It looks pretty fake, I've seen a few reels smoke and heat up but never catch fire. I have even seen a reel break something inside and the spool flew off taking all of the rod guides with it. One thing that the Mythbusters forgot about is that fishing reels usually heat up like that not just from one pull of the line but do so after 45-60 minutes of drag going out, reeling in, drag going out, and reeling in again. This repeated action really loads up the heat on the drag washers.

Oops, they called it busted. To me it looked a bit odd that a fire right next to bare skin causes not the slightest bit of reaction. It should.
