This is just marvelous. Way back in the 1950's my gran played the organ at our Welbeck Road City Mission, I had the job of working the bellows for it.
I'd have to go some to keep the Conacher Organ in full flow I'm sure.
This hymn reminds me of our youth choir at the Methodist Church that I grew up in. We were only young teens, but sang full four-part harmony. I learned more about vocal music in church than I did in high school. Every time I hear this song I think of those wonderful days in choir at church. And very honestly I can't sing this hymn in church nowadays without breaking up. It has such special meaning to me. Thank you for posting it.
@winchesterick This tune (Royal Oak) seems to be used much more in the south of England. The other tune (Bright and Beautiful) is more usual in other areas!
I am not a professional musician, however I have had a lot of experience listening from the pew, and singing in the choir, and I must say that this is the best rendition of "Royal Oak" that I have heard over the past 20 years!
The vigor of your performance is especially appreciated, as most of the time I have heard this hymn the organist insists on slowing down the tempo which spoils the tune.
BTW across the pond "Royal Oak" is the "first tune" :-)
Although there is a choir version. Which isnt in any of my books !!
CMP is a great hymnal !!
Great playing to !! ~ now why havent i got one of those organs in the flat :/ ~ Anyway I just live north of Cardiff :) .. surprised your in Swansea hehe

You tend not to hear this tune so much any more. This is the tune I always remember from being a child. Good to hear it again.
