  • in finland, we got these huge things ;)

  • wow, that is one big bitch!

  • Also wartsila can learn anything from me.

  • lets stickk this in a gocart

  • someone produce a supercharger for this thing!

  • @KEV1N02Productions its already Turbo charged. The Turbo alone is the size of a small car.

  • I need to see this mounted in a frame for a HUGE hot rod! Would be badass!

  • it costs 10k just to start the engine

  • Ha my Toyota tercell could use 1/100th of this power that would be great.

  • Gonna drop this in my 68 mustang fastback! :D

  • will it fit in my 1990 honda sedan?

  • @Smonjirez it was a joke referencing TF2's Heavy weapons guy explaining the cost of his weapons ammunition. But thanks for the factual layout.

  • It costs 400,000 dollars to run this ship for 12 seconds.

  • @gatler2919 no, rather $55. 250 tons = 250.000 kg / day ~ 10416 kg / hour ~ 3 kg / seconds which equals roughly about 3 liters of fuel. For about 12 seconds with a fuel price of $1.65 that comes to around $55-$60.

  • biggest *diesel* engine, not the biggest engine. that title lies with the rocketdyne j2.

  • OMG!

The Wärtsilä RT-flex96C is a two-stroke turbocharged low-speed diesel engine designed by the Finnish manufacturer Wärtsilä. It is currently considered the largest reciprocating engine in the world, designed for large container ships, running on heavy fuel oil. It stands at 13.5 metres (44 ft) high, is 27.3 m (90 ft) long, and weighs over 2300 tonnes in its largest 14-cylinder version — producing 109,000 brake horsepower

  • @2jzgtejza80 Sorry, you are wrong. Dial up Wartsila.com and research before you type again. Thank you.

  • @TheErik249

Sorry my mistake, I read that one of engines are assembled and installed in S.Korea. Probably made in Finland. :)

  • @pikkupaska81 They might be compensating for something?

  • Wart-zilla!

  • Its OVER 9000! x 10.555555555555555555555555555556 HP!!!!!!

  • @pikkupaska81 Allure of the Seas

  • I would absolutely love to get inside one of the crankshafts when it is in operation and be crushed to death!

  • i'd hate to see the repair bill if that thing throws a rod!!

  • @xrayracer1 Impossible, it doesn't run high enough rpm. :P

  • LOL !! Those inspection doors are in the crankcase, combustion occurs in the cylinder head, at the top of the engine. To further confuse things, there are 2 con rods per piston. The first is connected to the piston and only moves vertically, it is connected by whats called a cross head to the second connecting rod which turns the crankshaft. Also, it's a two stroke, turbo charged diesel.

  • soo is it internal combustion?

cos if it was i am not sure u could have the doors open, doesnt a cylinder need no spots for the diesel to escape so it complete combustion?

  • 1 top fuel dragster in each cylinder, lol.

  • "Come have a walk inside my engine"

  • @pikkupaska81 Nokia :)

  • @darklord964 ah! Silly me! Of course! ;)

  • Fuel consumption of 250 ton/day, if thats ifo-380 it will cost 250 x ~650 = $162500 to run that ship 1 day.

  • i wanna see that engine in a civic.

  • @TheRcDevil HAHAHA WOW A STUPID COMMENT

  • @mariguano85 lol no duh... b18's belong in civics

  • @Kingmerik999 lmfao

  • And made by finns!

  • wart-zilla engines are amazing

  • Wartsila rhymes with Godzilla for good reason!

  • 5,600,000 lbs of TORK

    hooooooolyyyy shiiiiiit

at full load it consumes 3 liters of gas a second

  • put that ina go-cart

  • this is my tricycle's motor.

  • man i would hate to change the oil in that thing

  • @ACHEESEDANISH00 it would take days lol

  • Put that on a go cart!!!

  • Chuck Norris kick starts that for fun.

