Banks are responsible for handling their own debts. Their success depends on whether or not they have sound policies. If a bad business fails, they should not be bailed out by the government (taxpayer dollars). When a bad, big business needlessly exists, they prevent good, small businesses from taking place because of competition. Banks should hold reserves equivalent to their deposits (No fractional reserve banking!). If banks are worried about failing, they will use more sound policies.
@MONOPOLY35 I absolutely agree that bad businesses should not be bailed out. However, a bank run doesn't mean that a bank fails because of bad policies. I don't necessarily agree with banking practices but this video as an example only shows a disturbed third party encouraging people to withdrawal their money who otherwise have little knowledge of its effects. After a bank run then what? Who takes over these big banks? Are smaller ones really capable of handling such acquisitions?

We are not living in a free-market, however. What we have today is centrally-planned, top down, regulated economy.
