The only pianist to believably hold this piece together for me, Moiseiwitsch also plays the living crap out of it with gorgeous tone and forward motion. His recoridngs of the Mendelssohn Midsummer Night's Dream Scherzo, Liszt "La leggierezza" and the Beethoven "Emperor" With Szell are among the greatest of many of his greatest recordings; his Rachmaninoff Preludes are also sensational. He was a complete musician as well as being a brilliant pianist.
I am equally impressed. This is highly imaginative, deeply poetic, passionate. And indeed, he keeps it together (would however hesitate to claim, he's the only one, but I can see what you mean)
Apart from that - who could live without his "La Leggierezza"!?!
Captivant!!

This is wonderful! One of my favorite pianists (whom I have so much trouble finding recordings of) playing one of my favorite pieces!
Thank you, truecrypt!

"highly imaginative", "deeply poetic", "passionate", "scintillating"
Indeed! "Bravo"!
What is left unsaid is missing from this performance, and it will never be said because it cannot be said...
(hmmm...I'm starting to sound like Wittgenstein...)

Pretty good sound quality considering the age of the recording and the compression involved in uploading this gem of a performance.

I agree. Benno was the man.

Dear Bach,
I can't disagree with you more. Benno was not a "man".

Then what was he--a woman or a fembot?

Dear Billy,
I can't agree with you more. Moiseiwitsch was a "complete musician".
