@djblue36 - No, that feature is only available on units that cost around $1000 or more such as the Traktor Kontrol S4. With this, you can do it, but you will need to purchase an additional soundcard and software to make it work...but then you should just buy a mixer instead of a controller and be done with it...
Great review, very detailed and thorough. It also gives completely new users an idea of how to use the midi before they even have their hands on it. I really like how he broke down and demonstrated all the features, something that would've taken weeks of self-exploration for a new user.
Q: Do you know of any differences between the various models? (CTRL 2 vs 6 vs 7)?
@TenaciousDave11 - Thanks for the compliments. The CNTRL-7 is the best bang for your buck between the Gemini controllers. The CNTRL-7 has additional Line and phono inputs and can be used as a standalone mixer without the software or a computer as long as you have decks or MP3 players plugged in. The 6 and the 7 are basically the same, but the 7 is fully MIDI mappable so that you can use it with any DJ software any way you see fit. It's worth the extra $50 or so...
@xxjamesroot92 - Yes, you can preview the song in the headphones. You have to use the headphone cue section on the front of the unit to listen to what is under the CUE influence. You then press the cue button for each channel/deck you want to be in the CUE"zone". Pretty simple and the same way you do it on every other DJ Mixer or controller. Thanks.
@maxmaxmax1337 - It will work alone with turntables without a computer and I think you could still use the effects as well. I'm not 100% sure however because I didn't try it.
Awesome review very comprehensive, thanks for taking the time to review it in full..maybe you could set up another short video showing how you would use it for a short mix?
I'm looking to buy my first piece of kit and this may make the cut as it provides a lot of bang for the buck.
Q:As far as the different effects (overloop/flanger/etc), I couldn't tell if there's a visual indicator to help switch through them fast? It'd be great if you included effects in a sample mix vid!
@digitaltrix - I no longer have the device to do any mixex. You can't tell by looking at the unit which effect is on or off, but you can tell by looking directly at the software that the controller comes with. Thanks.
Nice review man! Quick question, not sure if I missed it; but do the knobs for the 3 eqs click? Are they push buttons with instant kill?(like the numark total control)
@KidddyKatt - No they are not a click-type, they only turn all the way down to total kill levels. I still thought it was a good little controller all around.
Thanks again, dude. It's so hard picking a midi controller! I see on CheapDjGear, this mixer is only $249.90 opposed to the $499.90 msrp. Does this sound fishy?
thanks for solving my question

hey so can i use this as a mixer as well for turntables? and if so, would the effects and loops work or is that only for using as a midi controller?
