys; are hella nerdin on erik . i love it.

  • "the world showed no compassion to me"

  • 6:50 is my fav part!!!!!!

  • The Englund Phantom is cooler.

  • It's so tuching when she sing "angel of music"... *snif, sob*

  • Oh, come one people... We all love Erik, but don't go on about saying how your love will cure the broken heart of a fictional character.

  • @iluvugaara We are grown up women who love to enjoy ourselves and get away from our problems talking about Erik in this way. We may make ''jokes'', but are also sincere...Dont be so serious!! Also, have a bit of imagination and some romance in your heart...Every womam has to have a fantasy man...the Phantoms def mine...:)

  • @MrsJosephMerrick You are right! We just escape from the routine and the reality!

I wish i had an angel of music or whatever to protect me and take care of me!!!!

  • @eugenie1967 Yes of course! I really WISH! Some lovely man who'd care for me and think of me and cheer me up and understand me when Im feeling sad or in a horrible mood about something! I REALLY DO!!!! A guardian angel, but also a man to hold me with tender love and affection...and protect me from all harm....

  • @MrsJosephMerrick .....all of these and also he would never forget anniversaries and he 'd never going with other women.....

  • @eugenie1967 Of course! There is only one woman for Erik! He would be faithful and loving forever! Hes never known a bit of love in his whole life, and in his heart there is so much love to give as a consequence of it - because he knows that pain so well. He'd only want to make you happy, and he would be so thoughtful and sweet husband - while VERY passionate!!!

  • @MrsJosephMerrick I am sure of that!!! If only could be true.....

  • @eugenie1967 Oh, yes...I wish...Perhaps if I turn down my lights and close my eyes...then open them to find myself in his beautiful house, and hear his voice...And then to see him approaching me with a rose in his hand and a wonderful smile...And how quickly I would be kissing him and telling him I would stay with him forever, even as he blows out the candles so he can love me....:)

  • @MrsJosephMerrick Nice and so romantic but it's difficult to wake up after....

  • @eugenie1967 Yes....I wouldnt want to wake up...to the normal boring and ugly world. Just to be with him.....

  • @MrsJosephMerrick Of course! All of us would wish " to be endless" and true....

  • @eugenie1967 ...Yes...Only to wakeup to be beside dearest Erik, and give him nice wakeup kiss. He'd be so happy, all the day ahead of him - no longer alone! After a breakfast -Id make sure he ate well, because he never did on his own I think - Id sit with him while he plays his organ, and tell him how wonderful his music is, and how beautiful is his smile....And how happy I would be because I would know it was me who made him smile, and I would press my face against his, full of joy for him...

  • @MrsJosephMerrick You would make him very happy!!! Maybe the happiest man on earth!!! He would never be "Poor Phantom"..... but "Lucky Erik"........

  • @eugenie1967 You made me smile a big smile when I read that! And I really wish it for Erik! He deserves to be happy! I wouldnt do it just for him though, for myself too! Erik is so nice and warm and snuggly, he'd make me feel so safe. I wish I could fall asleep in his arms everynight, his dear face pressed to mine, hearing him sing softly to me until I drift off into lovely dreams of his eternal love...sigh....

  • @MrsJosephMerrick Your description is soooo nice and vivid!!!! I wish could happen to you and to me!!!! It's soooo romantic!!!!!!

  • from when erik says: you've passed the point of no return to the end i get chill bumps everytime! magical. :) fav musical ever

  • no offense but Raoul is kind of a little bitch in this part. He barely fought back when the phantom tied him up. I can't help but laugh whenever I see it...

  • @albertarose23 King Leonidas of Sparta is tying you up, it's probably best not to resist too much. :P

  • @albertarose23 lol he couldn't it was in the script for him to be tied. hahahahaha

  • I like the Phantom more than Raoul. The Phantom really is a good person. He has just been told he is a monster so much, he became one. I think that's why he kills people. He feels entitled to. He really is a beautiful person.

  • @MrsFlapjackDepp Absolutely agree with you. Well said...He has to act the ''evil Phantom'' to keep himself safe, because hes so afraid all the time of being hunted out and hurt again...He really has a sensitive and tormented heart. He deserves love.......and kindness too.

  • @MrsJosephMerrick You are so right! Poor Erik, how much he suffered in his life!

  • @eugenie1967 He wasnt born with evil in his heart.People made him like he is because they thought he wasnt a normal person, and capable of feelings and hurt and love......He never had a childhood because of how he looked...He needs a LOT OF LOVE to make up for all the bad and sad things, and to make him forget his poor face...:)

  • @MrsJosephMerrick Terrible!!! Even his own mother didn't ever love him!!! She didn't want to see his face and she put him a mask!!! She never kissed him! She never gave him a hug! Simple things that we enjoy many times of day, everyday!!!

  • @eugenie1967

He only had one present his entire life, and that was the mask his mother made for him....So sad....

I want to give Erik lots of love and kisses. He would never have to wear a mask in front of me, because I would think his face is beautiful....

  • @MrsJosephMerrick You are right!!!

  • @eugenie1967 i agree, so many people take their parents 4 granet, like dont want their parents 2 hug em n poblic, but he never had parents, hes mother was scared of him and hated him, so they gave thim 2 the gypsies!!

  • @eugenie1967 who is erik? is that the phantom's real name

  • @DBZrocksmyhouse Yes, it's the phantom's name.

  • He's not best Phantom though. Michael Crawford is best Phantom. Gerard Butler is third. Howard McGillin is second.

Emmy Rossum and Patrick Wilson are best Christine and Raoul ever. Way better than Sarah Brightman and Steve Barton.

Patrick Wilson should do Miss Saigon as Chris. Especially the movie they are making.

  • Who wouldn't choose Erik, being interpreted by Gerad Butler? :3

  • @EvilRaccoon666

I agree with you! In this film at least I really dont understand Christines character...Surely she must have understood how hurt he was because of how he has been treated, and how he feels about himself because of how he looks? You cant treat someone like that if you truly sympathise with them, especially if you know they love you so passionately...Poor Erik. I understand....I'll kiss you, I'll show you how much I care and love you..:):):)
