@PinoyAkoPh Woah Woah Woah buddy Genie came out before this song in 2009. Makoma released this in 2010 as her second single. She licensed the song from SM entertainment. So please don't go saying that SNSD second handed this song when it is orginally theirs. If you think I am wrong look it up. Makoma sings the original English lyrics that were written for the song.
@tranvoz actually, Dineyra was the first to record the song, several months before Genie came out. However, I like SNSD's vocals the most, particularly the harmonizing in the last verse.
@tranvoz She didn't steal SNSD's song. This came out first, then SMentertainment bought the rights (or a music corporation did) and then they changed the theme to Tell Me Your Wish Genie. I agree the leg dance is AMAZING and the korean is cool and yes SNSD are goddesses but this song is just as amazing. Now I can finally sing somewhat of SNSD's Tell Me Your Wish without having to guess Korean words :D
This is okay but it don't make me stand up and dance & sing because I don't even understand this. ._. She wants to dance so bad she writes a song about it?
@JasminexILY this song is about dancing. it's whole point is getting you pumped to dance with it. Genie is not about dancing. like...at all. it's about being there for somebody. and stuff.
and they're both really catchy. they're basically the same song, minus the obvious difference in lyrics and how many people are singing it. O_o
I don't like how you guys are commenting on this video just to say that you guys like snsd's version better. I like both version though I don't know who this "snsd" person/group is, but still. Jeezers people!!
I am a S♥NE but this is unnecessary. You all should know that she purchased the licenses and the original English lyrics to the song. What the FUCK is the reason to all these post of how she’s a thief, copyright and she sucks. You all should know what its like to see ANTIS and haters on SNSD’s page taking shit so why are you all doing the same?? I prefer SNSD’s version yes, but I ‘m not gonna discredit Nathalie who tried and did a damn good job.
@anadunno RDR was never plagiarized. Ke$ha is a writer/composer and created the song to sell (her version is the demo). SM bought the song and redid the lyrics and gave it to SNSD.
@Nandiwashere ooh isee. now it's all clear.. my friend kept on saying SNSD plagiarized it. since he's an ANTI. i don't really understand what's the conflict between blackjacks and Sones.
@anadunno BlackJacks and S♥NES are stupid for fighting each other. Their two completely different artists in style, concepts and genres. There isn't much to compare between the two, its either you favor one or the other (Or you could like both). The problem is that SNSD and 2NE1 are considered like the US & Europe. The world's strongest teams who have an a understanding of each other yet compete w/ each other. && 21 already stated to admiring SNSD several times, IDK Y their fans getting butthurt
@Nandiwashere I never wanna bash Blackjack. So Blackjack please DO NOT BASH bash Sone and my Soshi everytime you see us! I can't understand why you enjoy doing like this!
To tell the truth, I don't like 2NE1 much but I have never said anything bad abt them if I DO NOT REALLY understand!
Please thinking carefully before you say anything abt my Soshi! I don't think 2NE1 proud of the fan who can't control what they say!!
@t0kjt0rj I'm sorry for my fellow blackjack's behavior over there. But someone is parading around in 2NE1 videos under the username "DevotedSNSDfan", trolling around, insulting our girls. This prompted us to believe that sones act this way when they do not. Some of us know better, and we ignore "DevotedSNSDfan", but some cannot take it and bash your girls too. I would like to apologize to you and your fellow fans for any insults you get from Blackjacks. I love SoShi too. Proud Sone-Jack. ^^
this version is better than snsd's. when you compare them, SNSD voice is just like a empty can, they sang, but they don't put all their soul on it, so it just an empty voice, thin voice. and this version have the soul, it's not an empty voice. please don't be a delusional fans(defending all snsd do), when you hear music your ear can't lie, which song is flat, empty, just a song, which one a good song, i'm a sone, i love them but, sorry to say, this one own snsd sowoneul malebhwa.
even i'm a sone... i'm still gonna say this version is better. the reason is, because the beat is more intensive. and also the rhythm in this song is much more suitable for clubbing type, like 'i just wanna dance' rather than 'tell me your wish'. but both are good, can't deny both are good match. just that i prefer this version! except she didn't sing high notes like taeyeon =/
guuuys! she's NOT copying SNSD! she just bought the rights to the song (the same SM did) and put in the lyrics for what she wanted to sing. Please stop bashing this poor girl
i adore the korean version, but lets not come here to compare
@MrPerti8 i agree.. omg ! again and again.. same excuse again? like RDR.. people say Kesha bought their album.. Kesha this.. Kesha that ! Now its Genie? But SNSD's Genie was released first !
@TheYamada98 Yes, Genie was released first, BUT..this is a recorded version of the original ENGLISH DEMO which SM bought, and then made into Genie. SNSD did an original Genie recording with, an extra Jessica ad-lib, and 'I Just Wanna Wish' sang in the second ch...they're both good songs, so really. Who cares? There is a new version with a guy rapping and completely different english lyrics sung, so I guess people will lose their shit over that too..
SMH at people acting brand new like SNSD were the first to even record this song? This is just yet another version in a diff lang-so far this song has been recorded in 4 languages. SNSD have a better presentation and the Korean lyrics are less superficial thats why it comes over better than Nat's song which is just a fun club song. You stans need to get over yourselves, SNSD don't even write their own songs. Doesnt stop them from being a great group though.
Depending on what you like, you'll have different opinions on whether SNSD's Genie is better or not. If you prefer songs that you can't understand but like the tune, Genie is better for you. And if you don't like the culture portrayed in this video, Genie is better for you as well.
ok guys everyone is entitled to their own opinion as long as they don't go criticising either version its fine with me. this version of genie is not too bad but i just like SNSD more because im a loyal sone and their harmonizing of the whole song is great.
@CuddlyJJ i am an avid fan of both versions of this song...but, uh, this version is like, 5x more groovy and danceable. O__o it's got a heavier beat to it.
lol at the start I was like "wait...I know this song...but I can't put my finger on it...." and then the chorus came up and I was like "YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS"

