The original 1980 album had a full size card of all the lyrics with pics. I have two copies. Anbody want my original w/ lyric card and bonus gigantic peel-off sticker?
I remember Smash Hits published the lyrics, but I don't remember much of it... chorus is I think 'don't be stupid don't be limp, no girl likes to love a wimp, dance and make fun nicely done, come and be my number one'... the rest I don't remember. Wasn't the singer Swiss?
I remember going to Hazel O connor at the Rainbow in Finsbury Park and the Mo-Dettes were the support act. Its the only time ive seen the place go wild for the support act and Hazel just couldnt match the energy of these girls. I saw them many times after that and it always a good show. Its such a shame they split up as thjey would have been big strs and the lead singers looks.
@SoulstylistJukebox Many of my handmade DVD's are available on my website, I just added a link in the description here but for some reason you can't add links in the comment reply boxes. There are no plans yet to make this available but maybe one day ....
it was released around 1980. It was a huge hit in the dance clubs. I believe it is recently re-released on Cherry Records. Their songs are really worth buying on record, very high energy and nice clean production. I can not make out the lyrics and wish I could, would like to sing along!
brilliant. i loved this song at the time, and hearing it now for the first time in almost 30 years, well it sounds even better now. they were gorgeous, yet stong and in control and not exploited sexually as many female acts still are today. is there a video for 'tonight' that was a great song also
Brilliant! The quality of the video is excellent. Saw many shows at Hurrah - Young Marble Giants, ESG, A Certain Ratio,
Our Daughters Wedding, Pigbag, Polyrock, Pylon. The VJ's at the club burned images of Godzilla with the sounds of this song and John Foxx's Underpass into my brain. Would not trade those days for anything in the world!
Thank you for posting this. Need more though. These girls rocked. I'll have to put "The Story So Far" on the turntable today, (and remember the mad crush I had on them).
So chuffed I looked this up. Instant flashback to brilliant times. I WORSHIPPED the Mo-Dettes as the only female band who didn't look a bit uncomfortable and apologetic on stage. EVER! I shall be on this bit of You Tube for some time.............................
Thanks for posting. Wish it was the entire song, but this is nice to see and hear. Great that all 4 ladies get some camera time. And oh, that bassline...
I spent many a fun night with the Mo-dettes on their "The Good, the Bad & the Ugly tour in '81-'82. I am so sorry to have lost contact with them over the years. If anyone remembers me, this is Louis in New York, please send me an IM. I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks for the posting. This is one of only two live clips i have seen in the past 30 years...As the album has been re-released the chance of a reformation of the band is growing...even if only to say goodbye properly.
