I've read as many comments as I think I needed. The comments straddle the line between hard-right "hang 'em high" people and hard-left "let 'em all out" people. Neither argument makes any realistic sense.

i have experienced this and can safely say that i would NOT change my mind. The people who video taped it are the people who work for the jail and they did it for the inmate's safety as well as the officer's safety. I guess the next time the inmate will do what he is told???

it is video tapped for legal purposes. the facility is who videos it. videos are not allowed to the public but this inmate probally sued and got a copy of the video from his lawyer or something and posted it. i have experinced it as i am a corrections officer and it is not fun, very stressful, it hurts me to know that so many people think we are just there to make inmates lives miserable!!!

N, savparts, I wouldn't tell him it was OK. But I hope I wouldn't act like the criminal he is. From the video, it didn't seem like the officers in armor and helmets had much to fear from a naked man. In the ER we control people who are violent without the benefit of armor or helmets. Without degrading them, and in over a decade, no injury to patient or staff. It can be done safely AND humanely. A restraint chair is torture. If he's mentally ill, he needs treatment. Don't sink to their level.

Pretty much once they are activated it is a predetermined use of force, which means that all the other lesser levels of force have been used. xj, I do know a lot. I have a relative on the Response Team at a New York State prison. And in the ED I'm involved with criminals and the insane daily. As a physician, I'm appalled by the behavior I saw, and astonished at the apparent lack of training and basic decency. The bad behavior of the inmates is no excuse for yours. That special team needs more training. Perhaps in how to be a decent human being. Control the situation, yes. Sexually humiliate and torture, no. There's a huge difference.

Okay, this is a random beating. The guards had no reason to do this to him and I believe they found this fun and entertainment for themselves. The reason these guards did this was because they wanted to tell themselves that they have power over the inmates. In the state of Maine, this happens a lot and I've heard worst than this too. This is not a video of a bad prisoner being beaten, its a video of bad guards beating a prisoner.

When you violate the laws of this country (or your respective state) you become a felon and that entails giving up certain rights. You have no idea what this inmate did to cause a cell extraction nor what his crime was that landed him in prison. It takes quite a bit on the part of the inmate for things to escalate to a cell extraction. The officers weren't asking for something outrageous, just be cuffed and walk out of the cell. Fault=Inmate. Did he deserve it? Fucking right he did.

this is a video of some pos prisoner who must have refused several direct orders or committed an assault on an officer or fellow inmate. The guards taking him down are ERT Cell Extraction team members, not just regular guards. They had to be assembled. it takes time. The stupid shit had lots of time to give up peacefully. I had my first SORT cell extraction (i work for cca a private prision) I was jus a camara man. The guys in SEG had a two foot peice of steel and they wanted blood. two one seconds bursts jus 3 oz of TOP COP was enough to drop em and make em cuff up!
