  • How can you check the number of cycles and what do they mean?

  • @politicszbitch

Go to the apple icon on the top left, click "About This Mac", click on "More Info" and the number of cycles show on "Hardware" > "Power"

  • @politicszbitch You can also see it done on the video called "How Long Will Your Mac Battery Last? - Tekzilla Daily Tip" - sorry, it won't let me post the link

  • I love how a 2,000 dollar Mac needs to be calibrated and a 300 dollar Toshiba does not. But hey, what can you do?

  • Thank you so much for your simple instructions!

  • i have 507 cycles on my late 08' macbook pro (non-unibody) and i downloaded coconut battery and these were the results... Current charge: -1 mAh Maximum charge: -1 mAh Battery capacity: -1 mAh Design capacity: 5600 mAh Details: Mac model: MacBookPro4,1 Age of your mac: 42 months Battery load cycles: 507 Battery temperature: 30.0 degrees C Battery power usage: 0.0 Watt I'm desperate, i don't want to buy a new battery, what do you advise. PLEASE HELP ME!!!
  • i have like 1000+ cycles ... and it started having less charge right after i installed osx lion .. so stupid

  • I just bought a new macbook. So my question is do I do this process once a month? Also how many times in a day to you charge your computer back up? Is it good to keep your macbook on all day, or should I turn it off when I am not using it?

  • this is a LIE I tried doing this after owning my MacBook after four months ,now it wont even reach 100% it stays at only 99%....DON'T TRY THIS if you not sure

  • @MOFUZION - Mine sometimes only goes upto 99% but then other times it goes upto 100%. Why - I don't know.

  • no shit...

  • Thanks, now I am going to calibrate my iBook g3's battery

  • I got 32...is that good? Cause Im getting so pissed cause I had 66% battery life and 2 hours remaining a couple of minutes ago...while ONLY running Safari. But I managed to fix it: If you have a problem like this just go buy an app called "Disk Diet" and install. It should clear about 20 mb or more...If the problem still exists..try emptying you're trash. I had over 2gb in their when I had two hours left, but after emptying those gbs, it boosted up to 5 hours !!!

  • After the battery drains and I wait 5 hours, I have to fully recharged but can I use it while it charges or I just leave there connected until fully charged?

  • You have to wait five hours after it drains. Then recharge it

  • i have a Macbook mid 2008 and its has 1732 cycles and 78% health is it okay ?...

  • @humandaka21 very but when it gets to about 20-30 % u should chang it. :)

  • @themacexpert Okay when I let the battery rest for 2 hours do I keep it plugged in ????

  • as im watching this video, my macbook is on 1% lol, trying to calibrate this thing!

  • my macbookpro is not stuck at 99% of the battery charge :) weird

can u tell me whats happening

  • Great video, thank you for posting this - an automatic favorite. This will definitely come in handy when I get my MacBook Pro. Right now, I have a Dell 1545 that crashes at least once a month. Apparently, the world knows I want that mac so bad and is obviously trying to help me achieve it.

Again, thank you for posting this. I really appreciate it :)

  • how will i know if my macbook is succesfully calibrated i went to my battery imformation and check the cyclecount..cyclecount is 3 is that good or bad?

  • Thans, great video. One question though. The instructions that came with my battery stated that I was to drain the battery first (it came charged to 82%) before charging it to full capacity and repeating the steps you've stated. I followed those instructions. Does this make a difference that I drained it first? Thanks.

  • @themacexpert i did this & now my mac is fully charged but its says "99%"???

  • My mac doesn't go to sleep mode when battery is empty. It just dies and has to be restarted. Do I have a problem? Or is this normal. I have the original white macbook 2009 version if that helps.

  • I've got 224 cycles and my battery health is "check battery"

  • Sounds like Alfonse from Fullmetal Alchemist

  • Hi, I bough a MacBook pro 13 on last month an my battery life is to short I dont now why! You can hep me please! thanks

  • i Have until 400 or 500 + Charges Till my Battery drops right ?

  • Don't you have to wait 5 hours or something after the battery dies?

  • @willraz To be absolutely certain, you can, but it makes the whole process take a long time

  • @themacexpert Well either you follow Apple's instructions or you don't. They clearly state you have to wait at least 5 hours after the computer has shut itself down. That's to make sure you fully drain the battery... Why bother following the first steps if you're not going to pull it through?