  • fuckin south african boustin size BIG HEAD

  • MY Yamaha Aerox has got this

  • and again its made in finland ;)

  • @noone309 no! its make in japan by AIOI but the initial project is filand

  • it needs around 30 000 to 40 000 liters oil a hour lol

  • bad some bitch, should make a land vechle for that motor

  • 95 bugatti veyrons :)

  • from korea? a ricer diesel? aw, man.

  • Ah, A South African second engineer !Jou aksent gee jou weg meneer !

  • @xenithonman fitting that his last name is zeeman, eh?

  • 1 million hp

5.5 millin pound feet of touqe

  • lol the music

  • Hmm, wonder if this will fit in my civic?

  • 5,608,310 foot pounds of torque @ 102 rpm...

talk about a big lazy engine...

  • @C63AMGestate at just 102 rpm it would have the same piston speed as a 2000rpm truck engine... ;)

  • Now i know why gas is so fuking expencive...

  • Isn't there a 14 cylinder version as well?

  • @scott93257

    Yep the Wärtsilä-Sulzer 14RTFLEX96-C

    (is't in the 14)

You can Find one in the Emma Maersk Series

  • @scott93257 yeah and its over 100k hp

  • 250 tons of oil per day? i can't belive!

  • @chojna1991 oil? teh fuck are yo on about? it's fuel , not oil :)

  • watch?v=8OQJ4UrAVJw

and prepare for a visit to the The Scottish Fisheries Museum, see the video links and the pull down links and you'll appreciate your visit much more!

  • so, this is where all the oil has been going. no wonder oil's expensive now.

  • it's a wartzilla!!!

  • will this fit my aprilia rs125?

  • No wonder fuel prices went up!

  • this needs to be red lined with nitrous ,until it goes bang!

  • @scott93257 simply to annoy people like you, then it can be rebuilt , for the engineering task involved ,...dopey

  • 95000HP!!!

  • that is reason why fuel is running out in the ground

  • at 1:37 captain:please start the engine!it in an order!

  • Wärtsilä-Sulzer RTA96-C create 108 920 bhp at 102 rpm and max. torque is 5,608,312 lb/ft at 102rpm. The later models of RTA96 pulls 114,000 bhp

  • Sulzer is a Swiss name, not Finnish. Maybe Wartsila built the prototype but they sure as he'll don't mass produce these engines. Enviro regs in northern Europe are too strict to allow for steel mill & kiln processes to mfr. Set your pride aside it's just the facts nothing personal

  • @DocPhotop Sulzer's engine manufacturing activities were purchased by Wärtsilä in 1997, hence the company first marketed under the name Wärtsilä-Sulzer, but has now dropped the Sulzer part from its marketing. Google for sppc_2011.pdf page 46-7, please.

  • @itapirkanmaa Im fully aware of the merger/acq. history....I also recall that the Finns got rid of the Swiss Techs, many of whom went independent as Sulzer Expert consultants.

  • @DocPhotop Anyways, the official line seems at the moment to be: no Sulzer brand used, and I believe this applies to the actual engines as well.

  • @itapirkanmaa i still think of them as Sulzer!! cheers

  • Rommi - yeah and wikipedia is not an official source of information

  • Sulzer knows his stuff!!

  • im lookin for somethin like this for my dodge ram :)

  • Im gonna put this in my moms prius and see if she notices it.

  • Comment removed

  • @rommi85 Designed by the Swiss, manufactured in Korea under license.

  • @DocPhotop Fuck u! you dont know nothing! Check wikipedia you asshole!

The Wärtsilä RT-flex96C is a two-stroke turbocharged low-speed diesel engine designed by the Finnish manufacturer Wärtsilä.

  • @rommi85 The first 14cylinder are built in Korea by Doosan

  • @BlooDish14 IT IS designed by FINNISH manufactuter WÄRTSILÄ!

  • @rommi85 yes, it is designed by Wärtsilä but built in Korea

  • Luxury Shipping Lines ship cars, oilwell supplies, personal items domestic and international.

