  • Mark Lenard was one of Trek's most underrated actors. Like Patrick Stewart, he was classically trained, had decades of film, theater and television experience behind him and could provide an emotional performance just as easy as if he was eating a cheese sandwich. The man had POWER, STYLE, TALENT and left this world way too soon. He played multiple roles in his career but I will never read about, see or hear about Sarek without thinking about Mark. RIP you wise old man, live long and prosper.

  • Mark Lenard was my dad's friend in college where they acted on stage together. I fondly remember this as the most moving performance I've ever seen on Star Trek. Me and my dad watched it together. I actually cried.

  • How nice is to see Sarek again, an old friend. The father of great Spock :)

  • it is illogical, illoggicall, illooggicallll

  • "So human"

  • This makes me want to cry. Poor Sarek!

    ;(

  • @normviewer Yes it is so sad. I have read a few novels about Sarek since seeing this episode and gotten close to the character. In one of the novels the storyline is that the disease he has is not a natural disease but a condition that has been induced by being continually poisoned over years by an adversary. So his condition is not natural at all.

  • Picard's luck he didn't rip his cold bitter(mechanical) heart out in his crazy frenzy. Everyone forgets how strong Vulcans are.

  • Daaaaaaamn!

  • Why are Sarek's ears rounded? I've always seen him with pointed ears...

  • lol I wonder if people watching this ever watched Star Trek.Sarek was NOT being a bitter old man!HE's suffering from an incurable disease that affects his mind and ability to control his emotions,he's got over 200 years of suppressed feeling pouring out of him.And all he wants to do is finish this mission and bring peace to a war torn world. And Vulcan's are ALL closet Psycopaths, paranoid, angry, passionate people, yet they master their emotions,THAT is the ENTIRE point and their Beauty.

  • bendi syndrome lol

  • Ok sorry incurable Syndrome, not Disease.

  • A good point very well made - it's not a lack of emotions it's a control of very deep emotions and this is a Vulcan trying to cope with their version of Alzheimer's. I thought this story was so well done and very moving. Mark Lenard was a great actor.

  • sounds like pon farr

  • Guys, Sarek was suffering from Bendii Syndrome, a Vulcan disease that causes a Vulcan to lose emotional control. Don't be so hard on the man.

  • La cagó esta escena.. es un clásico

  • Another example of TNG butchering the characters TOS made great, beloved and compelling. Gone is the mystery and majesty that made Vulcans great characters.

  • Sarek was sick with a terminal illness. All creatures experience disease. Quite compelling to see a Vulcan deteriorate if you ask me.

  • This guy played Urko in Planet of the Apes, he's great but dead now.

  • Mark Lenard was the actor. It was such a shock to see him blow his cool after all the times we saw him as the totally in control Sarek. The scene still grabs you after 15 years.

  • I know how he feels, I get really angry and embarrased if anyone even thinks i'm crying over something, and i'm a girl so you can image how serak felt :)

  • Wow, who knew Sarek had it in him? He looked like a normal old man, but apparently he's a raging psycopath.

  • Me thinks all Vulcans are in the closet raging psycopaths.

  • How true, us dudes do get upset when another dude finds us crying. I remember when my friend found me crying, and how illogical it all felt.

  • But it's even MORE embarassing for a Vulcan!
