The amazing thing about this wonderful song is that IMO it sounds amazing as acoustic and as it is on the album with all of the many assorted instruments. Alanis is unbeatable. Period. -Sidenote: Please watch JARS on my channel!
I read she made this song refering to taylor hawkins, who played drum with her (now with foo f.) and suposely had a relationship.. do u think its true?
This would be a difficult song to play live and sound like the album. I have seen Alanis 7 times in concert hopeing to see "Front Row" and "The Couch" live. Never heard Front Row but she did sing The Couch at Ridgefield WA.
It's actually a sort of "background verse" she sings during the chorus. It's kind of difficult to hear during the actual song, but there are 4 of them all together (one for each time she sings the chorus). Very cool to listen to :)
1st chorus: I'm too tired to recount unpleasantries one by one one minute I want to banish you the next I want to be on a deserted island with you along with my three favorite CDs ambivalent yet in your bed we've yet to acknowledge what really happened. 2nd chorus: I laughed until my lungs hurt I love how you bust my chops you don't always feel seen sometimes you feel erasable unfortunately I cannot reciprocate in my current state I think we should be careful of how much time we spend together.
3rd chorus: You never meant to be ungrateful nor held up to be whipped or wept for certainly not analysed prodded at more ways than one apparently you've been misrepresented dealing with the concept of arrows being slung towards your outrageous fortune. 4th chorus: Oh the things that I've done for you many a stitch a friend a man's been left for you oh the books I've read for you the tongues I've bitten for you many a new city for you many a risk taken for you (not a single regret).
very beautifully sung... the key is raised one whole step key higher than the original, so she sings with falsetto in the choruses.. well it actually sounds awesome in acoustic version.
I'm proud this version took place in brazil. perfection.

I would love for her to do this on a live acoustic cd ( somewhat close to her unplugged album ) it would be cool to call it Songs Swept Under The Rug

That lyrical flourish at the end is almost indecipherable for a moment, I dodn't remember it being part of the original, was it?
