Ahhh... :( I loved old D&D soo much... 1st edition, AD&D was a game dug out from a old box I found and it all started, and 3rd Edition with most juicy content that gave whole world most appealing taste, and Planes setting - masterpiece... It's sad somehow they went away from the old world...
Man I really appreciate your videos, please keep up the good work. A lot of D&D stuff on YouTube is garbage. I especially like your interviews with Ed Greenwood!
The high level NPC's only get used if the STUPID D.M. Allows that. I have a really hard time believing that anyone of average intellect would have this trouble.
Maybe this was a problem in your game Chris?
That sign should read "Chris Perkins MUST BE STOPPED!!!"
@FRAvenger Death to accursed Mystra and all her minions! Of course repulsive Mystra is dead along with Azuth, Savras,Khelben and other degenerates. Glorious Spellplague killed them all.
@highpriestrsw2 Repulsive Mystra had to be stopped. Cyric and shar stopped her forever.Hooray! Hoora! Azuth, Savras, Khelben, six of seven whores are all dead.Hooray! Accursed Harpers disbanded at least.Hooray! Deat to degenerate Elminster, his slut Simbul and their brat!
Thank you for Spellplague, 4E, destruction of accursed neverwinter and death of mystra! Thank you very much WotC and Hasbro! Hasbro was always my favorite company and now WotC is my another favorite company. Forgotten Realms was saved fom mystrean filth and is now one of my favorite settings.

@highpriestrsw2 No, WotC must be supported in praiseworthy, glorious work of freeing the Forgotten Realms from the tyrannical cunt mystra. Fortunetly Cyric killed the arch harlot.
I'm a bit miffed actually. it just seems they've destroyed everything Ed Greenwood has created up until now.The now diminished Elminster no longer seems to give a damn anymore. All but one of the seven sister is dead as far as I can tell, and even the harpers, perhaps Elminster's biggest legacy, have been disbanded. I can't believe Ed agreed to this...
I whole fucking agree with that. btw Ed didnt agree, they didnt listen to a word he said he wont even touch 4th edition remember he has no say what happens in his own world after tsr was sold to wizards
@youngdragon32 Spellplague is the most glorius event in history of Forgotten Realms. I hated Mystra, Azuth, Savras,Khelben Aransun, seven whores of Mystra and they are all dead. Even Krehlan BlackstaffArunsun, son of accursed Khelben was killed. Aransun's heir Tsarra Blackstaff Chaadren is also dead. Harpers disbanded at least. Mystra was self-righteous, judgemental, overbearing, domineering, condescending, mean-hearted fascist cunt. I hope Elminster, his slut Simbul and their brat die too.
@Narania234 If you say so. It's not the Faerun I know and use. I'll be sticking to 3.5 Edition. And apparently Ed Greenwood, the father of the Forgotten Realms, agrees, as he continues to write pre-spellplague novels. They lost a lot of fans with this...
@youngdragon32 . ''It is Mystra's aim to eventually subsume the Shadow Weave into her own portfolio, even if that means sacrificing her last remaining vestiges of humanity and inherent goodness and absorbing more of the darkness that is Shar''.
She wanted to absorb the power of ShadowWeave and to dominate the entire continent of Faerun and planet of Toril. Even Lord Ao worried, whether mystra won't dominate Toril. Mystra had to be killed. Cyric and Shar freed Toril from Mystra' s tyranny.
@youngdragon32 I prefer novels by R.A. Salvatore, the greatest Forgotten Realms writer, his son Geno Salvatore and James Lowder. This is the Forgotten Realms i love but Spellplague freed Toril forever from mystrean tyranny.
Good Change is good. Change focused on dumbing down the system and leaving it watered down and over "balanced" to appeal to a wider (read: LOWER INTELLIGENCE) audiance, is NOT good.
I'm not too impressed by the rules changes i've heard about and the internet crap for 4E... but he does make a revisited forgotten realms sound extremely appealing.
If you've read or had a player attempt to play a character from Book of Nine Swords, then you should know that this is exactly what 4th edition will look like...fighters will be like spellcasters who deals 100 points of damage per hit or "manuever". This is why the realms is changing...to incorporate this mystical fighter bs where they do hundreds of points of damage and can stand toe to toe with dragons and wizards. Total crap, in my opinion, but everybody's special and a hero in $th edition.
You must be misinformed. I run a 4e game at epic level and my 22nd level characters do not do 100 points of damage a move. Another thing is that there is still nothing in my game that goes hunting for dragons. While yes they are powerful they still have their limits even at epic level just like in any other edition of the game.
