For every beauty there is a horror. For every love there is a loss. A husband who has lost his wife will live on to feel that emptiness alone. Love turned to pain. But yet in each teardrop is the memory of a smile. In this way pain is the proof of our happiness. There is a price to be paid, but that doesn't have to mean it's not worth the cost. When we feel all that remains is sadness, it's up to us to remember there has been and will again be joy as well.
@hairstarlette2015wl Yeah I sure would of gone mad, seeing that it was played during the end credits of the movie Shutter Island, not Inception. I can see the confusion however, both movies have a fantastic soundtrack, Decrapio (sry everyone, it's my name for the guy. I gotta give him credit for being an incredible actor though.) and a similar theme of a wife who lost control of herself. Inception has a considerably happier ending however. Shutter Island breaks your heart.
For those of you remembering people who were dear to you, this is a song dear to me. Another really beautiful one is All That Remains by Josh Kramer. Look it up here on YT - gorgeous stuff.
Ahhhh this is inspiring music!! I'm a huge Max Richter fan and i did my own version of his tune 'Infra 6' with vocals and lyrics so it would be nice if some folks could check it out because while my take on his music might not be so special , you can see that from 'this bitter earth' how some of his music can be brought to life even more by vocals and powerful words. You can find my version of infra 6 on my channel under the video 'winning the war'. thanks folks.

My father passed away a short time ago. This song reminds me that even though this tragedy will affect me forever, life goes on and there's still some good on this earth.
Clyde Otis wrote this song in 1960. Dinah recorded it in 1960 and then passed away in 1963. She was one of a kind, with a voice of one in a million. Few words saying more than most any other song recorded. That Leonardo Dicaprio would use this at the end of his "Shutter Island" credits says a lot. May be his finest film, when understood from it's emotional content. I was 17 in 1963 and this song left me dumbfounded even then. We were totally blessed having Dinah Washington come down to earth.
very few songs have the moving power that this one clearly has and I find it sad that music like this is passed aside for whatever mtv puts out instead when this clearly says so much more.
Never really put comments up about music just enjoy listering but had to about this because it moved me so much ,it is the reason why music has to be in your life it gives you so many emotions.
I've read the book & seen the movie Shutter Island 3x, so imagine my surprise when I was too lazy to change the channel while the credits rolled and this song broke into my consciousness with those painful notes. I had to stop what I was doing and just......listen
This song is begging to be used in some 2012'ish kind of film.
Just before everything collapses, the screaming mixes with the music and you have that slow-motion shot, of people clinging to their beloved ones. Definitely.

Absolutely beautiful, although I knew already the base theme by Max van Richter, without vocals! With all due respect, I prefer the "dry" version... (without vocals)
I don't know what's worse...The notion that in 200 years we will be remembered for our popular music and music with passion and soul will have ceased to exist, or that we as an audience were weak enough to let that happen.
words cannot express how i feel when i hear this song experiencing a great loss it makes you breathless for a moment and deep inside you as quick as a blink of an eye a part of you dies and is forever lost ...at least thats how i felt the moment they told me my dad died i did not know him well but at that instant realized i still cared after years i had a chance to meet him and i said no cuz i was still angry 2 weeks later he died..... such regret i fee,l again there are no wordsbut thissong

I just looked to the right of this video and saw Katy Perry's 'Firework' has nearly 197 million views, whilst this masterpiece has a mere 321 thousand...says a lot about the state of most people's musical tastes.
I heard this at the end of shutter island and didn't even realise there was backing track, her voice is just that mesmorising! When I tried to find the version on here I was like "why the hell have they all got a backing track?!" then I rewound shutter island and realised it was there all that time... That marks a truly beautiful artist, one that just overrides an amazing instrumental that easily... ahhh <3
I first heard this on SYTYCD. It touched me in a way that I have ever experienced before. It is the most beautiful song that I have ever heard in my life.
Soo It's Official Im in LOVE with this Song and I have to express my love for this Song , by Choreographing A piece to this = ) . This Song brings me to tears Everytime I hear it , where is this talent at now a days .. THIS BITTER EARTH , <3
I saw Shutter Island before my children were born - I don't think I could watch it now, it would be too painful. Still, glad I have seen it; I feel it was rather underrated by critics at the time. It certainly has a lot of resonance with a wide number of people. This combination of Richter music and Diana Washington is fabulous. My wife and children are asleep upstairs and find it hard not to cry thinking of them and listening to this.
@autofu lol his brain cant comprehend a long deep paragraph for one and two he will never have anyone close to lose i mean he most likely lives in his mothers basement so he cant get attached to anyone down there lucky him.
Does anybody know where I can download this song? itunes only lets you download the entire album/soundtrack. No singles. Thanks!!

It is the most beautiful song that I have ever heard in my life.

such a sad ending
i remember watching this movie in the cinema's with an ex girlfriend of mine
never expected this movie to cause such a shock
1000x better than i could ever expect it to be
& now that i'm watchin the end on prime this song just catches me and reminds me
of the beauty , melancholy and most of all the tragedy of this movie

I saw Shutter Island before my children were born - I don't think I could watch it now, it would be too painful. Still, glad I have seen it; I feel it was rather underrated by critics at the time. It certainly has a lot of resonance with a wide number of people. This combination of Richter music and Diana Washington is fabulous. My wife and children are asleep upstairs and find it hard not to cry thinking of them and listening to this.