  • @themacexpert Apple's Website clearly states you have to let it run on sleep 5 hours after it has shut itself down. There is a reason for that, it's to fully drain the battery. Why bother doing this at all if you're only going to follow half the instructions?

  • Dont you have to let the macbook sleep for 5 hours before charging it again?

  • @808lazyboy Yes the instruction at Apple Support tells to let the macbook sleep for 5+ hours before pluging in the battery.

  • i have 196 cycles, is that a good or a bad thing?

  • i have 196 cycles, is that a good or a bad thing?

  • @shyamwow81 That's not too bad. Once you get into the 400 or 500 + cycles range, you might lose some battery charge.

  • @themacexpert oh really ? calibrate after getting macbook pro ? oh no , i didnt know that before , just now . what should i do ? would that make my macBP battery bad ?

  • @themacexpert so then don't do it till the battery is finished do it till it's 15%

  • @themacexpert I Have 256 Is That Becoming Bad or still Okay?

  • @themacexpert im on 312 cycles, starting to lose some power now. im gonna get a new 1, but i wanted to know....is there a better 'unofficial' battery, that has more power/life??

  • @shyamwow81 what do u mean by cycles ? what does it have to do with mac ?

  • I just got this mcbook pro, it is ok to do this now?

  • My MacBook air tell me too replace soon on the battery icon what do i do.

  • You take it to an Apple store and hand it in for a battery replacement.

  • help me please i've already used my macbook n it says that it can last up to 7 hours but everytym i use it it only use like 3 hours or so help please!

  • How many cycles do you have on a battery? istat or coconut battery will tell you.

  • i really don't know! if it helps i have the latest macbook... thnnx for replying

  • I have 554 cycles, will this vid fix that?

  • I have the exact same problem have you been able to solve it?

  • @kathen111 Also make sure you're not running your display on maximum brightness. 7 hours is an estimate. Heavy work load will lower your battery as well.

  • Reminder as other comments mention: once the battery has died, you MUST keep MBP in sleep mode for at least 5 before charging up again!

  • but i calibrated mine and it gave me less battery and i have a macbook pro 13 inch

  • Calibrating makes the battery more accurate, it doesnt give you more power.

  • o ok the macbook pro is the new one. Apple says that it could give me 7 hours at least but the most that i gotten is 5 30 hours. Is there something wrong?

  • Nothings wrong. & hours is the maximum you could get with most setting turned off and display brightness down. Also, not watching many videos. 7 hours is only possible if your doing more of less nothing.

  • was this shot on the webbie

  • yes

  • is it good to use your macbook while charging?

  • you should keep the magsafe in at all time (when you can) because of the new "intergraded" battery that has 1000 recharges only, so if you have it plugged inn at all time, you will have it last longer before you will have to go to the apple store and replace it :P

  • Hi, How are you supposed to use the battery normally?..Do you have to charge it full and disconnect the adapter and use it till a sign appear that the charge is low and connecting the adapter again? or Do you have to use the adapter connected most of the time, in that case do you have to remove the battery?..

  • Bad video, you forgot to say keep it on sleep for 6 hours

  • remember you have to leave it in permanent sleep mode for 5 hours or more before you recharge the battery fully!!!

  • i was just going to ask how long to leave it in sleep mode, he left out that part. thanx

  • I've tried calibrating mine. I have questions. Am I allowed to let it sit for 2 hours unplugged after its done charging fully? and I let my macbook battery die and let it sleep for 5-6 hours or more and the battery checker on the side shows one green circle blinking. Is that an OK sign to now plug in the charger?

  • Great Video

  • Great advice! I do this regularly with my iBook!

  • is it really worth it, cuz i asked an apple expert and they said you dont calibrate the new macbook pros, only the old maacs and ibooks.

  • No, Calibrating on Macs all the way from the late 08' MacBooks and MacBook Pros are not necessary. Battery technology is becoming more and more advanced, and because of this Calibrating is no longer a necessary step to a healthy portable.

  • yeah that's why they mention to calibrate it even for the new macbook pro 2009's on the apple website

  • u so copied jon4lakers

    outro

    but watever

    good video

  • Hey,

He has gotta start somewhere, there are more than lots of these on youtube so how can he be copying?

    Great Video

  • thanx man
