  • Man! Seeing those driver so close up is a thing of beauty!

  • yee-hoo!!! shes back in june! MABE

  • Nice! I have it on my MSTS as well. :-)

  • Nice Video! But they got to get that Diesel-Electric 518 out of there! Keep it vintage!!!

  • What an evocative sound that whistle makes!

  • Cool shots! 5 Stars!

  • expertly made

  • I chased the 261 from St. Paul to LaCrosse. I missed it at Hastings, caught up to it at Red Wing but I ended up on the other side. That's probably me in front of the engine and behind the fence at the 4 minute mark. I got video of it pulling out which I will eventually be putting on here. Lost my cell phone there too. But I did get it back.

  • so is steve at the throttle?

  • Yes sir, he was all day.

  • dude, you did great work on the 261!

    congrats!

  • I was on this Ferry move.....A great ride....261 really has a great crew.,,,,

    Lovetoseesteam

  • Great video! You gotta give CP a lot of credit for upgrading the track structure along the river the way they have.

  • Cant stand the SF 6 chime, bring back the MILW 3 chime!

  • 5 chime, FIVE CHIME. Also the 3 chime is still on the engine!!!

    Dan

  • i thought there was a atsf 6 chime on the 261

  • Nope, 'tis an ATSF 5 chime.

    Dan

  • did they ever apply the air horn on the excursions

  • It's always on her, right behind the bell. If you watched the whole video, it's at the end.

  • There is no way thats a 5 chime. I have a video of the Santa Fe 3751 in 91 and the whistle she had back then was a 5 chime whistle, but it sounded way different then this whistle. If you don't belive me find some videos of the 3751 in 91 or 92 and listen to the 5 chime whistle she had then.

  • It is. The 3751's originally sounded DAMN close to this but then it became bulls&^t.

    Dan

  • Oh so the whistle the 3751 has now is her original whistle? But did the 5 chime whistle she had from 91 to 92 come from another engine?

  • She has an ATSF 6 chime now. The 5 chime was her original.

  • Oh ok thanks for clearing that out.

  • Recently we found it is a ATSF 6.

  • what kind of 3 chime is it?

  • The air horn is a single chime, but if you're talking about the original whistle, it's the standard MILW ALCo 3 chime from the factory.

  • Man,I wish the MSTS Model had that good of a whistle! (Did I spell that right)

  • Did you know the 261 was (i don't know when) in a triple-header with two CHINESE qj locos!

  • Yes I knew that.

  • Do you know when it was?

(Awesome that you can film the Milwaukee Road 261 so much times.)

  • Awesome, i hope that anyone ever makes a Milwaukee Road 261 in trainz!!

  • Someone did but he's not releasing it anytime soon.

  • You are lucky

  • correction, i meant 4:23

  • boy, i never get tired of hearing that beautiful santa fe 6 chime at 4:14

  • Actually it's a 5 chime. It belonged to a 2900 class ATSF 4-8-4.

  • for a 5 chime, it's awsome

  • 261`s bell reminds of the chime of the one on the 3985

  • yeah thats true. And every time i hear that whistle it makes me think of what it would be like to see a santa fe 2900 4-8-4 operating again.I guess that day will be coming soon seeing as the restoration of Santa Fe 2926 is getting closer to completion.

  • There is an ATSF 2900 available at

    train-sim*com.

  • What happened to the whistle in the last shot? Were they using the P32's horn??

  • That's 261's air horn. It's her old MILW single chime horn. The MILW didn't ever use the whistle and therefore the cord was tied to the cab ceiling all the time and the air horn used. Also correction, thats a B32-8WH behind 261's water canteen.

  • @the air horn: Good deal. ty! :)

@the P32BWH: Yeah, I know, I'm just too lazy to type it all out! ;)

  • The 261 has it's own air-horn. Most modern steam locomotives (SP 4449 is one of them) had air-horns to activate sound-sensitive crossing gates.

  • Damn!!!! it can move....do know where it'll run again in September, I wouldn't mind filming her. Great video 5 stars!!!

  • Awesome, I love the sounds of that engine. Lionel needs to make one.

  • Awesome video,5 stars!!!!!

  • When does the 261 pull excursions?

  • Quite often. But september will be her last runs before overhaul.

  • Hoe the overhaul goes well. She's such a great engine. I wish bachmann or somebody would make an HO version.

BTW, that's some of the best whistling I've ever heard. It's an underapreciated art, whistle blowing.

  • There are brass versions of Milwaukee S3's. Yeah the whistling is by Steve Sandberg, my friend and engineer that day. He's also the boss of 261!!

  • Lucky dude!

  • Are they just doing a routine overhaul?

  • Yep. The 1472 service day overhaul.

  • I'm a bit new with overhauls. How long will this one take?

  • Well, i'd rather see it down for a few weeks/months rather than in a musuem badly mangled forever

  • me too.

  • She will be down over the winter for sure. Most of the stuff the FRA requires has already been done. Otherwise this would have taken almost a year to a full year.

    Dan

  • Yes it does.. I was there with Dan, My video won't go on YouTube, but will be a DVD preview.

  • The lift bridge at hastings still carrys the Milwaukee Road logo and how are you Dan?
