  • I approve.

  • One of the best game soundtracks ever <3

  • I was reminded of Myst from a MLP: FIM Fanfic and that reminded me of The 7th Guest. It's rather disappointing this game isn't available on Steam. Also, I find it rather interesting my parents let me play this and watch "Are You Afraid Of the Dark" All before I was eight.

  • One of the first computer games I ever remember playing on my parents Gateway 2000. I was just a little kid so don't fault me for using the library on most of the puzzles. =(

  • Gotta love the all-seeing eye pyramids on the corners of the game board :P

  • How did i get here...

    i remember.. nothing

  • @DawkinsForWeAreMany

Part of the problem is that this seems to be a (simulated??) FM synth (so, like SB16 or Pro synth), the other is that it was recorded with the gain too high and even the redbook audio is distorted.

But, yeah, this music needs to be played back on decent MIDI hardware-- The Fat Man wrote it for a Roland GS-55, which sounds considerably better. I played it with an AWE32. As was said, the better synth hardware you have, the better it sounds. Sounds pretty great w sw1000xg :)

  • I spent maybe around 300 to play this when it came out. I upgraded my sound card to an AWE32 (the full sized card with RAM slots) and bought my first CD ROM drive. It's pretty crazy to think about, but, man, PC hardware was costy back then! I haven't been able to get DOSBOX to play CD-based games very well... but I should try harder.

  • In July 2010, on its official Facebook page, Trilobyte confirmed that The 7th Guest will be relaunched on both the iPhone and iPad platforms, and became available on the iTunes App Store on 15 December 2010. A release of the game's sequel, The 11th Hour is also planned for 2011.

Trilobyte has confirmed that there are plans for The 7th Guest III

  • @wiegje i was 6 when i played it!

  • @DawkinsForWeAreMany that's how I recall the music on the PC... but I think since it was MIDI it was really depending on what soundcard you had.. later on my dad discovered we could use his Roland keyboard, which gave it nicer sounding music. I still preferred this version though.

  • fat

  • Can anyone tell me how to play this game on Windows 7? I bought the disc thinking it would be an interesting game, only to find out it won't play.

  • @drockman92 Your operating system is too new. Try downloading an emulator for it like DOSbox

  • @DawkinsForWeAreMany That intro (Trilobyte logo) would suggest otherwise.. though dunno what it would be on.

  • i played this with my mom and grandma when i was little it used to and still does scare the crap out of me i could probaly still beat it to this day

  • @Ssnoogie same here, i'm still scared of this game haha, i was 8 when i played it. had nightmares, holy crap :(

  • how many sleepless nights I spent... not playing this game... but laying awake scared after playing it

  • I remember this game I loved it and it's deffently on my list of games to remake

  • 6:30 for Skull Lady!!

  • It's now out on iPhone and iPad.

  • @luvmenow33 How do i do that

  • My copy is on a cd. I still keep it. I'd love to have an old Win98 just for the old games. <3

  • @kettoshii If you get dosbox you can play all your old games, I do :)

  • I was like 11 when I got my hands on this bad boy,,,,, a week just to figure out how to install it....A master piece of game...

  • my friend and i used to play this game when we were kids

  • Does this game work for Windows 7? =S

If it does so, would somebody explain to me how to work with the DOSBox installing the game? I already have it, so I only would like to know how to work with the emulator. Thanks in advance. =D

  • I hate that the newer operating systems don't work with games like these. I'd love to play this game again.

  • @SJothra,

You can play it using DOSBox.

  • @ADVRipper4EVER I have dosbox.. where can I find the game without having to go thru the pain in the rear of doing that ISO crap.. last time I did that I got a virus on my computer and had to uninstall my OS.

Ive always wanted to play this game and if you could point me in a direction to get it Id be very grateful... I would even buy it, Id like to be able to download it online.

I checked out stream and bought a few games from them, but sadly they don't have the seventh guest.

  • @ADVRipper4EVER: Are you using the actual CD roms or did you download it online?

  • @ADVRipper4EVER I've tried everything on the internet... I have the original PC release and I just can't seem to get it to work. At best, the audio and video skipped.

  • @SJothra use scummvm its better than dosbox

  • @SJothra change the compatibility for it then

  • @SJothra SO WOULD I

  • @SJothra ScummVM can play 7th Guest too

  • @SJothra Also works in ScummVM XD

  • Comment removed

  • @SJothra You can get it for iPhone/iPad for two bucks, and a strategy guide for free on the same platforms.

  • @SJothra You can also run it on scummVM, which is much easier to run and smoother than DOSBox in my opinion.

  • @ItalyDiMar i was 5 or so.. my mum play this bud she never clear anythingXD

6 guests all came one night , their screams their only noise

no one knows what's happened next , there's nothing left to say

but if you should see old man staulf , get on your knees and pray

  • does anyone notice the pyramid with the eye in the menu? for some reason, that symbol has been burned in my memory since i was a child and this game scared the crap out of me. i only now understand what it represents. i wonder why they chose to include it..

  • what does it represent?

  • hmmm.... the all seeing eye. I remember when I was a child, going for a walk with my dad and it was the first time I'd see a skull & crossbones on a wall-scared the shit out of me, quite suddenly. It is amazing, what I have come to learn and seeing the symbology in VG's and movies VG's are littered with cryptic symbols allot of them seem to center around 2012 and such. The unconscious mind also understands the language of symbols. I'll shut up now. Had enough of conspiracy thries myself.

  • I remember playing this game when I was about 8 or 9. gave me nightmares for weeks haha!

  • lol me to

  • So did I! In the maze, It's so easy to get lost and reach a Dead End, with Stauf saying, "Feeling... LOOONELY?!" It's also pretty tough and long. with 20 or so levels/puzzles!

  • Wow now i realize how cheap the graphics wer back then still i remember tht wen i was 5 i bought this at a garage sale and it took me a year to get past the intro since i was so scared

  • I got nightmares the day I got this game.

  • Games like this, along with ones like Phantasmagoria and Shivers, were the most fun my mother and I had so many years ago.

  • "feeeeeeling loooooooooonely "

I remember hearing that sentence in front of a wall in the labyrinth. Loved it :-)

  • I Got this game when I was 10...took me days just to get it running and then is was all nightmares and 1-900 hint numbers.....

  • wow i remember this game i was like 5 lol damn...im 21 now...this was forever ago! it was fun lol

  • this the CDI version?

  • It looks like it. That's how I played it: phillips cdi.

  • I love this game =) but mine won't save.... it's proppa hard!!! lol

  • was 7 years old when i used to play this game with my older brother. terrifying im still getting chills watching this

  • @ItalyDiMar seriously, this still terrifies me!

  • @ItalyDiMar I got 2 years on you lol! 5 years old. Horror movies put me to sleep now though...so I'm always looking for the scariest games!

  • what memories

  • lol, I was about 10 years old when I played this. I cheated using the library on almost all of the puzzles. haha

  • "A Stauf toy is a toy for life"

    how perfectly evil

  • Especially since said life doesn't last for very long after getting one.

  • I rembemer that game:-)

  • I remember playing this when I was a kid and Stauf's welcome still has certain childhood memories and feelings associated with it.

  • I have to agree one of the best horror games along with 11th hour. I loved the music too, but the puzzles drove me crazy ha ha especially the microscope one!

  • One of the best games I ever Played!!!