SNSD or Nathalie, both are absolutely superb. Obviously they both have their pros and cons, though I can't think of any for SNSD's >_>, but anyhow...the only thing that raelly bothers me about Nathalie's video is her hair but that is a reeeeeally minor issue.
first "I Just Wanna Dance", then it changed to "Just Wanna Wish"(First version of Korean song for snsd) but then changed again to "Tell Me Your Wish"(Final Korean Version) Right????
"On May 19, 2010 Dutch singer Nathalie Makoma released her second single named "I Just Wanna Dance",[28] which is a LICENSED VERSION of Girls' Generation's Genie. Nathalie sings the original English lyrics that were written for the song."
Kpop fans need to grow up. Not everyone copies their beloved groups. Music rights are always being sold etc. They really should do their homework before they accuse.
Original or not, copycat or not, this girl owns this song down right into the melody. I like this version and SNSD's version. It doesn't matter who copied who or who came first, it matters more on the music, right? I like it, it's as catchy as Tell me your wish. She doesn't deserve hate because some S♥NEs believe that SNSD came first. But who cares? The music should care, and this version isn't bad at all. It's awesome <3
Genie MV added in February 2010, this was put on Youtube in June, and SNSD copied her? You guys have mental problems if you don't know that February comes first, just saying.
The vocals here is much better but you can still feel SNSD's version because of their dance routine...
I like both versions... Even we say that they already did this or that it already happened, we cannot do anything about it.. They cannot remove it just like nothing happened... Let's just hope people should learn their lessons...
i find both of their version nice in their own way..lol...it kinda reminds me more of the guide vers. of tell me your wish...i just wanna wish
and JFYI snsd did not copy the song...tell me your wish was release first in 2009...and this was release only in 2010...pls dun say anything bout snsd copying the song or watsoeva not before even getting the facts rite...
What...? How can Genie be a copy of this song? Clearly all you people claiming its a copy don't know how to do simple math. This song was released in 2010... Genie in 2009. I hardly see how Genie is a copy. Both are licensed and neither is a copy of another. Do some research before you open your mouth to bash someone.
SNSD got this first.. then it was illegally released by that(?) Uzbek singer.... until end of 2010, this girl released it legally... whatever it is, its SNSd's first....
from allkpop -- " SNSD’s Tell Me Your Wish was illegally released by Uzbek singer Dineyra (Raqsga Tushgin) without proper permission from Universal Music, then separately released (as the licensed version) by Dutch singer Nathalie Makoma (I Just Wanna Dance) last year with the original English lyrics" --- so originally it was still by SNSD, this version is the remade version?
Now the line,"DJ put it back on" makes sense. I love Genie by snsd. It's my favorite among snsd's songs but I can't get the connection between the line with DJ and a genie. Thanks for this song, all is clear. To SME, hire more producers, please and thank you.=D
wat's goin on wif sm entertainment? y almost every song of its artist hav to share wif others? y cant it produce a song dat is juz fr its artist instead of buying here n thr? disappointed... :(
wooowwww i just wanna danceee (8) i dooo wanna dance nowww!! i like Genie but IJWD is amazingggg wanna go clubbing :) even when its the same beat the 2 versions are totally different!
i think, sometimes, it's just a shame for this artists to release songs then not recognized that well. and then here comes kpop artists buying the songs, change it a lil bit then comes into a BIG hit. if im nathalie, then i would be really disappointed. just like kesha's run devil run..

