@Doommage33 It would be cool to take a few stories out of the Silmarillion but they won't because The Silmarillion didn't get great reviews and the beginning is nothing but The Bible. Plus I don't want them to mess up my vision of Morgoth and other characters. What I would like to see is the entirety of that war where the Ring is cut from Sauron's hand. Now that would be a great movie. That small scene at the beginning of the Fellowship is awesome.

The books are awesome. I read the Lord of the Rings. Reading the books just aren't the same though. You can't dress as a knight of Gondor and stay up all night with your family and friends chatting excitedly as you wait for the next installment of the trilogy to come out to the public. You can't spend days talking about the book after reading it for the first time. As amazing as the books are, nothing can replace the memories of the movie series.

@sford605 After reading the books you should read the Silmarillion and The Children of Hurin.If you want to get deeper discussion go to the original sources:Beowulf, The Saga of the Volsungs, and Kalevala, and Early Old English Poems.There you will find the original "One Ring, Gollum, Eagles, Dragons and Treasure,Rohan,Eomer,even the "Where is the horse and the rider" speech from Theoden.Tolkien took a whole bunch of old stories and put them together.Good stories though! Icelandic Sagas as well.
