It will always b hopelessness for Chicago Artist. "Trust None" & "When Thugs Cry" r underground classics in the south.
Also the absence of black colleges and military bases in the midwest region takes away the grass roots profits that creates a fanbase without support of a major label. The south artist grows large budgets off this and builds a profit building independent label from it hungry fanbase.
Chicago is the largest consumer market not buyer market, New York has the international trade and L.A music industry feeds of the film industry but the funny thing is that Chicago is the founding father for both film and music, MGM and Universal both were created in Chicago but as for the music biz, Chicago hip-hop music lost more than a DJ when Pink House died. Since his absence the local radio station has taking on the small market ethics and so locals can get heavy radio play without a major.
