There are laws and legal precedence protecting us from cops, so before you start preaching about how we just have to let cops do whatever they want to us, I suggest you learn the actual rules. They have a code that they are required to follow. If they break that code, it becomes assault and battery, which can be fought physically.

It's sad to see our cops reduced to being taxpayer funded sidewalk cleaners. They should be re-directed to their normal use: raiding houses, killing family pets, and looking for brown people to arrest for possessing plants.
After the channel 9 news crew left, the cops decided that since people were still "standing around", they were a mob. They decided that people standing on the sidewalk, rather than walking, were committing a crime.

At the same time, the people on the sidewalk across from the station were being chased away because they were standing, not walking, and therefore committing a criminal offense.

This video shows only the tail end of the protest. Many protesters had already gone home, and the rest were preparing to disperse. An hour or so earlier, we had many more protesters and signs that were strategically placed. At this point in the protest, people weren't really thinking about public outreach; we were more concerned with what to do about our caged friends.
@RidleyReport, Great critique on the placement of signs. That said, I think it's somewhat important to note that this was when the protest was dying down. The number of people around, the ability to place and spread signs was a bit diminished. Seeing your video, I really wish I could have been there to help out. By then, activists were being picked off, not focusing on getting the most positive reactions from the people around us.
It wouldn't be necessary to chalk if the MPD administration would just put up accurate signage like "PIG HOTEL" or "Assylum for the Criminally Negligent" or "Constitution-Free Zone" or "Police-State Inside" and so on.

This whole video/audio tape fiasco pisses me off. People should be able to video audio tape police when the following three rules are followed:
1) The officer is in a place where they have no expectation of privacy (ie public place).
2) The videographer is filming from somewhere they have a legal right to be.
3) The taping does not interfere with the officer's duties.

Standing on the sidewalk.
After the channel 9 news crew left, the cops decided that since people were still "standing around", they were a mob. They decided that people standing on the sidewalk, rather than walking, were committing a crime.
Another excuse was, "This is a crime scene" (the chalk) and anyone on the sidewalk was therefore interfering with the investigation of a crime.

At the same time, the people on the sidewalk across from the station were being chased away because they were standing, not walking, and therefore committing a criminal offense.
It would be interesting to find in the statute book just how many people "standing on the sidewalk" constitute a "mob" and are therefore committing a crime by standing.

This video shows only the tail end of the protest. Many protesters had already gone home, and the rest were preparing to disperse. An hour or so earlier, we had many more protesters and signs that were strategically placed. At this point in the protest, people weren't really thinking about public outreach; we were more concerned with what to do about our caged friends.

The number of people around, the ability to place and spread signs was a bit diminished. Seeing your video, I really wish I could have been there to help out. By then, activists were being picked off, not focusing on getting the most positive reactions from the people around us.
