Those jewfish are definitely something to look out for. I was just at the thunderbolt last weekend when my friend shot a 40 lb permit, it took a dive down and was being chased by both jewfish and bullsharks.

If anyone here has dove the T-bolt without a tank you have my respect. It is a very difficult dive with a strong current. Not to mention poor vis, would be very hard to spearfish without a tank.

Wow I can't believe I found this video. I was in your exact same position a couple of months ago on the t-bolt. I shot a 30 pound amberjack off the bow of the boat. I had not one, but two goliath grouper going after it. They both hang out down there. One was around 400 pounds, the other 250. I thought for sure I was about to go for a ride. Luckily I beat both of them to the AJ.

Nebraska is more like 15 hours inland. I just got back from Key West today Actually. Shot some nice hogs, and a couple of Gag groupers, all in about 40-60 foot of water. I'll be going again in May. But dude...these trips with airfar and renting a boat charter, and a place to stay for two days is easily a couple thousand per trip. Look, all i am saying is, just because we don't risk our lives, doesn't make us wrong. I hope you are still spearing and enjoying life when you are my age.

Can I just point out that the fish speared in the video here in florida is called a yellow jack....and the T-bolt is 115-120' to the sand...the top of the wreck is about 75-80' I free dive it once every month or so....

Here in the US you can do it, u also need a license for it, we have a lot of fish and we dont shoot anything that it is on the ocean like you guys in other countrys, also we dont have the commercial fishing boats destroying all the fishes like in your country, so dont run ur mouth on something that you have no clue
Spear-fishing is still a sport on scuba. When you are deep underwater you have to locate the hidden fish. They rarely swim in-front of you because they are scared off by the bubbles, so you have to hunt for them. Also, you have to take a shot on a moving fish and account for a current. Then you have to put the fish on a stringer and swim around with it trying to avoid shark encounters. It's not a holding your breath contest its fishing underwater.

@Dee813Nice it would be nice if no one had any physical handicaps but some of us do and we do the bests we can. I would like to see people with all of my disabilities try to spearfish without tanks.. Get real. Whatis easy for some is next to impossib le for others. What mattetr is doing the best you can and participating.

If anyone here has dove the T-bolt without a tank you have my respect. It is a very difficult dive with a strong current. Not to mention poor vis, would be very hard to spearfish without a tank.

Wow I can't believe I found this video. I was in your exact same position a couple of months ago on the t-bolt. I shot a 30 pound amberjack off the bow of the boat. I had not one, but two goliath grouper going after it. They both hang out down there. One was around 400 pounds, the other 250. I thought for sure I was about to go for a ride. Luckily I beat both of them to the AJ.

All you guys who don't like scuba spearing...you know...just because we don't want to kill ourselves going fishing, you yahoo's give us shit. Here's the deal, we shoot fewer fish, we see fewer fish...because we are making a ton of noise. So...if i am willing to lose those advantages to not risk my life so be it. I ain't 20 years old anymore...i am too fat to freedive, and I only get out spearing twice a year anymore...so, again...lay off you big whiners.

I live in Nebraska! Where to I freedive, year round, in Nebraska? Look, I don't know what they teach you in whatever country you are from, but here, we hae schools...and in thos schools, we learn that the states in the central US are not nearly the ocean. Look, at the end of the day, scuba spearing is legal here, is safer than freediving, and we shoot less fish, because we make a pile of noise so...talk trash all you want youngin'. I'd rather be safe and spearing at 70 than dead.

Nebraska is more like 15 hours inland. I just got back from Key West today Actually. Shot some nice hogs, and a couple of Gag groupers, all in about 40-60 foot of water. I'll be going again in May. But dude...these trips with airfar and renting a boat charter, and a place to stay for two days is easily a couple thousand per trip. Look, all i am saying is, just because we don't risk our lives, doesn't make us wrong. I hope you are still spearing and enjoying life when you are my age.

Guys no ofense but this sport has to be on Freediving. It dosen´t matter if it is allowed or not in the US. Freediving is the essence of this sport. With the proprer training and gear you can go over 100 ft and enjoy far more than using a tank. Think about it next time you go to the sea. Cheers...

Can I just point out that the fish speared in the video here in florida is called a yellow jack....and the T-bolt is 115-120' to the sand...the top of the wreck is about 75-80' I free dive it once every month or so....

Here in the US you can do it, u also need a license for it, we have a lot of fish and we dont shoot anything that it is on the ocean like you guys in other countrys, also we dont have the commercial fishing boats destroying all the fishes like in your country, so dont run ur mouth on something that you have no clue

Spear-fishing is still a sport on scuba. When you are deep underwater you have to locate the hidden fish. They rarely swim in-front of you because they are scared off by the bubbles, so you have to hunt for them. Also, you have to take a shot on a moving fish and account for a current. Then you have to put the fish on a stringer and swim around with it trying to avoid shark encounters. It's not a holding your breath contest its fishing underwater.

90% of the spearfishing i do is while i'm freediving... try and hold a 400lb Goliath Grouper out of a wreck while freediving at 135ft, not gonna happen.
