  • Ashley, that is a great note, but that is not how they did it. I wonder if he could either step into those skates (unlikely) or if there was someone in the booth with him who put those skates on him.

  • was cheyene supposed to be gay on the play, totally different from the film?

  • @stephy7475 Cheyenne is always supposed to be gay...because he IS gay...but the character of Sonny Malone is not. :-D

  • @ashleywool but the pla makes a gay sonny malone, look at his clothes!

  • @stephy7475 Clothing styles and people's perceptions and interpretations of them change all the time. This look was completely in vogue for straight guys in California at the dawn of the 80's. And maybe it's just Cheyenne Jackson being dead sexy no matter what he wears, but I'd say that this look is actually pretty tame and timeless compared with some of the stuff guys wore back then. Ever seen Olivia Newton-John's "Physical" music video?

  • We loved the show at broadway

  • We loved the show at broadway

  • you make me feel so invincible i could go in to downtown LA with out a weapon

  • I Finally figured out how they did the change of skates

  • Whoever said " All the good guys are gay" was clearly talking about Cheyenne Jackson!

  • LA County -- wall-to-wall autos and pollution

  • She is a great singer, he is a great singer, but after watching this multiple times I am left with one question: "How do you put roller skates on in a phone both?"

  • @jameala Having performed the show (as Kira), I can tell you exactly how to do it: we preset the skates in the booth, and during the 2nd chorus, I wheeled the phone booth around 90 degrees (so the open side faced upstage) and then wheeled it back so Sonny could emerge with the skates on, and the open side never faced the audience. There was a bench in the booth, he sat on it with the phone on his shoulder, got out of his shoes and into the skates, and it just looked like he was on the phone. :)

  • When I die I want to come back as Cheyanne Jackson's cut off denim shorts!

  • If this is what the Broadway version is like.... I hope to NEVER see it! What an insult to a cult classic!

  • ..a TRAVESTY...

  • Whereas Butler is attempting to at least feign attraction, her leading man seems far more self-absorbed. As such, there is sadly little chemistry here. And that's a problem....because it's a song about irresistible attraction. The spine of any love story, regardless of genre, rests upon the ability to create a relationship that sparkles.

The play itself is a little too enamored with it's own cuteness: winking at it's own "clever" satire of the original movie, performers, lyrics, and decade.

  • why is the audience not laughing? this shit is hysterical

  • @lavalamp625 This was a GREAT show!!!

  • I saw Xanadu on Broadway and actually got to sit on stage during the performance. It really was a fun show. Kerry and Cheyenne both did a great job. It was awesome seeing them perform from just a few feet away.

  • I do agree this is a terrible sad remake of the orginal, to make fun of something and not try to make it better is a waste of talent and time.

  • did she inhale helium?

  • Comment removed

  • does she tap dance

  • I didn't see the show but Cheyenne is taken, girls. He's one of the best looking gay men I've ever seen, along with John Barrowman, another sexy gay and talented entertainer. He fills those shorts quite nicely.

  • Wow - parody or not - this is pretty terrible. Don't remake stuff if you can't do it better! This is almost offensive to those of us who've seen the original.

  • Hope not to offend but this looks horrible! and her "aussie accent" was absolutely terrible!!!! I was sitting thinking why does she sound like such a twat when she speaks and then I realised she was a yank trying to sound like an Australian - she can't even do the accent!

  • @fatheranthony4pope

that was the point!! she is a greek muse trying to be in disguise as an australian named kira! its supposed to be a ridiculous accent!

  • @fatheranthony4pope The show is making fun of the movie...they're over playing it on purpose.

  • @fatheranthony4pope It's not supposed to be a believable accent. The script makes several references to the accent being terrible. The point is that she's parodying ONJ.

  • I love her wig!!!

  • just saw the touring company yesterday. very fun show, music is great, and just very sweet. true no real substance or anything to take away but music stuck in your head, but just a fun time at the theatre.

  • It actually didn't close quickly compared to most shows these days. And I don't know, I'm quite a theatre snob and I adore this show. It was a good take on the film. Made it better actually. It's not perfect but it's entertaining. Also, most musicals from stage or screen when the musical was "in" were quite awful, but most had wonderful talent and good music material. I believe the same can be said for this show. ELO is good stuff. This song is cheesy, sure, but even so... ELO is great.

  • It didn't close very quickly..

  • I never realized that you can see him taking off his shoes . . . HAH. Classy.

  • Damn, Cheyenne Jackson looks better in short shorts than most girls do...

  • Who ARE you people? Kerry Butler is one of the most hilarious, talented, beautiful people in the business. Get over yourselves.

...that being said, both Cheyenne and Kerry are much better than this performance.

  • People seriously don't get that she's imitating Olivia and trying to be over the top because that's what the Broadway version was about? It's a tribute and a parody.

  • @Aelphaba33 true and she does it well. I know its a parody but kerry sings better than her fake australian accent it is a parody and everything but couldn't they make it much more original.

  • this is dumb, its not the real XANADU!