  • Wow id hate to be the one paying for the fuel

  • @alrightgarylad - But we all do, the fuel costs are factored into the Asian manufactured items on the store shelves

  • how the hell did they get that much metal to machine that crank, thats just ludacris!

  • man...id love to machine that crank

  • why not put a nuclear power plant in such a ship?

  • @jwavanerkel, it's too expensive and some people have problems with nuclear power, potentially affecting to the economics of a merchant ship. Still, I'm quite sure one day we'll see nuclear-powered merchant ships (again).

  • will this make my car a "10 secound car"

  • THE WORT-ZILLA AHAHAHA

  • @wtfronsson Yesssss!!

  • where's the oil?

  • @CryptoN8 Its dry sumped sort of so the oil is switched off during inspections as it has an electric oil pump

  • @CryptoN8 it does not have sump oil because its a two stroke diesel engine , it works just like a two stroke petrol engine except on the exhaust stroke it uses huge blowers to flush the exhaust gases from the cylinder and induct fresh air into the cylinder.

  • @glockeva There's no problem with sump oil here, because these engines are NOT crankcase scavenged, like the chainsaw engines you may have gotten confused with.

And ... this family of engines are turbocharged 2-strokes, with auxiliary scavenging blowers for startup.

  • @woodscritter , pahaps i should have explaned it better, its also worth pointing out to people that dont know is that these two stroke diesels are fuel injected and have exhaust valves like a four stroke engine, however air induction is achieved by blowers near b d center. a standard petrol two stroke engine as "woodscritter" quite rightly said are crank case scavenged and air / fuel are inducted in this manner.

  • ive seen some people fat enough to consume 250 tons of food in a day

  • @cubsrock10997 Hmm, 250 tons, that is 500,000 pounds. That is about 2,000,000 Quarter Pounders. The stomach being about fist size, can stretch, but holds food for around 7 hours, slowly releasing it bit by bit into the small intestine. Hmm.. 2 Million Quarter Pounders.. I think you're bullshitting. Considering 2 million quarter pounders would fill more then 2 Semi Trucks yet the body is only 6 feet by 3 feet.

  • @sacr3 wow you dont have to get so serious about it jeez. unless your on of those people that eats half there weight in food per day. OH GOD PLEASE DONT EAT ME I WAS KIDING!!!

  • Throw a rod and sink the ship....Whooops

  • Comment removed

  • @Groxu The crankshaft needs to be big as hell to turn that propelly, and that Crankshaft wouldn't fit in the veyron. I'm sure 80 engines would turn the propeller, but the Shaft would just twist from too much torque

  • @sacr3, eighty Veyron W16 engines would produce 100,000 Nm of torque. This engine produces 7,603,850 Nm. Of course a reduction gearbox would multiply the torque, but I still seriously doubt you could run the ship with such engine arrangement...

  • @Groxu, the fuel bill would kill you.

  • i mount it on to my bike Q_Q xD

  • @Thehaxorfull1 all put it on my plane and then fly off hihihihi

  • Guess they've given up on steam turbines for ships. The engine in the

U.S.S. United States was over 200,000 horsepower, but it burned so

much fuel crossing the ocean at 40 kt it never made much money.

  • @4freespeech

Airplanes, especially the jet airliners were the ones most responsible for killing off the ocean liners. By 1956 more people crossed the Atlantic by planes than by ships.

The supersonic Concorde also burned insane amounts of fuel while cruising at Mach 2, so naturally only rich businessmen could ever afford to cross the Atlantic with one.

  • FORMER largest engine, the largest is the Wärtsila RTA-110-C

  • An inline 12? That thing must be smooth :3

  • Believe it or not........ Japan just came out with yet a much larger one!!

  • "the Wartzilla" i lolled

  • How did they balance that crankshaft?yet alone machine it?

  • now all i need to do is attach it to my lawn mower

  • dang

  • You need forklifte to adjust idle

  • Comment removed

  • Walking inside of an angine, who would've thought that..

