  • I often see "drag" beetle setups with no noticeable fan shroud...how are these things being cooled? Just passively off moving air and short run times?

  • 212 HP "with various problems" lol nice Awesome little car :)

  • i use cylinders from deutz magirus, machine the block and heads...104mm. 46/40 valves..chev pistons....startup in a week..cant wait!!

  • 102.36mm is a 4.03" chevy piston. I made the cylinders from cast iron hollow bar. These piston were actually made by Ross Pistons for a supercharged 350, but I cut notches into them for valve clearance, and use them normally aspirated. They are a little heavy, but seal well up to my 8400 rpm limiter.

  • Is the enginre in the front.

  • @Leowen2

    EPIC FAIL

  • @Leowen2 No that is in the back of the car.

  • The engine is 2715cc and based on an aftermarket type 1 block. The head studs were moved out o fit 102.36mm pistons, and it uses a 82.5mm chank that i made from a chunk of 4340 bar. It has a roller cam shaft, and Pauter heads with mechanical injection on methanol(13:1 compression) The car weighs 810kg and has run as quick as 10.93@122mph

  • @dangerousVW 102?! are they from a type 4 or vanagon?

  • @dangerousVW you MADE the crank? *Stands and claps* nice job.

  • Hitler would be unhappy with the final results.... And sent you straight to the gas chambers, LOL!!!!

  • After rebuilding one of these in my younger years, and owning more than a few, unless you have worked on and with one of these cars, you can't imagine the work that goes into building something like this.

    Hats off!

  • Find the water....

  • Hitler would be happy.

  • @sniegaviirs24 Careful what you say, the U.S government will take away your internet.

  • Comment removed

  • it is 678.75cc per cylinder! :O

  • and herby rides again!

  • It might help if the exhaust was not on the ground. but that thing sounds like its hitting 8k rpm.

  • MARAVILHOSO FUSCA !!!

  • what is the name of the song

  • They never last long like this...

  • mamma mia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That BORE and STROKE?

  • Volkswagon Beetle? more like Volkswagon Hornet that thing is a beast.

  • I live in So cal, and it sucks I don't get to see very many of these anymore, way to keep them running. Hopefully one day i'll come up with extra money to restore a old school VW and build an engine such as that.

  • @420witchdoctor

You´re wrong - no 911 was ever build with less than 6 cylinders.

The 912 (build for a short, unsuccesful time) was fitted with a 4-cylinder.

    Get schooled yourself ;-)

  • Nice VW man ! I used to run a similar setup back in the day , so much like a type 4 , scat supercase , superflo or dinasaur heads , it sounds healthy .looks like Hilborn injection on alcohol , nice ... Funny the guys standing on it to keep it down .

  • Looks like a scat engine case, I'm shure there is just a hand full of parts left in that engine that fit in a vw Type 1. Nice craftsmanship!

  • 2715cc engine ??? From what car ??

  • Looks like an old Porche motor.

  • some info please

    cam

    crank

    piston heads

    carbs

    thanks

  • some inefo please

    cam

    crank

    piston heads

    carbs

    thanks

  • bad fucking ass. i wish wheelspin on the dyno was a problem i had...

  • ONe evil sounding bug, takes me back to the days I worked for Dean Lowery. I finally got over bugs when I sold my 69 Ghia, the engines sure are gettin large.

  • the best arguments stem from this users videos, priceless

  • WOW! Where can I get a 2700 cc kit for my fourster???

  • 4. ACVW Type ONE engines (Beetle) have pushed more then 700hp through them. I have YET to see an AC Porsche engine do that.

    5. You can make that thing street legal, but making it STREETABLE is a different story. Something like this bug is a handful to drive.

    6. This VW runs probably mid to low 11s. A VW that runs those speeds is about as hard to drive as a 9 second V8.

    7. About everything I said: Don't try to prove me wrong on this. I know my shit. I know when someone doesn't.

  • @AYEcorolla he he your wrong, and you don't know your shit. all porche 911's were air cooled until 1998. I also know i guy who has a porche 356 kit car with a 2.3 vw stroker that has a dick landy supercharger,4 barrel holley, and all the race goodies, and he drives it, wherever and whenever he pleases. It is only a handfull when he puts his foot down. I also own a vw bug, and i love it and its an exellent car. heat took a litte tinkering to make good heat, but other than that great car.

