I worked at Microsoft for three years, and what boggles the noggin is that they have a great R&D division that cranks stuff like this out all the time. And by "cranks stuff like this out," I mean that they do amazing things, shelve them, and move on. PhotoSynth has existed for years, but even I didn't care until I could shove it into my little iPhone. Seadragon, too. Unfortunately, I'm NDA-bound from talking about the brilliant stuff I saw, but thanks to iOS, some of it's finally coming out...

@RoryBlyth, I'm jazzed about this panorama creation app on mobile devices and happy to see people being aware of the Photosynth brand. (And I'm actually pretty excited to see where this all goes with Read/Write World).
That said, I have to say that it pains me a little that the Photosynth app neither creates nor opens actual photosynths at this point. The panos are fine, but I wish that the app at least opened synths like iSynth does.
Hopefully with WinPhone, we'll see more MSR tech released.
