First of all, your hair looms awesome in this video.
Second of all, Ally Mcbeal taught me to embrace my crazy. (I'm 17, I know that reference made me sound like 45) granted, I'm not as crazy as she is, but still.
I dig what you say, but remember that characters in movies aren't people. They're little lie machines, and usually when they behave in counter-intuitive ways it's only to move the story along. What I mean is, I think most real life people would have said "I'll walk with you."
Even if your inclination is to be a "follower" and not a "leader" then you should go with it. Your instinct is your one true god.
I actually got this new perspective on confidence from the song A White Blank Page by Mumford & Sons, in the line when it says 'tell me now where was my fault in loving you with my hole heart' I had always thought I was in the wrong when I liked someone and they didn't like me back, but that line made me step back, I'm allowed to feel whatever I want. I'm allowed to be heartbroken when he says no but that doesn't mean I'm a stupid ugly girl it means I'm human.
Oh, also Haruhi from this anime of the same name (Suziyami Haruhi or something) really inspired me, as funny as it sounds. Because... every crazy idea she would have... she would go after it like it was REALLY SUPER LEGIT and somehow would get people to support her and allow her to lead them, even though her ideas were crazy!!! And no matter what... she stayed true to her goal, going after each activity, whether it worked or not, as if it were REALLY THE SHITTTTT. I was like "damn..."
@quitejaded And to be honest, that is what I am learning right now. I'm learning to not get exhausted after trudging along and feeling like I don't have the results I want. I'm learning to get excited about my ideas -- every moment IS legit! Every moment HAS to be the shit! And then celebrate EVERY little success I have, just like Haruhi does. Its worth it, isn't it? This is a hard lesson for me to learn, but I will have the energy to keep to my goals if I get this through my head!
The movie character (based on a true story, though) that inspired me the MOST was the girl in From Homeless to Harvard. I just thought "I have no excuses in my life... I'm just lazy." And this might sound silly, but Ren from Even Stevens... she had organization and confidence that I LACKED and I so so so badly wanted to be more like her. I would buy the stuff they had in her room on set just so I could feel more organized like her! Hah!
This is probably really obvious and common but Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice is basically the type of woman that I aspire to be. She's so confident in her ability to go about her life in a manner that's right for her and not for everyone else. She doesn't let anyone that disregards her best interests influence her decisions. She loves fiercely and yet she has a rational side to her that always prevails. Ugh, I just LOVE HER SO MUCH.
Not a character from a movie, but Michael Jordan influenced my confidence more than anyone. Before I meet with a room full of clients or ask a woman on a date, I think back to some of Jordan's inspirational quotes...it works wonders for me.
Is it bad that I was inspired by Olive Penderghast (Emma Stone) in Easy A. I think she just kind of showed me that you don't have to make people like you. You should be happy with who you are. That and you shouldn't sleep around... :)
Angelina Jolie's character, Legs in the movie Foxfire.. Most underrated B grade movie ever! Her character was incredible, this free spirit that stood up for what she believed in, but at the same time she was so flawed and sad.. I don't know I think there's a beauty in that. But the movie changed my life and told me to like something even if other people think its lame. To just do me.
ok, one more. I am inspired by the movie "To End All Wars". The collection of characters in this flick constantly remind me of the opportunities I have for success that so many don't have, and keep my grateful and hard working. So yea, I def think we need to constantly keep out lives in perspective to our world. kthxbi!
I felt connected to Will Ferrell in Stranger Than Fiction. I find myself calculating every step of my life as well and in the end of that movie he did what he knew he had to do regardless if it ended up almost costing his life. I felt like in his shoes I would have done the same thing, just enjoyed life for what it was.
Odd as I review movies on my channel but I can't consciously think of any movies that have influenced me. I can think of many characters I wish I was like. In high school I had a picture of Indian Jones with a post it under it that said, "My ideal self." I suppose Humphrey Bogart did on some level as my 40's inspired look came from my love of Casablanca, The Big Sleep, and the Maltese Falcon.
I know it sounds really nerdy but Spock influences me in my day to day life. In Star Trek II he says "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one." I try to live my life according to this phrase.
The movie Children of Men, And the protagonist Theo played by Clive Owen. Theo was just a guy, he never pretended to be a hero. He just did what he knew was right. He was just Theo, he never wanted praise or anything of the sort. Theo is sort of like how I see my father now. Not as a figure that did the impossible to rise from the slums. He just wanted to have enough to eat, and when he met my mother and had kids that didn't change. That man that Theo was and my father is the one I am now.
@JoseDeSan93 I haven't seen it, but all I could think when reading your comment was that the same can be said for Harry Potter (you get this more when you read the books than watching the movies) - that's really sweet about your father :)
@FartWithHeadphonesOn Thank you. I have read the Harry Potter books, and that is very true. Side note my father is a fairly confident man, so I suppose that I became confident as a result. Ahh confidence, now in diet flavor.
I know it's another John Cusack one (what can I say, the guy was the hero of the 90s) but Martin Blank from Grosse Pointe is another contender. Pure and simple: Get over your shit. Everyone has baggage. Dump it and embrace life and love. It's never too late.
@FartWithHeadphonesOn At least that's the message I took from it. I dunno. After watching Fight Club I felt inspired to open a shop that sold explosives and soap. I could hire you to put together an advert for me? The place is called Blow-Up Soap.
That was actually a very cool message. As a sidenote, I farted today whilst walking and listening to music in my headphones... not sure if it was audible, since I was wearing headphones. I feel I can now empathize with you on every level.
@FartWithHeadphonesOn INDEED. PERCHANCE IT WAS MEANT TO BE, IN A COMPLETELY NON-CREEPY WAY. I just realized that all-caps makes that sound even creepier.
MORE FARTS PLZ!!! everytime I see someone sing or playing an instrument (well), it triggers my "damn why am I not doing this (yet)"... they do what they want to do and even if they make mistakes, it doesn't matter ... there presence is way bigger and ... arghs.. ok me bed.. otherwise I start writing a novel now.... and I am probably too sleepy right now and make sense only 2 myself.
I love your style. You inspired me to call myself a video producer. I couldn't put a word on it until I saw the stuff you were doing with Marie Forleo. Then I got it. That's exactly what I do. I produce videos. Weird being in front of the camera but I'm getting better.
I think that most of my personality in high school (and still now, to some degree) was directly related to the fact that, every single weekend, I watched "Ghost World," and I was just obsessed with how cool Thora Birch's character was, and I just wanted to BE Enid (but for boys).
Honestly Luke Skywalker still is one character I think about as a role model. What would Luke do. The best moment in the whole saga is at the end of Empire and how he learns that Vader is his father doesn't join him just manages his emotions I know he's cute a whiny bitch sometimes but so am I. But he let's go. Risks death and refuses to join the Dark Side. Anakin in the preqs had trouble letting go and became Vader.