  • @csimvwtnt The title says it is a type 1 engine. I thought type 1 engines stopped at 2300CC and Porsche engines were type 4 but I don't know what their displacement range is.. 2715CC for a type 1 engine seems like an awful lot of displacement, but I'm not a VW expert either. I just haven't seen such a large type 1. Love to have one. I'd put it into a plane. Hell, I could hang on the prop with that engine!!! woo-hoo!!!

  • @Landotter1

type 1 can go up 3.000 ccm - i would not recommend that.

Type 4 came up from late 411, 912 Porsche & Busses.

The difference is in design of cylinderheads & cams & crank bearing.

For Inflight use: Better use a properly build up 914 UL - 4 Cyl. Turbo 115 hp Rotax Engin.

  • @freeclimb64 Rotax are good engines but have 2 huge problems. 1. low TBO and 2. High priced. Many people have been using, with great success, VW engines for 40+ years. Thanks for your post!!! :-D

  • @Landotter1

    Sorry you´re wrong:

    Type-One engines stopped at 1584cm³. That´s the 1,6l flat-four.

Type-Four are no Porsche Engines, but have been fitted in the 912.

(looks like an ´70th aircooled 911)

From that view, this 912 is more likely a flat beetle, than a Porsche.

  • @freeclimb64 Bro... I ain't gonna argue with you... Look up K C Dawn Patrol dot org and see that they are still using VW engines, with great success. Volksplane used them too, thus "Volks" Rotax are just too expensive, otherwise, there are many who would be using them... I'm IN aviation bro. I know.... The boys that build the planes I refer to use 2200CC type 1 engines... look for yourself.... before you go calling me wrong....

  • @Landotter1

    Don´t compare uncomparable.

We´re talking about car engines fitted in normal VWs.

There are a lot generator / pumpengines fitted with the ac VW flatfours also - uncountable.

Type One for cars stopped with 1584cm³ - trust me.

  • @freeclimb64 Welp.... You can contact the KC Dawn Patrol and ask them if they are using type one engines or not... Well, they are. But, you should go see for yourself and then,,, I'll have my apology but ANYWAY.......

  • @AYEcorolla

    Wrong:

There are no flatfour Type-ONE capable to deliver 700HP.

Maybe nitro-fueled - for some sconds.

On this technical help, every other simple engin would be able to deliver easily 100-200% more power.

Don´t be so stupid, to compare uncomparable technical concepts.

  • @freeclimb64

    Red Baron. Look it up.

    Look up Paradise VW also..

  • To clear up some stupid shit:

    1. Some 356s did use an engine similar to the type 1, some didn't. They had DOHC 356s, this car here is OHV.

    2. There is no such thing technically as a Porsche AC 4 banger, those were VW engines taken from the 411/412 series. They were put into the 912 and 914, but they are STILL VW engines.

    3. I always hear people saying OHH its got a porsche engine. NO. I have NEVER seen a Porsche engine in a beetle. (IAW statement 2, they would be a 6 banger)

  • @AYEcorolla

Sorry to clear yout (stupid) comment.

1.No flatfour was ever build with DOHC.

All flatfours have only ONE camshaft placed directly below crankschaft,

right in the middle of the crankcase.

The valves are opened via (really long) push rods

    2. they look like AC-"Porsche-Engins" because they´re fitted with 911 generator, 911 Cooling-Fan and customizes doghouse. OK?

3.There are several flat-six on the roads - even her in germany,

where it´s pretty difficult to get them street-legal.

  • @freeclimb64

    1. Subaru makes flat fours too bub.

    2. So what, those tins were NOT made by Volkswagen, they are ALL aftermarket. That makes the fact that they LOOK like Porsche engines totally irrelevant, because they are STILL not.

    3. Tell you what- post a vid of one that isn't totally hacked to shit. I have seen beautifully done 1302/1303 Supers with huge ass type fours in them, never have I seen the flat 6 in one.

