My teacher told me to look this up, to see how others do it. The beginning starts out pretty, but then it goes on, and just-- what happened? The Rs are way too over-pronounced, and it sounds off. I think it may be their Australian accent, but their vowels sound odd.
oh to be young again!!! This is just a marvelous performance... It is obvious that you have spent a great deal of time with these young people to bring them to such marvelous performance standards... Planning to move to Australia, so maybe i will get to hear you all in person!! Keep up the great work!
Wow! Great Vowel Shaping - what beautiful voices. I didn't sense the tendency for people this age to want to move to the diphthong! What types of warm ups do you do?
Thanks for the kind words. I'm in the process of writing a book on warmups that will be simple, clear and inexpensive. I can alert you to when this is ready for review or purchase. Contact me privately and leave your email.
jeez guys wut is with all of u saying u were better? i sang this too when i was in the colorado children's chorale... we were good too. the sound on the video makes them not sound as good. but i still think this is very well sung.
Yeah. When you capture things on video, like, without some professional microphone to catch all the details, it always sounds weird. (: They're really good. (:
Pretty sure when we did this in our school choir, we sounded like poo on stick. Possibly because the soprano's were the only ones singing and everyone else sat around flicking spit balls at each other. ahhh memories.
@evertonian1994 i know exactly how u feel lol, i watch choirs singing songs that ive done in my choir and i sit here thinking we do it better :P i felt this is done too fast, meaning that the words werent as emotional and heartfelt as it could be :D
pretty good our choir sang this - we went tof rance (on tour) and sang it in a breathtaking catherdral there and it sounded AMAZING my favourite choir song ever
That's interesting -- I've accaompanied this on the pipe organ and it worked very well. There's also a version on youtube with pipe organ accompaniment and it seems very appropriate as a musical choice (and not all muffled as bimo50 suggests it would be). This choir produces a lovely sound as far as I can tell through this youtube medium; I'm going straight to the website!
Agreed. Good organists are rare compared to the number of good pianists around. A struggling pianist on a pipe organ would have been a distraction to the choir and the competition.
@musicedworld Agreed. this song is too light and airy for a pipe organ, even using flutes. as a choirmaster and organist myself, i rarely use the organ with the choir as i find it tends to over power the choir with its grandure and volume (not because of bad playing but because, generally you dont think of it as accompanying choirs singing light and airy songs)
Margaret in SA just sent me your links and what excellent work you have been doing in Australia with your fine ensembles. This is the way to go in music and art education especially in Australia where it is all a struggle for recognition, funding and support.

very fast, isn't it? and some of the higher notes sounded strained and they overpronounced their Rs.

Such a beautiful song - the SATB arrangement is awesome, though, to hear the blend of the different vocal registers.

One of the best performances of this piece on YouTube, if not the best.

I much like the SATB arrangement of this song, but coming from an SSA choir, I say both arrangements are equally beautiful. :)

they are not trebles, they are sopranos. The word "treble" applies to boys.

personally I think this song should be sung by an SATB choir not just treble cuz the Bass part is awesome

That's becuase they are unbroken treble voices. They are not men -they are 12 years old. You might be thinking of the SATB version.

This was a competition -we don't have a pipe organ at our school to prepare with, nor would I have considered it appropriate for this work.

The Locus Iste was also impressive.
