  • can you feel my wood by touching your screen guys?

  • Reinux, the only need is a braile font map and thats it. They just have to map a different texture to letters, apply the font and blind people woula almost be able tow work with normal computers! I just wonder how much this kind of technology would cost...

  • now if they can get braille to work with this, we can have smartphones for blind people

  • I hear they're using this in their new Honeycomb tablet (the Thrive). I hope it works out, because we really need haptic feedback for our gadgets.

I've owned my iPad for almost a year now and I'm still not really used to that on-screen keyboard. The fact that it has zero haptic feedback means you need to actually look down at it to know where you're typing. This creates a slight lag and unease when compared to the click of a real keyboard.

  • Wow, really exciting! *fists clenched jumping up and down*

  • A haptic, textured touch screen??

  • This is the way to go if they want to have a touch screen on the controller. With tactile feedback, you won't have to constantly look at your controller and so you'll be able to concentrate on your tv.

  • Mmh i got wood!

  • I wonder how they are able to program what it feels like. Imaging Java: touch.()

and then you put your methods and define the sensation. This is something worth seeing on the controller of the Wii 2. thumbs up if you agree

  • @abckookooman Wouldn't it make more sense to just have the feedback channels affixed to a heightmap. So the brighter the "pixel" the more feedback to produce, and vice versa.

This would allow the freedom to create custom feedback "materials" and not some predefined set. It also makes more sense to do it this way, as it's not just material feedback you're giving, related to what is on the screen, so you might have Braille text overlay and then a "bump" for the next button (ebook reader example).

  • @Zuriki09 You are right, and if the sensation was simply a variable from 0-255 (assuming it is 8 bit) for "rough" or "smooth" for each "pixel," pretty much anyone can create apps using the SDK. Maybe the "pixels" are like on a screen, with more or less 3 "subpixels" so you can fool the hand to think it is different material.

  • cheapasses, they coudnt even find some images without imagebank watermarks :)

  • I can imagine how people will be able to hack it

  • Some of you guys sure are grammers

  • I think this kind of thing would be great if Apple actually added it into the next-gen iPhones.

  • So, what's the point in this from a gameplay standpoint?

Yes it's interesting technology and yes it's got applications in other areas, but why the hell is it being put into a nintendo game console?

  • @cfehunter Well, I doubt this is going into Nintendo's new conosle. It's possible, though, and it would make for a great gameplay gimmick. Never doubt Nintendo; they rarely disappoint. Who would have thought the Wii would go on to sell like crazy?

  • @MasterofRubik i don't like creepy surfaces..., a good old touch screen is fine though... I hope we can turn it off if it foes come on wii 2/hd/feel/stream/project cafe/whatever

  • @MasterofRubik The latest info on the new console says that the pads will have a touchscreen with this new tactile surface tech implemented in them. Nothing confirmed until E3 I know but it's the sort of crazy thing that nintendo loves to do.

With the wii the motion controls made sense, it's the most intuitive control method for those unfamiliar with the traditional game pads, it opened gameing to a massive new audience and it should be praised for that.

This is different. It adds nothing.

  • @cfehunter It could be used to give you the feeling of pressing a button on a touch pad. Which would allow you to use touch pads in a better way then you do now.

  • Please Nintendo, don't make another gimmick T_T

  • @hundredand right so any change or use of new technology in a gaming system is considered a gimmick right off the bat huh. What about the analog stick? was that considered a gimmick when it was first unveiled and look at it now.

  • @ninjasan11 I'm not saying it is a gimmick, I'm saying I hope it's NOT a gimmick. It depends on how it's done. Just look at the 3DS, I think most will agree that they could do without the 3D. The analogue stick enhanced the gaming experience, will this 'feel' technology do the same? That's the question. And I do believe that if they center their console around it (it's still a rumor, I believe) it will be a gimmick, just like the Wii.

  • @hundredand i doubt that they will center the new nintendo console on this, i think it would be just a new gameplay element, but nothing more.

  • If this comes to Project Café I will rip out the giblets of anyone calling it gimmick

  • THANK YOU FOR SHOWING US THIS DAVID!!!

  • Nintendo is gonna pioneer this

  • Go NINTENDO!

NINTENDO FEEL IN 2012- new console king, baby!!

  • This would be AWESOME combined into the touch screen on Nintendo's new controller. Motion controls on the Wii may have not been too popular with the hardcore gamers, myself included... but a touchscreen interface... that could work.

With its new rumored better-than-PS3 specs just think of how a normal game with an inventory system just got much better to manage from the touchscreen.

