Brand X is a treasure to educate yourself in a well defined very experimental concept of progressive jazz-rock fusion. But someone must hear carefully to understand the concept of the band.
This is a piece so epic that they named a disease after it, also called "Nuclear Burn." This fatal condition strikes hundreds of drummers each year, causing their bodies to spontaneously combust out of trauma from attempting to play the song. Phil Collins nearly died 4 times and had his forearms ignite twice.
Such unbelievably excellent bass playing on this. Percy Jones is one of those guys who learned well from the whole school of Pastorius, then took the technique far beyond it, in my opinion. Both his precision and his imagination are at the top of the field.
@OrchestrationOnline I think there are many who are actually better than Pastorius or let's say Hendrix. But still, IMO they're the greatest since they were pioneers, not 'just' musicians.
Unbelievable that phil collins could play drums that way. i saw video of him playing "In the Cage" Genesis at Rome he looked like he was gonna pass out .its a good thing he recorded this or no one wolud believe he was the worlds best drummer at the time.
The guy laughed at me when I told him there were some that felt Bill Bruford was an inadequate touring replacement for Phil Collins. Here's your proof...
this is for all the people that think Phil is only "No Jacket....."

It would be interesting to know how many beats per second he averaged on this song. I would imagine it's a record in and of itself. I would guess 10+

More, please.

Sad thing is, his legacy is more about drivel like "Sussudio" than his amazing world-class drummer chops that he's had for 40+ years