  • He has a very beautiful voice. But I don't get her, the voice, or the frickin acting she's doing? What the heck? Terrible voice, terrible movements and weird stuff going on and she's funny looking. I know the show makes fun of the original movie (which is one of my faves of all time, cheesy as it is), but she's an idiot. ONJ was adorable and sweet as Kyra even though the movie was goofy.

  • @xenatikkanen This is a PARODY. The show is making fun of the movie.

  • I miss Xanadu! What an awesome show that was.. and I was there closing night which was double awesome!!!!

  • i love the way they sing this song,,,,where can i fine it

  • ughh.. its illegal how yummy he is!! lol

    ..too bad he's gay :(

  • I'm nottalking about the version from the movie. I mean the actual song that was a huge hit. I love Cheyenne and Cliff.

  • I love this song but I hate this version. Cliff and Oliva's was better!

  • I like the other one, but not as much as this one. This one's just cute when the other one's, you know, a little cheesy. This one's....SILLY. :]

  • I love how nervous Kerry looks when Cheyenne's pretending not to know how to skate. She's adorable.

  • HE IS SO F***ING HOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

    i got a kiss! ;)

  • Gah, he's so hot.

  • HE IS SO FINE!

  • Wow, he's such a giant on those skates!(But a sexy giant) Great video!

  • I lurve his face at 2:17....he's so fantastic

  • i love this clip but i HATE whoopi's intro. there's nothing "magical" about muses in the greek tradition (which is where our girl is). they are gods and goddesses so they have higher powers than humans, nothing magical. gosh!

  • Most likely the two kindest, nicest, caring people on Broadway, I've never met two nicer people.

and yeah.. for those who haven't seen it.. its a PARODY! the accent is supposed to be exaggerated!

  • Under the Fortune Palms Some people think meanings are hard to find In the 1980's decade of great emptiness Among the bungalows of Samarkand I stood under the fortune palms And watched for a sign to blow by In the throbbing Santa Ana But all that came my way Wass the remote echo of a woman's voice From down around Xanadu Street Callin gfor her dog to stay --Tom Clark
  • they can def' sing, and chayenne looks good to boot. green with envy you are.

  • well it's in consideration for the nomination for Best Musical with the Tony Awards.

Oh yeah neither can sing....they've only been training as singers for years *rolls eyes*.

  • Kerry Butler did such a great job. I loved her back in Hairspray. I must say: Whoopi Goldberg is the best xD

  • Yea I watched this before I went to see the musical in the theatre and it's really different! It's so much better when you see it on stage on Broadway. I was blown away..it was amazing. I couldn't stop laughing!

  • but where did he get the skates?

  • At 2:57 you can see someone running in with the skates right infront of him just as he flicks his right shoe off.

  • OMG! Your right! I never noticed that :).

  • how did he change his shoes into skates?

  • Watch his feet at 2:54...you can see he's starting to taken them off...notice at 3:31 he's got them both on and stands up on both where he grows a good foot. During that whole time the camera doesn't shoot anything below his knees until briefly at 3:37 when he shuts the telephone booth door.

  • Kerry Butler is amazing.

Would also be perfect to play Buffy if they ever did "Buffy the musical"

  • I SOOO agree :D

Seriously, when I saw the first seconds of the video I thought "What is Sarah Michelle Gellar doing there on skates?"

  • I get that it's a parody, and I'm glad that it's a parody (or else it would be terrible), but I can't get into it because it seems so overly smug. Maybe actually seeing the show would change my mind. ^_^

  • I saw the play two times and it was fantastic both times. I really hope this play lasts forever on broadway. The show is a MUST SEE. The music is the best ever and these actors are great. Do yourself a favor and go out and watch the show.

  • I saw Xanadu on Broadway on December 30, 2007 and let me tell you I LOVE IT! This was a BLAST! Yes, it's a parody, but the music is great and the show is fun. Kerry's accent is INTENTIONAL people - she's doing a parody of Olivia Newton-John. It's fun, upbeat, silly and extremely entertaining. I'm a huge fan of Cheyenne's which is mainly why we went, but it would have been great even if he wasn't there. If you have an OPEN mind, go check it out...but be ready to laugh till it hurts!

  • The show is supposed to be a spoof of the movie her accent is not supposed to be perfect, AKA there is nothing serious about the show, thats why its so great! ;)

  • I love the movie (just saw it on the big screen a week or two ago) but a Broadway show of Xanadu? Dunno about that one. Plus, what is up with Kerry's talking accent and voice? Is that intentional? So annoying. Her singing is great though...she sounds just like Olivia. Cheyenne is a whole lot of eye candy...much hotter than the guy in the movie.

  • kerry is brilliant!

  • why people can't stand a parody of something they love?

they made a great broadway show with a crappy movie

    congratulations producers!

  • Cheyanne Jackson is one of the most beautiful men alive.

  • Cheyenne Jackson rules! He's the best!

  • Cheyenne Jackson is my boyfriend. He doesn't know it, but he is.

  • I'm sorry to break it to you but he's cheating on you with me...

  • And he's cheating on both of you with me...

  • i got a kiss!