  • @awexsome2034 Nintendo is paving the way to future gaming! I'm going to sell my PS3 and Xbox 360 and buy this new console. XD

  • GAY

  • @iDuffdabestweed Apparently technology has a sexuality according to you. You saw a less than two minute video showing technology you couldn't even dream of making yourself, with people probably far more successful than you will ever be even if you lived five lifetimes. Enjoy your sad, pathetic life as a person almost nobody in the world will ever give a shit about.

  • @errorzinvalid apparently, you are an angry pussy. go jerk off to your blow up dolls while playing world of warcraft you fucking loser. AHAHAHAHAHHAHA BITCH!!!

  • @iDuffdabestweed Fine, besides the small insult I made, I'm just saying that you couldn't possibly make something like this, and you're only hating it because you think it's stupid. If you think it's stupid that's all you have to say. You're the one getting angry. I was only saying something because you were so stupid and couldn't explain why you hate something. You're the one that's mad because of a really lame insult I made. Besides, what are you going to do, get even more mad or just stop?

  • SHIT. Why do ALL my good ideas get made before I can make them...

Everything the 3DS is... this... urgh. A copy and paste pen even exists -_-

  • @TheSK2x same here! i wanter a camera with a display in the front and they even made that too

  • This isn't the main point of the new nintendo console, it is rumored to be one of the many new features on the device.

  • Warning: Virtual paper cuts may occur.

  • i wouldnt like this for the new wii..

  • @jcnba28 HA!

    It's not a WII.

    WIN.

  • @kirox777 I know a 3dsblog fan when i see one and good research my amigo.

  • @kirox777

Wow your getting all mad over unproven rumors. How sad. -_-

  • @cominder64 who cares, everything on this system is an unproven rumor so i can believe what i want. "Nintendo Feel" does sound like something nintendo will rename their console. every nameup to the Revolution was good. but once that bitch convinced nintendo to change the name to gay ass wii, everything started going downhill. This name is a serious turn off though... ugh "Feel"?? cmon man! stream was so much better!!

  • @cominder64 which do you see people saying "yo son im getting the Feel" or "yo son im getting the Stream" the same thing happened with the Revolution, people were looking forward to that but it was changed to gay ass Wii... they definitely lost some sales just for that, maybe just a lil' but still lost sales. took me a year and a half to get used to calling the system a wii wii. i just hope its bull shit.

  • @kirox777

But still, why get mad or as talk in big caps, when rumors that has not or nor proven true, been talked or mention rise up.

  • @cominder64 because it seems possible. and nintendo is getting me tight lately their choices are just horrible since the wii. all the way down to their idea of a fun experience doesnt compare to ps3 and 360. its sad.

  • @kirox777

That doesn't mean you need to go all about and make your self look like a 2 years kid.

  • @kirox777 Then again, I'm thankful it wasn't called Revolution. Honestly, it would've been a cool name at first but a few years down it's not that much of a revolution anymore

  • According to the newest rumors, Nintendo will use this for the WiiHD controllers

  • @SuperPoxuz From what i heard, Nintendo want to use it in there next console, the Nintendo Feel, not a new Wii controller(still rumors thou) :D

  • Yo dawg, i heard you like girls. So we put a girl in your phone so you can play while YOU play.

  • ohhh future, how wonderful do you look

  • Gotta love these Japanese :). Whenever I see high-tech news, the Japanese are somewhere behind it.

  • put an image of a vagina i never been violated in my life

  • this is o gona own it's a new way of using a touch screen

  • Whoa... combine this with a pair of gloves and a stereoscopic virtual-space visor and body tracking sensors... voila! Realistic arcade games?! 8D That era may be closer than we think...

  • So... Braille for touch screens?

  • @reeakins wow, wonderful idea :)

  • so what? were gonna be able to wrap our phone around our dick and have someone else feel it, smash it, claw at it? id go for that

  • Wow, that is pure win. I want one!

  • Braile ebooks

  • AH! i got E-splinters by the wood feeling :O!

  • @edeikuliu HAhahahahahaha

  • @edeikuliu E-splinters was so good lol.

  • let the inappropriate usage comments begin!!

  • I WANT! *amazed* #FTW

  • @bloodaid #lol

  • Wow this is amazing.

  • Wow

  • they should have demo'd it showing Braille

  • ... and the adult industry for the smart phones is already at work for the next tactile feedback applications.

  • wow interesting

  • put a image of a girl on it, fun all day!

  • this would make an awesome wallpaper for my house. The walls would look like whatever i want it to look and would feel like whatever the image its showing.

  • Yeah, Braille was the first system i thought of to be implemented with the new device.

  • howbout braile???

  • cool!

  • Nice

  • amazing.
