Iceland won't get into the EU. If they don't agree to reimburse citizens of the UK and Netherlands money which went down with there dodgy banks then the UK and Holland will block the bid and they will be screwed.
If there are people out there who think they have faith in centralization of power , they don´t deserve to get something that is earned and which one is never born with and that is human rights.
If I was a shop owner I´d want to know whom I am doing bussiness with among those who enter my shop. It´s my shop , and it´s my bussiness.
If the Icelandic people stay out of the Euro system they are the lucky ones. At least they still have a say in their own society and are not ruled by a gaggle of self interested and self serving elitists who impose on and decide the daily life of people of they know nothing about, social structures and cultural differences of countries they have never lived in.
I am just an outsider looking at all of this and I question the timing of this vote; in other words, why now? Why haven't they done this before their economy went down the drain?
Now, I am not suggesting that they shouldn't be doing what they're doing here; It's just that, on the face of it, this all looks a bit "suspicious".
Still, whatever the people of Iceland choose to do, I wish them the best of luck; they'll need it.
Iceland wants to join the EU because the economic crisis (that was created by greedy capitalism in the U.S.) destroyed the Icelandic economy and joining the EU will help restore it.
The greed was everywhere, including Iceland; perhaps not on such a mammoth scale as that seen in the U.S., but it certainly was there in Iceland nonetheless.
Just as there was inexcusable oversight in the U.S., U.K. and elsewhere, there are reports that the FME in Iceland got careless; I have no reason to doubt the validity of those reports.
Now Iceland has no choice but to join the EU (which by the look on people's faces, they don't want to) to repay their incurred debts. It's a real shame.
I have a feeling your economy was mainly devastated by Icelandic greedy capitalism.
Can't go into global financing, lending and borrowing horrendous sums with an economy of 300.000 "villagers" to back this up.
The US may have a lot of debts but also have an economy of over 300.000.000 people to back this up. They are a blue whale with difficulties whereas you were a sardine pretending to be a blue whale.
Iceland are screwed financially. It makes perfect sense for them to join the EU and benefit from the safety net afforded by the European Central Bank. Ireland would be in a similar position to Iceland were it not for the fact that Ireland is a full member of both the EU and the Euro.
Well done Iceland for applying to the EU. They will help you recover from the current crisis you find yourselves in.
I would strongly dispute your assertion that "Ireland is still in one piece because they haven't got so many greedy ass bankers as the rest of europe". This is a complete mis-reading of the actual situation obtaining in Ireland.
don't join!!!! EU is the world's largest corporation made for fucking capitalists. They suck each and every member dry. Then they buttrape each other in the evenings. (the leaders so to speak..)

Rubish, you dont know what are you talking about. First of all, mr. Prodi with European socialist take all this bureaucracy into EU.
Second EU its overregulated, third EU Comunist Economic Politics like production quotes its collapsing our economy.
Most important of all, we cannot take independent decision without treath of retaliations and fines by Soviet European Union. We cannot do economic aid to help economy etc. So EU go to hell.

first I'd be fascinated to know how Mr Prodi and his leftist ilk took and implemented their ideals in the EU considering the Parliament and majority of countries have right of center leadership.
second, yes it is overregulated in areas, work has been done to clear it up, such as the highly visible rules on the quality of fruit and veg, the whole bendy banana fiasco,
3rd, Independent action?, I assume you mean trade and economics wise?....my lord huge shock their are rules for trading, you sign the same deals out side the EU has in it, it's to keep the field level
, why is it Germany can be the largest exporter in the World (not China, not the US, not Japan) under the same rules, why is Sweden, Austria, Finland ect all huge exporters, while Italy isn't (at least not like she should be) It's her own internal inadequacies that hold you back, you have a strong industrial North and a barly above subsistence South, who's fault is that?
You have a Prime minister who wields unprecedented power both politically and business wise (as well as other areas)

