With even crisper handling than before? Compared to the previous EP2 Civic Type R this understeers like mule on a frozen lake covered with baby oil. The JDM F2 Civic Type R on the other hand i a pretty hardcore road and track racer, maybe to hardcore.
Just bought one the last Type R GTs to be made....Had a Type S but traded in....and all I can say is its amazing to drive. The sound of the engine is just wonderful. And its doing 32MPG around the city so very happy. Insurance wasnt crazy and its fast as hell. Its a pity its the last Type R....I think the Japanese might be getting a new one when the facelift model comes out a year and a bit.

Strangely no one is pointing out that Topgear crowned this car Hothatch of the year when it came out, and that it outpreformed all other cars in its class Including the Ep3.

@sir240s I had a honda prelude for a few years, I had the O ring blow, the transmission blow, the bearing in the front left wheel go out, and speakers go out... I wouldn't say their that nice. I'd rather stick with my nissan.
you probably had an old car, but the transmission you probably broke by sloppy gear change, the speakers by having it to loud with pore settings and equipment, bearing in front weel is a common error for all cars, and O ring you can figure that one for your self :) but some nissans are cool like a skyline, but you cant call any nissan better than a honda thats just a fact, and i would like to think that anyone could agree with me on that one :D

Don't get me wrong I'm a fan of the Civic Type R, I am a fan of the latest shape Civic in general, but this review sounds more like a promotional video than a fair and balanced review. When Clarkson reviewed it, he picked out some pretty valid points, one of which being that it weighs a lot more than its predecessors, yet the engine doesn't produce any more power. Perhaps the Mugen version of this car can do the job..
wow the problem here is the power band is all the way up @ 7800 RPM meaning once you hit that 197hp , you lose it, as the rev limit is 8000... Now it gets there relatively fast for a honda hatch but at the same time you get about .4 seconds worth of that 197hp before it shifts into second gear and loses RPMs...
@cwjb14 R32 is that a volkswagon?And this type R's engine is the K20(2.0 liter) and it naturally produces 220 hp with a redline of 9000 rpm.Its not 198 hp.So thats 110 hp PER LITER.Which honda is the ONLY one in the WORLD to produce such power without turbos.So compare your specs with your R32 and your car is pussy shit...no offense.If honda wanted to they could of had this car to have almost 300 hp without boost.

@terryrouge Type R's are just the European version of the Si.....they have literally the same performance. The only difference is that the Type R doesn't have as good of a stereo system. The 2011 Si comes with a subwoofer and optional extra base speakers , plus a nav system.

alas i still think porsche is the best auto maker hands down. even though they cant match the HP pr litier w/o boost like you said, they still hold down most reliable car maker title, no other car maker can say there turbo'd engines can walk the line of daily driver and super car.

@kphillips012 haha its ok to be wrong. its a good car.I own five cars and one of them is a subaru STI,its turboed and all wheel drive.Its a lil more reliable than porche cuz its japanese car.In japan its the police car.But it all really matters what works best for you.I think honda is the best.Not the USA cars but japans,honda is the oldest car you see in the USA road.I learned alot about cars when i use to sell them.frankly i think automakers are making cars more cheap and more expensive..

@garryinblack why actually yet. they are, that is why the original type R's are the leading front wheel drive performers in the world. if its a FF with a rear tortion. be prepared to understeer all day and away. understeer is not a good thing. if you're refering to the rally cars, majority of them run on a 4wd or awd layout. if its an FF, no wonder they rarely ever take a win. the point is, tortion bars offer terrible handling. just what the top gear video buddy. the new type R cant corner.

Honda is awesome, I've driven my last one for 8 years. With no need of service... The car just don't break AT ALL. Now I have new Civic with 2.2 iCTD-i diesel engine and it's just mind blowing!
btw. I heard that due to European Union restrictions for gases emission, Honda will stop production of type-R Civics! This is damn insane! :(

Its cute if your female. Plus its good for female's because it only has 197 hp. You don't want to put a muscle car in your wife's hand. She will end up wrapping around a tree thinking she could mash the pedal like she does in her Honda Odyssey. Not enough power for my taste.

@terryrouge Type R's are just the European version of the Si.....they have literally the same performance. The only difference is that the Type R doesn't have as good of a stereo system. The 2011 Si comes with a subwoofer and optional extra base speakers , plus a nav system.
