@BlackTeddies True, and if you had read the first line of my video description, you would have known that without even having to open this video file.
OMG! I haven't heard this in decades. I went to a Catholic School which made a better singer (I believe). We sang all the time in those days and this was one of those hymns. Our teacher taught us the descant during the verses for those of us who could sing that high. I still remember it and although my voice cracks, I can harmonize along with your voice. Thank you for posting--you took me back to the best years of my life when I was in EL/Jr. High School. Best wishes!
Thanx for your enlightenment guitmartiman! I first heard this song 40 years ago in middle school which was a Christian School (a continent away from your world). We used to sing it during the Christian Rally camps.
Until now I had no idea who the composer was. I appreciate your sharing.
I love this song! Iam trying to learn it without any prior gutair practice i mean i just learned the notes today. I get stuck on the transition from c to d, and then d to c. Anyway this my favriote song!
I remember hearing this song at guitar mass when I was a kid. I'm not a believer, but I remembered liking the song and so came looking for it on YouTube. Thank you!
THANK YOU! 1ST TIME I HAVE HEARD THIS!!I became a Christian in 71 while on lsd and loved the songs from the artists/groups from the West Coast...being from Georgia my love for this music was not shared much!!:) I found GOD did not change my musical tastes!!I asked HIM for music I could worship too and I got LARRY NORMAN,LOVE SONG[MY FAV!!}, ANDREA CROUCH AND THE DICIPLES,The MARANATHA ALBUMS[WHICH I STILL HAVE} plus many more!!
I am no longer a protestant but.... I was an exchange student in California in the early '80's and I sang this song at a presbyterian church. There are several more songs from that time that I cannot unearth from anywhere.
We used to sing this and other songs at a Presbyterian Church in SoCal as well as a Presbyterian Church Camp near Yosemite ... Except, we sang the song with a more upbeat tempo :-)
It is an upbeat song and you added to it. Interesting comments about guitars and religion. I sometimes think music is a religion in itself. It advocates harmony, spirit, self-faith, hope and community. Guess my present church is Youtube!
Thanks to Otis (hankwilliams1924) for sharing this
@geoff1945 I happen to believe that music is a language all its own. Even people who cannot speak well or even at all can many times sing because music is handled by a different part of the brain than is speech. Music is a very powerful motivator which can be used for good or ill. I would not intentionally make music my religion, but it would be far more difficult for me to express my faith without it!
I love this song it really speaks to me I remember singing this at Bible camp and in my youth group. Thank you for uploading it you do an amazing job with this song.
Hundreds of thousands of us spent years singing this song nearly every week in the 60s, 70s and 80s, and I believe it was an important reflection of faith for many, many people. By sharing the song, you also are enabling me and perhaps others to recall our faith. Thank you for sharing. Great rendition, by the way! Peace.
@carlosspeck That's right. This song was a staple of church youth group sing alongs in the 60s 70s and 80s. We sang this in our high school/college age youth choir at a Lutheran church in the 80s.
Kudos, sir. My mother & friends of hers have been playing folk mass since the 60's when it all started. I joined their group in the 90's. I have moved away but they are still together! It is on songs like this and those from the "Glory and Praise" series that I grew my callouses.
Songs from that time still bring tears for me. Thank you for this. G&P and similar style songs are the best IMO and you got this one right.
Thanks for posting this. It brings back good memories of the folk mass at church in the 70s. People should check out those songs because they can be really cool. They need some good PR, because there is so much garbage out there that is called music.
I don't know. The fact that u "stopped being religious" may have more 2 do with the fact that you were 13 than that u played guitar in a folk mass. I have no way of knowing though, especially since I don't know any more of the details of your life at that point. 13 was a hard year 4 me. I went 2 juvenile hall for burglary shortly after I "got saved" at a Baptist church. Adolescence is a strange & contradictory time in 1's life when any number of things can happen 4 no apparent reason.
@guitmartiman Wow I really love this song!! Thank for you rendititon and for posting it. Those word are so perfect. I was first introduced to this as a pre-teen in the 70s in the Catholic church. I am a strong believer and follower of our awesome Lord and Messiah, but I attend a non-donominational church now. I have been looking all over for this song. I subscribed to your channel as well..thx God ?Bless
I too used to sing the song when I was in the 3rd grade. It has a rich appeal to it and it is the truth. I am posting it to my FB on Resurrection Day.
I was looking for this song to use in my Easter sermon...didn't think anyone would remember it! We sang it with the hand clapping (back in the 70;s). Thanks for posting your offering.
I know! That's one of the reasons I recorded it! I was surprised it hadn't been done by many people already! I learned this song before I was "religious" too! It's a great song!
We used to sing this song in church when I was 5 years old and I haven't heard it since until now. It is such a powerful song that I have never forgotten it, now 34 years later. Thank you for singing this so beautifully! God bless you!
Thankyou Jack, a blessed gift this easter season. May it be special for you and your family surrounded in HIS love. Praise the LORD HE is RISEN. Be blessed....Diane. 5*****

I *LOVE* this song! Ray Repp actually wrote some other great songs.
I also like the way many Catholic songs have God/ Jesus speaking to us in the first person. Makes worship much more personal that way.
(Old John Michael Talbot songs have that quality, too!)
