Can't believe Des makes such a huge thing in his autobiography about his slip-up shortly before the two minute mark, admitting he couldn't focus on the match and barely slept the night after as feared his career would be over as a result. A cock-up by his standards yes, but one that was resolved within a couple of seconds and not anything like as bad as he makes out.
Cheers for uploading this - love any nostalgia surrounding Italia '90 and this match is one of my favourite memories.
bobbys jig, waddles mullet, gazza turn on the dutch, gullits dreadlocks, big jack charlton, shiltons miniture shoulders pads, platts swivel and shot, linekers goal poaching, millas wiggle, massings chest high karate tackle, cameroons massive badge on the jersey, huguitas goalkeeping madness, german perms, and slick silver fox des lynam..... ah the memories
Cameroon were a joy to watch play in this world cup....although it must be acknowledged that they were surrounded by horribly drab & negative stuff from the Euro & South American nations..
...So many shite matches....plus Maradona deciding that he wanted to fall over every time he was touched, that said he was fully on the columbian marching powder by then......
i was 10 when this was on the tv and can remember all of that like it was yesterday id never heard of camaroon at that age and loved watching them in italia 90 and the best goal i ever saw was david platts against belgium i ws jumping round the liveing room in 1990 thanks for the memories and does anyone know the song over the camaroon part of this clip?????
Great Memories! Pavarotti & Gazza really brought the beauty of football back to this country. Does anyone have footage of ITV's coverage of the tournament? Also check out Des almost forgetting what to say @2:03 In his autobiography he said that was the moment he thought his career was finished. He recovered well though!
Am I the only one that thinks that game against the Dutch was a fix? Was only 5 but was totally transfixed by this tournament, unfortunately don't think we will have it this good again.
i recorded someof the BBC coverage on tapes. The England and the Cameroon montage were my favoruites of all time. One of my friends borrowed the tapes and lost them.
I havent seen this in over 15 years and i am very happy person at the moment.
Ironically, after England was involved in one of the most boring groups in the history of the World Cup, their three knockout games were all time classics. And who will ever forget anything Cameroon did during the tournament, surely one of the more memorable performances in tournament history.

I'd just finished my university finals.
The sun was shining, it was a gorgeous summer.
And there was some strange feeling in the air that suggested England could actually win this thing.
Yes, they'd been lucky against Belgium. They'd been dour against Ireland and Eygpt. But they'd played the Dutch at their own game and been better.
Maybe, just maybe, this was our time.
Forget the Premiership, THIS was the year English football changed .
Was it only yesterday? Feels like it.

How lucky were England to win this game? They played us off the bloody park for most of the game.

yeah even the intro stirs up thoughts of Gazza, Lineker , Milla, Schillaci, Valderrama that World Cup had drama and some true characters.
