@JustJano91 My route on this trip was to go up to Sandstone Peak where I enjoyed a nice view, I then took the Mishe Mokwa Loop back to the parking lot. Google the Circle X Ranger Station in Malibu. They have trail maps available. The trailhead is about a mile up the road. If you are coming from Oxnard, take PCH to Yerba Buena Road. Yerba Buena Road will take you to the ranger station where you can stop and ask for a map and direction. The trailhead is a mile or so up the road on the lft.
@JustJano91 If you are coming from Thousand Oaks, take Decker Canyon Road (23) to Mullholland Highway WEST. You will see Mullholland Highway EAST but don't take that route - it goes towards L.A. Take Mullholland Highway West to Little Sycamore Canyon, make a right on Little Sycamore. Little Sycamore merges into Yerba Buena Road. You will see 2 trailheads. Stop at the 2nd trailhead. Again, you can go a little farther to the ranger station for a map. This is the best hike in Malibu.
God i watch these vidoes and all i want to do is drop what im doing and go Hikeing HaHa . . Another excellent video my friend keep inspiring people to enjoy the Great Outdoors
@BDogs15 Thanks for the compliment. I've been staring up at my local mountains (those higher than Malibu) and I'm seeing snow everywhere. My next investment may be some snow shoes. Never done that type of hiking. Should be fine with the GPS and my heavier gear. Yes!
@enjoythewildUSA Funny you mention the snow went up the 33 this sunday with my grandfather during that cold front that passed through and the snow level was at about 2500 feet. Alot of snow almost got white out conditons near wolfsgrill just passed Cherry creek. I would deffinatly gear up well for those snow excursions. Best wishes for safe hike!!!!
@BDogs15 Heavy now at at Cherry Creek...wow. that's pretty low. You typically don't see that type of snow until you hit Pine Mountain. I snow wheel in my Jeep in the winter over near Mt. Pinos. That's a great place to go just off of I-5. My Jeep's not trail ready after the abuse I put it through during hunting season so I'll probably pass this year.
@BDogs15 The Jet Boil is fantastic. Now and then the starter will burn out. That's why you see my firing mine up with a fire steel. You also can't beat it for the weight. I use freeze dried meals and then boil water for coffee and tea so its perfect for me. You won't like it if you prefer to cook meals with frying pans and larger pots. It boils fast, its efficient with fuel and it is light for what it does. I think you'll love it. A few of my buddies bought one after using mine.
@BigEsBushcraft Thanks for the nice compliment. I just want to motivate others to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. Happy New Year to you! I look forward to following your adventures on "the tube."
I like the shot of the ice @ :50, and the Crow taking off was Great. It's funny I will see these winter weather warnings and it will name all ranges of mountains down here but it will exclude the Santa Monica mountains most times.
@davidsquall351 Most of the time that I'm on that trail I'm half way to dehydration. You know how hot and dry it can get if you push out for a long hike. It was weird hiking over crackling ice while wearing a beanie and a sweatshirt. Very cool.
Such a nice hike, been there a few times to surf but never hiking, I aways said to myself, t as I was driving past Peperdine University, those mountains would be great to hike. Well Now I know its true. Maybe you will get lucky and have a bit of snow!
@ihikearoundcom That spot is just a few miles past Pepperdine. Run a Google Search on the Circle X Ranch ranger station. Near the Circle X you'll find the Sandstone Peak Trail which links up with the Backbone Trail. I jumped this on the trail to Sandstone Peak.
Man I did not look at the time on this video. I just settled down to watch a great video and then it ended. What? I was starting to really enjoy it ... music was great ... and then boom. Done!
Awesome. What a way to enjoy a hot beverage. Thanks!

It takes about 2 hrs and 15 minutes to do the loop. I always stop and eat my lunch and take in the views, however. Have a great time friend!