Also, Porsche DID make a DOHC flat four. VERY limited number for the 356

  • @AYEcorolla

0.) read - think - post only if wise & necessary

    1.) we´re talking about VW flatfour - don´t mix

2.) they´re commonly named Porsche-Engins, because of their look - nothing else

    3.) search yourself with 911 Käfer or 911 beetle - you´ll see ;-)

The rear has to be streched - ruins the shape of the classic silhoutte

4.) If ever - Some experimental DOHC do not matter. There was no production line ever

  • @AYEcorolla

Search in YouTube: "beetle with porsche 2.7"

And calm down, looks like you´re better placed in your chintzy, japanese corolla.

    ;-)

  • Big bully, I would be willing to bet, this little bug would WALK anything you got! These little shits practically EXPLODE out of the hole!

  • @fuknmovin Dude, you are a fucking douche. I was not knocking the bug in any way shape or form. Get a fucking life

  • @420witchdoctor not 911s only 914s 912s and 356s are porsches with four cylinders

  • @surfpangea um never heard of a 944 eh?

  • @surfpangea or a 924?

  • Isto é uma grande máquina.

  • I like beetles with normal, original engines. But I can't help smiling when I see a beetle like the one in the film doing the quarter mile faster than a Ferrari.

  • are those vw u tune up street legal?

  • @predator5723 that one isnt

  • Haha, I like how they had to have two guys stand on the sides to prevent wheel hop (most likely). Nice video and insane car.

  • you are the fucking dumbass the 356 were the ones with the 4 cylindric engine from the vw beetle. even the first 911 had the 6-cylindric boxer engine that was used until the late 90ies.

  • @guitarplayer0007

Wrong: Used till today - watercooled.

  • @freeclimb64 yeah u are right but it as long as i was aircooled (993 was the last model to have that engine) it was actually the engine from the 60ies. although it's still almost the same engine.

i was just talking about the early aircooled models (as said till 993)

  • @420witchdoctor Its says Type1 vw engine in the description, and porsche 911's have a 6 cylinders not 4.

  • fucking insane

  • @420witchdoctor they never made a aircooled 2.2 so no

  • If the header wasnt on the floor it might hook up.

  • im not sure...but it looks like the header is making contact with the floor.

I'm probably wrong but I was just curious

  • @shogunballa14 it is, but only because the dyno sits below the floor, so the car sits lower to the ground in the back. Hope that guy's got stiff ass shocks in the back, otherwise one bump is all it takes to rip apart that header

  • I love when people think they do, but dont know what they hell they are talking about.

  • dont worry its not a watercooled v8 with an unreal amount of bullshit on it. it's an aircooled vw made to withstand high rpm and high heat.

  • AMEN! VW FOE EVA!!!

  • Best engine design in history!

  • @aircooledvw62 is that why vw buses burn up easy?

  • @insane320 No. That's because of people installing fuel filters in the wrong area, or not replacing bad fuel lines. As most people who own an old VW work on them themselves. They get everything running good and neglect maintainence. Also they are pretty easy to Jerry rig to get home and it leads to shauty work.

  • @insane320 Find a vid of a bus burning up due to engine overheating, if you feel certain it has been an issue in the past.

  • @hunterziegelmann happened to a friend of mine way back but honestly i'm not an expert on vw's took his word on it they had solid engines could run them into the ground and keep going

  • i need that engine! good fun!

  • WOW!!! How did you get such a motor? Where can I get one???

  • you can build one, but it wont be cheap

  • @Bigbully0110 its just i highly modified bug engine i think

  • @Bigbully0110 type 4.

    They are NOT cheap.

  • @AYEcorolla Never said they were!

  • @Bigbully0110 Not you. I am talking about the people in the Porsche arguement

  • @AYEcorolla aah ok

  • @AYEcorolla

    they are cheap.

  • @Bigbully0110 build it.

  • @Bigbully0110

Pretty easy: Buy some Bug parts and complete an engine.

    Around 2k$ you´ll get 100Hp

    Around 3k§ you´ll get 120HP

    and so on.

It´s pretty easy & affordable to power up a Bug flat-four.

I got me one at highschool, changed to 1835ccm, added 269° camshaft, 44 cylinderheads and got around 95HP.

Lot of music for a 800kg Beetle.

  • @Bigbully0110 You build it your self ground up

  • @Bigbully0110 lots of places...vw paradise would be my choice if i had the money

  • @Bigbully0110 .... check out 4inbore.com!
