it is great movie..! it is shown not only in the the poorest country but also in the life of the inividual. i came from philippines and on the time i watch that movie, only one things that i can say to my self and to everybody that " everything happen has a puspose" and also" money can't buy happiness" but, the love that make us happen is the most and best gift that we want. how ironic it is that a rags to riches movie has its own rags to riches story within its cast. Im just awe struck at the amazing talent these kids have! I heard that the two youngest boys' parents squandered the money they had earned or something. Apparently Rubiana (youngest Latika) is well taken care-of with straight-thinking parents. The others not so much. I think the studio had set up education funds and trust funds that the parents couldn't touch and mess with.
Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismail were the only kids pulled right from the slums. The rest are more experienced actors/from richer families. Last I checked, for those two in particular, Fox Searchlight, Boyle and the producer had set up trust funds and were making sure their families were taken care of.
The reason those kids were at the oscars is because of the international controversy surrounding this film. The film company were shamed into improving their money and eventually they trotted them out for the oscars. The film company spent millions on publicity and in the end i guess they were happy to pay a bit more on top trying to look good. But the way the child actors and the co-director were treated initially was an absolute disgrace.
No...they was paid three times the annual salary of an adult for a few months work......Two of the kids were then given flats (the two who lived in slums) ...a trust fund was setup for them all. Danny wouldn't take advantage of them. A charity has also been setup to help all the kids in the slums. The negativity surrounding the kids were just lies.
The kids are still living in dharavi. Compared to some people living there there lives wont be so bad. But compared to Dev Patel or Danny Boyle what do you reckon?

So yes, money is used for their future, a lot can be done with 3x an adult's annual salary.

it is great movie..! it is shown not only in the the poorest country but also in the life of the inividual. i came from philippines and on the time i watch that movie, only one things that i can say to my self and to everybody that " everything happen has a puspose" and also" money can't buy happiness" but, the love that make us happen is the most and best gift that we want. The film company behaved disgustingly. And Danny Boyle was still at it as he played the ever so humble boy made good from radcliffe. Questioned he said that money given to the kids had disappeared. The film company have been busy spinning that the kids parents have taken all the money. Utter scum it is the film company who are guilty of that. And day by day as the scandal has grown they have done what they can to put a lid on it. Still vermin though.

It would not surprise me at all that the parents got the money. Hopefully it went to the kids future, but it wouldn't surprise me that most of it didn't.

how ironic it is that a rags to riches movie has its own rags to riches story within its cast. Im just awe struck at the amazing talent these kids have! To be honest I have yet to see this kind of talent yet, not even within hollywood. I wish the best of luck to all these kids, I now their lives are changed for the better, congrats!

I heard that the two youngest boys' parents squandered the money they had earned or something. Apparently Rubiana (youngest Latika) is well taken care-of with straight-thinking parents. The others not so much. I think the studio had set up education funds and trust funds that the parents couldn't touch and mess with.

Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismail were the only kids pulled right from the slums. The rest are more experienced actors/from richer families. Last I checked, for those two in particular, Fox Searchlight, Boyle and the producer had set up trust funds and were making sure their families were taken care of.

The reason those kids were at the oscars is because of the international controversy surrounding this film. The film company were shamed into improving their money and eventually they trotted them out for the oscars. The film company spent millions on publicity and in the end i guess they were happy to pay a bit more on top trying to look good. But the way the child actors and the co-director were treated initially was an absolute disgrace.

No...they was paid three times the annual salary of an adult for a few months work......Two of the kids were then given flats (the two who lived in slums) ...a trust fund was setup for them all. Danny wouldn't take advantage of them. A charity has also been setup to help all the kids in the slums. The negativity surrounding the kids were just lies.

When this came out the film company did their best to discredit the parents of the kids. One of the many offensive things they said was that one of the parents had used the money for their own TB drugs. Most are ignorant of dozens of wonderful movies like this that are initially on a budget but were not successful. Slumdog was lucky. This is absolutley sick.....He basically used the kids and their situation, and naivity to make profit, to make his mark in film industry, its the same thing as what he is showing in the movie, just not as brutal. the point is they used kids to make money, it doesn't matter what way......

Sometimes roots are overdug. This film is better than the average Hollywood garbage. Besides you'll find that the child actors were paid three times the annual salary an adult would be paid in the same neighbourhood. So yes, money is used for their future, a lot can be done with 3x an adult's annual salary.
