I admit that a lot of cover versions of songs are pretty good, but 3 Dog Night's version doesn't hold a candle to the original. And, by the way, this is the original.

To settle this argument. This is the original. Three dog night verson had more emotion but this one has a slightly darker feel.

Wow... I didn't know whether or not to like this version better at first. But I actually do... it's that quiet feeling, like he really knows what it's like to be lonely (I'd rather listen to someone with true feeling than someone who sings it "well"). Like it!!

It depends on which one you hear first. I know the original and think it is better. Three dog nights version is an exact copy almost.

Yes except the LP record version is mixed and EQ'd better because Harry mixed it himself, unlike this release.  They should release the original mix tapes.

No, it was Harry Nilsson who originally wrote it in 1967. Three Dog Night covered it in 1969 and their version is the best known one, but it was originally Harry Nilsson's song.
