Seeing the 'big cats' was on my bucket list for years. I am so glad I got to see them less than 2 yrs before the incident. It is a real tribute to S&R the love they have for these animals they refused to let Montecore be put down.

Montecore never attacked Roy. Roy tripped while on the stage (Roy thinks he had a stroke at this point) and Montecore was worried about him. So he picked Roy up like a mother would pick up a cub and drag him to safety. Montecore didn't know that humans have arteries on their neck.

The reason why they did not want Montecore to die is because Roy and Siegfried both knew that Montecore did not attack on person...it was confirmed later that Roy had tripped and Montecore went to save Roy and well...y'know how tigers pick their cubs up from the neck...that's what Montecore went to do...although quite like a great dane not knowing its too big...Montecore did not know that he would ultimately crush Roy's neck. It is so true too....you need to gain any animal's trust :)

@deora2dude The tiger's name was Montecore and it apparently was 'protecting' Roy by trying to drag him away by his neck after he'd tripped over the animal's paw. The tiger had just lunged at a stupid woman in the audience who was trying to pet him and Roy got between them and hit it on the nose with his microphone before tripping. They were separated using fire extinguishers. Fortunately Montecore was not put down.

white tigers do not exist in the wild. people say they are rare but actually white tigers were created by humans who inbreed tigers (ex: sister and brother) to create cubs that carry a recessive gene that gives them their white coat. But like in human beings inbreeding is bad cuz the offspring are born with genetic problems and a lot of tigers are borned retarded or deformed. white tigers are created to bring more money to zoos and circuses cuz a lot of people pay to see these "rare" beauties.

Correction, inbreeding takes MANY generations to take a negative affect. Deformaties can also become a problem through people with recessive genes having children, you don't have to be related. Inbreeding is a problem in the wild due to habitat fragmentation as well.

I just watched this show on what they think happened. In the world of animals, as with humans, there is a hierarchy. They think that the day he was attacked Montecore sensed something about Roy that made him think that he could take one more step up. They also think that the Tiger dragged him backstage b/c he became possessive, like they will over a kill or something there playing with.
