nice try lil dude but thats just a temp solution that will work for a hour at the most or when ever your arm gets tired. if thats the way your going to work a air pump or filter might i suggest putting a hose from tank to the top of the filter which will in return siphon its self back to the top giving you an endless flow so that you do not have to keep filling the filter with a cup by hand.

Pump from ebay is about $10. The water needs to be ran through a pump (with more than gravel) about 4 times per minute. Unless you do that all day every day that is animal cruelty.

@FuelKevinTV just fyi emergencies is plural, emergency's is making it a person's thing. Nice filter 8oz per 5secs, thats 42.5gals an hour. You are better off just pouring half the tank off 1-2x every day. Or get a hose have the 2L right side up, put 2l in a bucket below tank, hose in 2L it filters into bucket stop syphon, pour bucket in tank and do it over again. 1/2 tube 4ft drop roughly 3gal per 1min

@iownudie108 well it will keep the water flowing, and you just use from aquarium tubing no a syphon. Fish tanks need a pump anyway no filter = no fish or any other life!

It works better if you put about an inch to an inch and a half of gravel, then put the cut up straw pices and then put about anothe inch to an inch and a half of gravel.. I also recomend standing the straws straight up in the gravel.

@MauriceLikesNFL U dont need to filter 24/7! its just like keeping a betta/Gold fish bowl....no filter. But if u have live plant u need some sort of pump/filter! plants need moving water! its like cleaning the bowl every day. feed less, less mess, less cleaning to do. hope this helps!

umm... i have a turtle and i wanted to watch this because my filter broke but...ok?....i have done this with my penguin 350 filter when it stopped ohh and filter wool/filter sponge on top of the gravel would make it serioulsy clean and make sure you have used a chlorine killer any frog/fish/turtle cannot have chlorine so make sure if this is straight tap water you used a killing agent or this has to be rain water because the filter will not remove the chlorine