They want make money: accepted. But lets face it everything changes, change is part of life and part of gaming. Change is good. Embrace it. I spend far too much time with people who can't deal with change, trust me, this change will be good and the game will be better for it. At least people are talking about DnD again and not just WOW or MMO's.
"Change is good. Embrace it. I spend far too much time with people who can't deal with change, trust me, this change will be good and the game will be better for it."
Do you even know what the changes are? I know enough about 4e Realms to know that I cannot understand how any real Realms fan could support it.
I doubt this setting revamp will be any more substantial than the Time of Troubles was. The finished product needs to be seen to be judged, or much more preview material to get a better picture of what is to come.
One way or another, it has been an interesting conversation. I wish dedicated RPG message boards could be this free of trolling and flames (wishful thinking ;-)).
I disagree. The new edition paves a way for reconstruction of much of the Time of Troubles, and as such it gives it more time to be thought out and base ideas can be made more instrumental. I don't doubt that they will take every opportunity to employ all that the new edition has to the setting. I hope personally it becomes more then just a setting, but the setting for the new edition.
They definitely need to condense and thicken the information. I have seen people argue for 20 page threads about where the black people are in Torril. There were huge portions of the 3e FRCS that were barely talked about. We should know the people, the culture, and the architecture in every region. Why waste creative energy thinking about whether the people drink buffalo milk, or ox?
People have said the same thing between every edition change. I personally preferred the original vision of the Realms that was presented, but find the Third Edition core book the single best Realms book ever made (it packed a lot of info in a very usable manner between its covers), so I am going to hold off my judgment until I actually see the product with my own two eyes.
Funny you didn't comment on the 'D&D meets NGE' portion.
Stripping out things and worrying about 'too much' information is never good for a setting. It always comes down to DM skill in starting off slow in rich settings. Whole cloth pruning it down never makes it better.
Honestly, I can't figure out what NGE stands for, care to shed some light?
The too much info part of your comment comes down to personal taste. I don't doubt that for you pruning the setting is a bad thing. For others, it may not be. I am an example of that. I had tons of Forgotten Realms stuff over multiple editions, and was most happy with only using the Third Edition core book and nothing else. It worked best for me, even if it doesn't work well for you.
That's the beauty of more. It appeals to both schools of thought. Less only appeals to those who like less and leaves those who like more out in the cold.
It's far easier for those who like less to only use one book as you describe, than it is for those who like more to write the missing books.
"It's far easier for those who like less to only use one book as you describe, than it is for those who like more to write the missing books."
I agree 100%. Where did they say there won't be an endless stream of source books like there always have been? I have been using GamerZer0's videos as my only information source, so I am not completely up to date on the Fourth Edition happenings.
This video (parts 1 & 2) describe how they are removing much of the higher level heroes of the realms, and removing much of the materials that made realms 'intimidating' to those new to the setting.
I would venture a guess that it's just a repeat of the core book and then rebuilding the other material in supplemental books that happened in 3.X edition. Just another re-re-grab for cash.
I bet your guess is 100% correct. They re-released it for 2nd, 3rd, and of course they will do it again. It is the flagship setting after all, and will need a core book with further support for 4th. I don't see any problem with that, and people would raise hell if they didn't get it.
I don't consider it a cash grab because they are changing things and trying to evolve the product. 3.5, and Star Wars Revised could be considered such a cash grab, though I thought they were both decent products.
How much of the intimidating parts will actually be the core of Faerun, and how much will be the less popular surrounding areas? I honestly don't know, but I bet the core of the setting will be the same Realms we both love. Losing some of the NPCs isn't really a loss in my mind, as I see little value in them, though other opinions may differ. A nice compromise might have been to recreate them within the 30 levels in the new Player's Handbook, making them not quite so powerful and out of reach.
By judging his face and expressions when he was asked who made the decision to change the FR campaign. One can easily understand it was an "outside finger" and not a team's decision...
High level npc's who intervene and take all the glory only happens when the dm uses them improperly or are being used to show the PCs' what they aren't doing...
Only a week to go until we might learn what kind of a time jump is involved in Faerun...
Couldn't agree more. Back when I ran games in the Forgotten Realms, the super NPCs were never an issue in any way. Not that I have a problem with what they are doing with the setting for Fourth Edition either, as I take a wait and see approach to such things.

Also, wasn't aware Ed didn't like 4E?
