  • You can find the method quite well explained and illustyrated in one of the Foxfire books, I don't remember which one bute there where six of them published I believe. Otherwise there is a book by Hershel House that shows the step-by-step of forging (wraping) boring, reaming and finally rifling a barrel the old style. These books are available through Dixie Gun Works, Buffalo Forge and others.

  • @chapiit08 It's in Foxfire 5. FYI there are 12 Foxfire books in the series and about 10 others that are devoted to other specific old time things like cooking, wine making, etc.

  • is it at all possible to make the same rifling in multiple barrels i know they dont but could a private barrel maker do it

  • I was looking on my bookshelf a couple days ago and saw my set of the FoxFire books. Check out FoxFire 5. Probably 1/3 of the book is devoted to rifle making and they cover rifling by hand.

  • I cut ml barrels on a homemade rack and pinion machine 1 grouve at a time. Good exercise, you walk about 3 miles 2 steps at a time rifling each barrel. You can make a nice accurate barrel if you take your time and pay attenion to business.

  • please add me to the list. Great subject... to bad the video is so short?:)

  • may i ask why you dont just hav a multi prong carbide cutter with an adjusting screw so it pushes the cutters out on a taper as you turn the screw. there would be less chance for erorr that way as it would be easier to re aligin when you adjust your tool as well as faster and more acurate. and there would not be a need to change to a different size of cutter, just a thought;)

  • @randoriremix This is just a reproduction of a rifling machine from the 1770's, probably just a bit too advanced for them.

  • I am also interested =)

  • Hi there mate. Do you knowmuch about this machine? It looks to me like the antique rifling machine I've been wanting to build. Do you have anymore info?

  • @jimtheman44567 I'll send you a reply here shortly. It would be a bit too long for the space provided!

  • @taylortownmayor same for me i want to know how to build this if you know about these and how can i possibly make it in different sizes?

  • @mike12703 I'll send you the note I sent Jim.

  • @taylortownmayor I'd also be very interested. Could it be possible for you to send me the note too?

  • @taylortownmayor

Could you forward that reply to me also? the history of industry is a hobby of mine.

Hope you receive this in good health,

    Beannacht.