  • is it still produce?

  • will this fit in a 98 silverado?

  • @Browndemolitia damn chevys always needing a new engine

  • @Browndemolitia No, but a '98 Silverado wiill fit in it.

  • @jimrennison1

    Just one cylinder at that

  • how much oil it coukd be.........

  • i work in an electricity plant where there are 4 of these in one building.

and they are BIG. just spent 2 weeks cleaning carbon out of piston ring grooves.

  • @Voices72 That's very interesting. Do they ever allow the public in for a tour? It would be facinating to see where our electricty comes form. I think we tend to take it for granted most of the time.

  • sexy!!

  • how many cylinders

  • @TheStruggle66 Its a Straight-14 I think.

  • Put a turbo on it and it will propel that ship at 50 knots :)

  • @zx169 Oxygen is not an issue for a motor of this size, combustion and fuel is.

  • @zx169, it already has four turbochargers...

  • @zx169 It already has four turbochargers on it.

  • ive heard there are a lot of indian wankers working in ships

  • 95000??? Puhhhh gtfo its got nothing on a prius with a little bit of decals and a fart can:)

  • oil?

  • take into account the weight to horsepower ratio the vehicle will still be very slow

  • A dieselpunk's wet dream

  • i bet one engine upgrade for this if it were in a game would be a elevator...

  • this is my next engine swap, should just take a little bit of custom fab and a slightly larger hood

  • you know you have a big engine when there is a ladder inside it lol

  • @brian4480 just put wheels on the engine itself and youl have a house car!! hahahahaha

  • Put that engine in a geo metro and see it fly

  • @JetMechMA For a marine engineer,we dont really want to know from where and for who the engine will work.We only want to see it!Camarade!

  • @Arthurus1983 Oh, I already know you don't care. That's the problem.

  • @JetMechMA

sorry to rain on your parade... but Wärtsila is a finnish company,

The RTA 96-c is designed in Finland, it is built in korea because there are no docks in finland that can carry that kind of load... otherwise we would build it here...

oh :P and i'm from finland... and proud of it ^^

  • @ThePorritZ You're proud of outsourcing your nation's production to Korea? That's odd. People from Finland are odd.

  • @JetMechMA

Thats not quite what i ment, and i think you know that, beside wärtsilä was requested by korea to move the construction there and that is a wise decision since all the engines are going to be fitted there...

  • and in order to build these enormus machines all the roads would have to be refitted, and that would cost i don't know how many billions of €, besides, the inspectors and foremen on the constructionsites are finnish, it's the low payday workers that are korean... nad they need to eat too, don't they?

  • @ThePorritZ Let them design and build their OWN marine engines. I don't care about Korean workers, I care about Americans, in my case. You should care about Finnish workers. I care about my fellow countrymen being loyal to ME...ME...ME....in exchange for me being loyal to them. THAT's how it works.

  • @JetMechMA

you sound like a very selfish human.

ever heard the term "global prosperity"??

  • @ThePorritZ The order of priority is family, country, world. Like I said, we can't afford to outsource our manufacturing. Let them build their own. Greedy global corporations destroy their own country with cheap foreign labor. There is ZERO to be proud of in these giant ships that are used as tools to DESTROY my family.

  • @JetMechMA i'm tired of arguing with you, i think we just have to agree that we have diffrent wiews on this...

live long, live well, live happy :)

  • @ThePorritZ By all means the same to you. I wish you well. But we need to look at the long term effects that outsouring has on the world. For one thing it keeps the third world countries in a perpetual state of being the downtrodden and it wipes out the working class in nations like America....which jepordizes the entire world economy as we see currently. The third world needs to create their OWN economy....not rely on outsourced jobs from other nations which could be pulled at any time.

  • @JetMechMA On this i absolutely agree... and the way the third world countries can doo this is if industrial countries tika Amerika, Canada, Britain, and many more in europe, stop producing their goods in countries like nigeria, and the likes...

  • dude put it in a civic!
