@anewzack78 - Well, you can, its called a Top Swap, but it is a higher compression head, and because of that more supporting mods are needed over a standard L67 swap. Otherwise you run in to KR and pinging... But the stock pulley gives you more power in an L36 than an L67 because the compression is higher and therefore the same amount of boost on a higher compression motor yields more power, but at the cost of some reliability.
I need more power for my 96 grand prix se... I see alot of people do the swap but not with the 96 us there a reason for this? Could I do the swap? I found a nice used L67 motor with only 16,000 miles on it for a very good price please help I want to go fast agian. Thanks for your time.
did you buy that engine new it looks very clean i love it i have a 3800 series 2 non superhraged in my monte carlo z34 i want a supercharger how do i install it though i cant find any videos or information on it is it hard i have some mechanical skill but im a novice no pro lol
That is probably the best option. You need to beef up your 4t65e or swap it for a 4t65e-hd and beef up your lower end if you plan on modifying it substantially.
There's alot that you have to do. You can do it, it'll take a couple days since your a novice as so am i, but it'll be awhile. PM me for a site for 3800 NA upgrades.
Also, join the Montecarloforums (search on google) We help anyone that has problems, questions, concerns and anything about a monte carlo. My name on there is the same as my name for YouTube.
Yes, I believe you can but there are some TB clearance issues, but I believe its possible. Check some F-Body forums, they might be able to point you in the right direction
Complete L67 Swap, The L36 conversion would have been too expensive for me, and the deal I got on this engine was so worth it, So I have no complaints =]
clubgp of ohio type clubgp in on utube and look at the IDD8 clip the white turbo with the ram air hood is mine tell me if you can keep up? but in all fainess its nasty fast
so what did you do really, pretty much just swapped the engine and pcm from a gtp and called it good? didnt have to screw a new fuel pump and the gauges?
I actually did a direct swap. There is a lot more involved than just the PCM and the FP and dash. I had to get a new harness, and a had to retrofit a slew of items, I can't think of it all right now. But it was definitely worth it.
you know you cant just swap the 3800 non supercharged tranny isnt as built as the supercharged motor your just going to shred your tranny. Good luck with that. and im a member of a 3800 club so i know what im talking about
Um read the description or ask me what I did. Geez... It's a 4t65e HD transmission from a Geeeeeeee Tuh-eeeeeeee Puh-eeeeeeeeeeee
Thank you very much, obviously I am smart enough to do the swap so don;t you think I figured out all of the issues I needed to overcome before I did it? It's not like I paid someone to do it for me, all ME... I know everything that came out and went in. I've owned the car for 4 years...
Which 3800 Club? I am a member of TAGPC, Tornado Alley Grand Prix Club.
Great job! I have a 1998 Lumina LS 3.1 that won't shift into second until i let off the gas slowly. It'll rev until basically blowing something unless i let off the gas slowly. THEN it'll shift into second with a forceful jerk. I've called shops saying it's my clutches giving out and it'll cost me $2500 to fix. But I'm wondering if you had any suggestions. Any help would be appriciated.
the m90 that got showed in this video is off of a 3800 thunderbird supercoupe
ERIC933G 8 months ago
@ERIC933G - Yup. It's an Eaton unit used on many many vehicles.
ponchochan 7 months ago
@ponchochan yup but a different style it wouldn't work on a gtp engine.
ERIC933G 7 months ago
@ERIC933G - The chassis of the m90 is unchanged, just the throttle body mounted to it.

just order a top swap from ZZperformance and send your computer to them for tuning.

kreigsmann 3 years ago
The M90 is the model of supercharger that comes attached to the L67
ponchochan 3 years ago
but before GM had it, Ford had the M90 on their Thunderbird SC. That is another fun little V6.
andyth0mps0n 3 years ago
its true... i wish that ford could have had a 3.8 as good as the GM. I love the T-Birds too.
ponchochan 3 years ago
they have aluminum heads... hence the big problem with the added pressure of boost.
andyth0mps0n 3 years ago
ummmm ok :/