maybe it is at fault for some, but Italy has been like this since before the EU came about, I don't think your trains worked too well back in the Day, did they? everyone thiks their country had some glorious golden age before some even, in your case the EU's arrival, I have news for you, it's wasn't too golden, neither for yours mine or anyones (and no I don't mean the EU is a bastion of a golden era, jus that non one had that time
I know Russia is too big for Russia too , thats why they walk with in some aspects 50 years behind, seen from our multicultural super infrastructure capitalist society. Even worse is Iceland they are so poor and have a bad reputation due to the Isafe bank who stole many countrys money. Why would the EU want partnership with Iceland?
no i think the Russian have the right to keep their culture, we in the West have become selfish individualist because we were infused with too much american culture for 60 years.
The Russians suffered under bolshevism, and they are trying to get their confidence back.
As for Iceland, they should have stayed alone and keep themselve as they are, they will not be happy to live under EU rules.
Norway and Swistzerland have to "live under the EU;s rules" and they are not members, they are in the silly position of paying into the budget while getting no say in it's spending, and adopting internal market ruels with no say in their drafting.
ah, no to russia. So there is limits to how much the dictatorship wants to control. Do you speak for the EU masters? "Welcome amoung us"... yes welcome to the post democratic age, and welcome to the dictatorship. Hope you enjoyed your freedom.
The people of Europe working closely together is a good thing. The EU is NOT.
bankrupcy state isnt so worse as EU corrupted bank propaganda say... its just force the nation to use their real resources without any doing of more debts.
With or without bankroupt its time to learn this and stopping doing more and more debts... we must learn to better use our own resources.
Im italian and EU membership had nearly collapsed our industry already weaked from China etc.
A sad day for Island. Go out from WTO and you will save yourself, you dont need EU corruption...
Rubbish, EU membership has nothing to do with the state of Italian industry, some of which is thriving ship building ect, some which is not.
Italy has a level of Bureaucracy and red tape that would confound and baffle Jesus, that is the economy killer, look at Japan, they are hidebound in regulation and formulation, everything that needs doing has to run through 100 commitees and departments.
Indeed. uncontrolled capitalism will destroy democracy. Too much power in the hands of the few. Greed and debt is causing the collapse of our societies. Not to worry, if they just hold it together long enough we will have lost all our power, democracy will be dead. Then THEY dont have to worry about how skint we are, because we have no control over the politicians once the EU takes control.
Yeah but this is NOT Capitalism. This is corporativism, inflationism and big governement. THIS IS NOT CAPITALISM OF FREE MARKET: We dont have Capitalism in the world today, no true free market, but just corporativism.
So first the "Neo Roman Empire" bankers stole their wealth and now they use that crime to convince a drowsy parliament to join the fascist EU project.
The Irish fishing industry has paid for our membership of the EU, and we estimate that European vessels have taken up to €200 billion worth of fish out of our waters over the last 35 years of membership,
Dont worry, one they have your democracy and freedom you will not be permited to complain, after all it is illegal to critisize your EU masters already. If Ireland falls for the Lisbon Con, our countries are all finnished. The Eu will move in, and protesors will be shot. The last battle of Britain has passed and we didnt even fight. Now our hands are in Irelands. Democracy and freedom for the people of Europe lies in the hands of the Irish! Lets just hope they do the right thing!!!!!!!!!!
The crimes are sedition and treason. The first evidence i have seen dates back to the late 60's early 70's, where the Heath governement with the assistance of Norman Reddaway deceived the Brittish people and colluded with foreigners to subvert our constitution.
Steven, how can it be sedition when the British public voted for it (yes I know there is the whole "it was only supposed to be a trade thing) argument, but that's silly, the political outline for the whole thing was laid out before it was even started.
Up to 90 per cent of fish caught by Irish boats is being exported. Fish prices have halved in the last twelve months, while we import cheap fish from all over the world. These imports are putting huge pressure on Irish fishermen, while fish sold in the shops is still expensive,
Stupid video. If Iceland wants to join the eu, they will have to give up their fishing waters. Hopefully they will change their mind and forget the eu.
Icelanders, remember these people. They are the ones that sold your freedom and democracy. Just like the Heath governement in the UK during the 70's. Traitors, I wouldnt be supprised if they were bought off.
Waht is worse, bankrupcy or selling your people to a dictatorship? I would take the bankrupcy and even starvation before i surrendered to the 4thReich. Unfortunately the UK traiterous politicians have taken it upon themselves to hand over the UK. These traitors should be taken to the hague, not Brussels!
4th reich? LOL, I always find it amusing amongest the little Englanders that the EU can be on one hand the most incompetent thing known to man, and on the other at the same time be the mot devious efficent oraganisation ever, virtually Bond villian like in it's planning and execution.
IMHO it's a semi decently functioning supranational entity.
On what facts do you base your opinions? The EU has no respect for democracy. It was funded initially by the CIA. It is a dictatorship, that will return people to living under the supreme right. The supremem right of kings is being replace by the supreme right of politicians.
Would you alos have appeased Hitler, and claimed his power grab was "semi decent". If you have based you opinion on facts and research i would like to discuss, otherwise your opinion counts for little.
People seem to invoke the "CIA" like it's some sort of argument winning acronym, a villian of such magnitude that to in any way not denonuce it is evil.....the CIA is just another Government agency, they just happen to be in the intelligence game.....I'm sure they'll be along shortly to waterboard you into loving our new facist/communist overlord.
Well, now there totally f'cked, like the Dutch, it's just more of the same bureaucrats how spend money the people don't have... Save the world, save a rich banker?????? Google Daniel hannen (UKIP), END THE FED, ROTHBARD/MISES/HAYEK what ever, but inform yourself...
They got bankrupt because the were STUPID! As nearly every citizen is. Believing the current economic system can sustain itself is delluted!
On the profiting side everyone thinks "Oh me great! Nation even greater!" Have you heard the icelanders responding to Max Keiser 2 years ago?? All in a mood of "We work hard", "We Icelanders know economics"
XD!
They as a nation got bankrupted because a few individuals picked the nations pockes and got away with it....
No sfmain, they got bankrupted because the main Icelandic banks tapped into the money making frenzy of ill-secured loans, which they could procure themselves from larger, mostly American, banks and lend it to anyone who wanted a loan from across the globe. The Icelandic central bank was caught snoozing. EU membership can only make matters worse - I know what it does to a small country because I'm from Malta.
Thanks europarl - thanks, most informed words here. Just want to question how EU membership can make matters worse for Malta? Malta itself is a pretty limited country in resources and labour requirements. I know many young Maltans who are able to follow their career by moving freely around the EU, so as to benefit their job prospects and also to forward themselves. Surely there are many benefits to Malta and it's citizens for having membership of the EU?
Loss of democracy and freedom. Loss of direct control of your destiny. Loss of economic control. one size does not fit all! matters are worse for everyone of the Eu countries, and once the EU takes full control you will see the true nature of the beast. Anything build on lies, deceit and the gravy train is a dangerous beast. it has the powers of a vicious police state, it has just not used them yet. get out while you still can!
it does it to every country. It is the joys of being ruled by dictators. The 5th Reich has technology the 3rd could only dream of! The Uk traitors (politicians) have colluded with the dictators to sell out our country without the promised referendum. This is an illegal take over of the UK, and I am sure the dictators would welcome another country to their control.
Iceland won't get into the EU. If they don't agree to reimburse citizens of the UK and Netherlands money which went down with there dodgy banks then the UK and Holland will block the bid and they will be screwed.
