almost ten years ago i told my buddy that i thought there was a song that sounded like bartender or dont drink the water. he said no such song existed as i tried to find it i never could. now nearly ten years later i found my favorite song. thank you dmb
The guitar parts of DDTW and Bartender are both a little similar (I play both of them) and are both in drop D tuning as people have said. And this was the early version of DDTW. jbdmb is right that it turned into "leave me praying" then that turned into DDTW.
Its awesome to see how DMB songs develop...even from studio to live. They never cease to amaze me :)
From a guitar standpoint, it's more similar to Bartender. At about 2:10 he plays the chorus to what is now Bartender exactly like he still does, only with the singing in the tune of DDTW. At least that's what it sounds like to me.
True, but I was mainly referring to all the people who say it sounds like bartender also :) This is basically early DDTW, indeed. Especially that part "Yes I will call this hoooome" from ddtw, it's the same, exactly.
Certainly more than a little bit of bartender in the guitar of this one. I do hear the LMP and the vocals are absolutley a precursor to DDTW. It's amazing to see the eptimology of several songs through just this one rare post. Thanks again fan1026

@KnoccAniggaOut60 That's not the date of this recording. Dave played this during D&T shows in the late 90's.

DDTW, Bartender, and this one are all in drop D. That's why they sound so alike. They are all amazing songs. Dave Matthews Band!!!!!!
Somuchtoplay 2 years ago
that and the fact that ddtw has the same exact chord progression