who copied the original track? SNSD or NATHALIE MAKOMA?
anadunno 8 months ago
@anadunno The track belongs to SM's SNSD.
1. Dineyra (Uzbek singer) had plagiarized it (She didn't obtain the permission from Universal Music).
2. Nathalie (Dutch singer) bought a licensed version the original song (meaning the english translation) and thus it was released.
3. C.J. Lewis (British singer) got the permission and created his own english version of the song (to support SNSD's 1st Japan album).

"On May 19, 2010 Dutch singer Nathalie Makoma released her second single named "I Just Wanna Dance",[28] which is a LICENSED VERSION of Girls' Generation's Genie. Nathalie sings the original English lyrics that were written for the song."
It's on Wikipedia ;)

Kpop fans need to grow up. Not everyone copies their beloved groups. Music rights are always being sold etc. They really should do their homework before they accuse.

damn!!
just stop with the f*king date comparison~
It's fact that SM didn't produce the song~
just accept it!

whatever.. both snsd AND nathalie bought the rights for this original song. NO ONE is copying anything.

SNSD Genie (2009)
This song was released in 2010...
look it up..

SNSDAE2 8 months ago
@SNSDAE2 -Some videos on Youtube are uploaded AFTER it's first released.
The song could've been released earlier than June and the person who uploaded this uploaded it days later.

The vocals here is much better but you can still feel SNSD's version because of their dance routine...
I like both versions... Even we say that they already did this or that it already happened, we cannot do anything about it.. They cannot remove it just like nothing happened... Let's just hope people should learn their lessons...

Doesn't matter who copy who~ It's fact that SM didn't produce the song~
to think that its their original~ damn~
just enjoy the vids~

i find both of their version nice in their own way..lol...it kinda reminds me more of the guide vers. of tell me your wish...i just wanna wish
and JFYI snsd did not copy the song...tell me your wish was release first in 2009...and this was release only in 2010...pls dun say anything bout snsd copying the song or watsoeva not before even getting the facts rite...

What...? How can Genie be a copy of this song? Clearly all you people claiming its a copy don't know how to do simple math. This song was released in 2010... Genie in 2009. I hardly see how Genie is a copy. Both are licensed and neither is a copy of another. Do some research before you open your mouth to bash someone.

anyways this was released in 2010.. Tell me your wish was released in 2009 so no way SME copied this
reydar88 8 months ago
from allkpop -- " SNSD’s Tell Me Your Wish was illegally released by Uzbek singer Dineyra (Raqsga Tushgin) without proper permission from Universal Music, then separately released (as the licensed version) by Dutch singer Nathalie Makoma (I Just Wanna Dance) last year with the original English lyrics" --- so originally it was still by SNSD, this version is the remade version?

Now the line,"DJ put it back on" makes sense. I love Genie by snsd. It's my favorite among snsd's songs but I can't get the connection between the line with DJ and a genie. Thanks for this song, all is clear. To SME, hire more producers, please and thank you.=D

i think, sometimes, it's just a shame for this artists to release songs then not recognized that well. and then here comes kpop artists buying the songs, change it a lil bit then comes into a BIG hit. if im nathalie, then i would be really disappointed. just like kesha's run devil run..
