  • what ? i don't need a big cage ? 150/60/60 is good ?

how old are your male tupinambis ? what is him size ?

    (i'm frensh)

  • @padaw4n1 I assume you are speaking in terms of centimeters? LOL Bigger cages are recommended... my set ups were the BARE MINIMUM!

  • @JandDReptiles you dont know centimeters ? i have 150/65/65

i can use this for adulte male ?

  • @padaw4n1 I use inches... LOL! Not sure what the conoversion is... I'd recommend a cage that was a minimum of 6' long, by 3 feet wide, by 2 feet tall... not sure what the conversion is to CM though.

  • this guy knows his stuff

  • Any place in Canada I can get one? I have 2 beardies and these guys look cool. (Im breeding my beardies once they get older.) Oh and also, "She's going to probably just go back to sleep" then the Tegu's like yep... Then she just crawls away :P

  • @DylanBurke11 Not sure of place in Canada that work with these guys.

  • @JandDReptiles

So I recently just purchased a large male red tegu from a local expo because he was extremely calm and I handled him at the show and he was great. Very "cold" but great. After I got him into his new home and warmed up he became extremely nasty. I can't even take him out to feed him or handle him. I hate feeding him in the tank because he has a bad feeding response. Please help me

  • @bigdoggt That's the problem with buying Large tegus/monitors at shows... this happens a lot. Cold reptiles = not good to make assumptions on. When reptiles are cold they seem friendlier, until the heat is on! You need to build up trust with him, which will take a LONG time seeing as he is an adult...

  • does flooring matter when you let them out?

  • Is the bigger the cage the better? :)

  • @RavenFeathers99 For the most part. Obviously, they do not need a room, but yes, the larger the cage, especially for big males, the better!

  • How big do adult males grow, and are male or female tegus more energetic. Thanks for the help :D

  • How big dose an adult blue tegu cage need to be, would 8'x4'x4' be ok?

  • @ThePumpkinthecat Blues are on the smaller side for tegus, I'd say a 6x3x3 would be fine for an adult.

    -Jeremy T,

  • @JandDReptiles i mean im pretty sure you can make a good care video

  • How much are those 5 foot cages?

  • @JandDReptiles Okay, cool. I reeeaaaally want a tegu someday and I seriously doubt my parents will want a huge lizard in the house. XD

I will have one and I will name it Godzilla! And i will love it and cuddle it and give it kissies!

  • @JandDReptiles can you make a care video im pretty you can make a good one

  • can i house a male and female in the same inclousure

  • @reptilebreeder101 Not reccommended unless you have a HUGE enclosure

  • So whats your opinion on gu's needing enough substrate to burrow?? Because a lot of experts (such as Varnyard) show enclosures with enough substrate to burrow completely... But mine are on pretty much the same amount of substrate as yours and they seem fine...

  • @azgrem Tegus should have digging room... however, mine seem fine without it... though, in the summer when they are outside.... they do enjoy a good dig every so often! LOL

    -Jeremy T.

Owner of J and D Reptiles

  • @JandDReptiles Cool thanks for the advice! Mine never seem to burrow, I'll play it by ear and see what they want to do in the summer =)

  • @azgrem I have a very healthy tegu who never brrows, even with 1f of substrate, think with enough hides and places to cool down then the deep substrate is not essential

  • nice man u got any tips for me on my black and gold Col tegu to calm down outside his enclosure or bathtub

  • @rollitbakeit LOL!!!!! Columbian Tegus are known for being hard to tame.... they are more flighty than other species... they key is work with them slowly over time... handling and touching in the cage... then outside the cage when they get more comfortable with you.

  • @JandDReptiles thks man iv heard it all there meaner they cant be tamed all that but hes tamed down pretty nicely since i got him hes fine just bit skiddish still thks for the help gl with ur tegus

    -Jeremy T.

Owner of J and D Reptiles

  • @benjicaliman fucking hilarious xD

  • killer facial hair! LOL! Nice tegu tho need bigger cages tho

  • @eyebal1985 Thanks... LOL! Yea, they should be in larger cages... but they are out 90% of the time roaming the reptile room... thats why they are in smaller cages.

  • Whats would you recomend feeding them while they are still small? and do you feed you tegus calcium and vitamins ?

  • @Ch33syd00m Insects, and hard boiled eggs.... and pinkie mice. I do offer some vit. and calcium supplements!

  • hey im thinking about getting a blue tegu becuase im building a 16ft long X 3.5 tall 2 ft wide...but im getting the idea thats too big..is there such a thing as too big for a tegu??

  • @rephibiankid There is such a thing as too big...lol. For an Adult Blue Tegu a cage about 7' long X 3.5' Wide X 2.5' Tall. Blues are on the smaller size, and granted, they have huge home ranges, most of their time is spent searching for food, so in captivity, they need room to move, but they don't need anything too Big. Our Tegus are in smaller sized cages that offer them enough room to move, but we take them out a lot, so they can stretch.

  • @JandDReptiles so would that much space freek him out?? and what would happen if i did make it that big for him becuase he is going on the bottom row of a HUGE shelf of vision cages im making that is 16 foot long total and just making the whole bottom row his would be easy and i thought that he would love all the roaming space?

  • @rephibiankid Yes, it would freak him out. He could possibly stop eating, he would become harder to tame because hed believe he was in his own territory. making a cage like that would be too much.

  • could i put a very young tegu in the same large cage it will spend its whole life in, because i really don't want multiple cages. It seems you have loads of reptiles and i was wondering if they are one of the best for handling you own

  • @ProffesorChaosesFile Thats not the best idea. You should never put any baby or young animal in a cage that is too big. All the extra space can freak them out. They can get stressed and sick easily.

  • @JandDReptiles do all of them or just some have it is it like some kind of morph or something is yours male or female i have a female if your taking about the one in your video im geussing yours is male i would like to see what would happen if we breed the oranges bellys together cuz my is super super orange its crazy

  • @lsek4door My B/W is a female. Doubt it's a morph though... I think there would have been some discovery of it sooner.

  • what about digging? why dont you keep a diggable layer of substrate?

  • Digging, though tegus do it a lot, isn't easy to accoadate in enclsures such as this. There is also the point of not being able to find poo that can harbor diseases. I let my tegus run around a pen I have outside, they dig a lot out there. In smaller cages like these, it isn't easy for digging space.

  • would a 6x2ft / 7x2ft cage okay for a single adult male sav or b/w tegu?

  • a 6x3 foot would be ok for a male Argentine B/W tegu or sav.

  • Nice man! I love big lizards, and I want to give them larger than necessary cages, but I don't think room sized cages are needed for a b/w tegu or ig. But the animal matters.

Your tegus are so cool, they're so cute!

  • Thanks! I have a soft spot for larger herps! :) Bigger cages are better, but HUGE cages aren't necessary... but some people think they are. : - /

  • thank you!! i just got a columbian but plan to house a argentine with it is that ok??? im going to make a 12 foot long by 4 feet long

  • No problem... it's not a good idea to house tegus together... especially args, and colums. Keep the separate! Cage that big will be hell to clean too!

  • @JandDReptiles oh ok.. yahi know :/ but mine is a captive bred baby so i have a couple years before i have tobuild that lol

  • LOL.... oh yea... well the caging requirements are about the same... a higher temp is needed, and lower humidity.
