How about this: vote for expenditures with income tax forms? The $30G limit would prevent superrich beneficiaries of high profit industries from exercising undue influence.

My criticism is of Cenk and all those who fight against raising the age for social security. When you have an entitlement program that is based on demographics, then the program should be adjusted according to changes in those demographics. 65 year old americans are a lot healthier than they were in 1935 and people are living longer. And time-and-time again I hear Cenk say he cares a lot about the deficit and blames the repubs. and conservative dems for all the financial problems.

Okay I partially take back what I said. For some reason I was under the impression that Social Security was projected to have a deficit in the future, but now I don't think that's true. I am still for raising the retirement age but not for the reason repubs want to do it. I think that cuts to SS should be made for two reasons:1) to decrease the tax burden on the young, and 2) to encourage people keep working for more years into their old age. Both of these things will foster. . .
the Bush era tax cuts, raising taxes while in a recession might not be a good idea. In a perfect world the tax cuts would be extended until the economy recovers and then the would be immediately removed. However, it is better to let them expire now than never at all. The real irony is that the amount of tax money that would come from allowing the tax cuts to expire ONLY FOR THE RICH is minuscule compared to the actual size of the projected deficit.

But I have yet to hear an actual argument about a flaw in the groups math that they used to estimate the crowd for the rallies. I simply hear arguments basically saying "well their numbers don't match what Beck said, so it's clearly false for this bullshit reason". No burning in trash cans....no fireplace burning. We're hearing the same thing from Van Jones that we hear from everyone associated with the administration--the problems are the fault of Obama supporting citizens who just aren't supporting him enough.
But when Obama starts opposing policies that he supported during the 2008 campaign and caused us to vote for him, what are we supposed to do? All we can do is now oppose him, which is what has happened. This whole argument makes no sense.

Cenk is a total hypocrite. He claims to be a proponent of fiscal austerity but then he throws a hissy fit at the idea of reforming entitlement programs. He's in favor of raising taxes on the wealthy but he does not seem to understand that fixing the deficit will involve BOTH raising taxes AND cutting entitlement spending. And in terms of actually results, a bigger dent in the deficit will be made raising the retirement age than will be made by allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire.

My criticism is of Cenk and all those who fight against raising the age for social security. When you have an entitlement program that is based on demographics, then the program should be adjusted according to changes in those demographics. 65 year old americans are a lot healthier than they were in 1935 and people are living longer. And time-and-time again I hear Cenk say he cares a lot about the deficit and blames the repubs. and conservative dems for all the financial problems.

@levybh I understand that and their will have to be cuts and reorganizing in entitlement programs.Anyone who is a realist can see that.But its very hard to say ok lets cut benifits to seniors even tho SS has brought in more than it payed out 4 many years.We spent that money on tax cuts wars and ear marcs.And the deficit commission is calling 4 cuts to SS while advoacting more tax cuts for the wealthy.That I am against.

....economic growth. I think that the three largest sources of the deficit in the years to come are 1) wars in iraq and afghan. 2) bush era tax cuts 3) economic downtown. I am mostly interested in fixing the economy and fostering its growth. However it would be a TERRIBLE idea dip into to the SS suplus to help pay for the other sources of the deficit, all while leaving the tax burden on the young the same. @levybh Ask your self if you care about the deficit shouldnt you oppose extending the bush tax cuts.The cuts were written by the Republicans to expire this year not the dems.All of the Republican budget projections called for them to expire.They didnt create jobs they have been in place for 9 years and in those 9 years we have had the lowest job creation numbers in decades.Those tax cuts will add 4 trillion in to the national debt over the next 10 years.

Trash the pres as wanting to raise taxes for being aginst extending them. and C.After they are extended they will blame the pres and the dems for the size of the debt and deficit.Its disengenous and it shows what the republican party really wants.Lower tax rates for the extremely wealth and to be back in power at all cost

Okay I partially take back what I said. For some reason I was under the impression that Social Security was projected to have a deficit in the future, but now I don't think that's true. I am still for raising the retirement age but not for the reason repubs want to do it. I think that cuts to SS should be made for two reasons:1) to decrease the tax burden on the young, and 2) to encourage people keep working for more years into their old age. Both of these things will foster. . .

the Bush era tax cuts, raising taxes while in a recession might not be a good idea. In a perfect world the tax cuts would be extended until the economy recovers and then the would be immediately removed. However, it is better to let them expire now than never at all. The real irony is that the amount of tax money that would come from allowing the tax cuts to expire ONLY FOR THE RICH is minuscule compared to the actual size of the projected deficit.

I hated Jones' answer to the first question. The WHOLE POINT of representative democracy is that we elect REPRESENTATIVES to REPRESENT US. His notion that we shouldnt expect our representatives to do the things we elected them to do unless we're constantly on the streets begging them is absurd.

@MrDustock CBS used the same company to estimate both crowds. 87,000 and 215,000 I believe were the 2 numbers (with the former being Beck's crowd and the latter being Stewart's).
I'm simply just tired of people thinking Glenn Beck is this voice that speaks for the majority of Americas so naturally, his rally has to be larger. He's not and it wasn't.

@MrDustock We aren't exactly debating polling statistics here. It's pretty basic math. But I have yet to hear an actual argument about a flaw in the groups math that they used to estimate the crowd for the rallies. I simply hear arguments basically saying "well their numbers don't match what Beck said, so it's clearly false for this bullshit reason". Math isn't liberal or conservative (except for statistics which I'm very much aware can be spun).

I agree with Van Jones, and I felt irritated with Cenk (unusual) because he insisted on making the conversation about Obama's failure. I think Obama has done a lousy job. At the same time, I've had it with many bloggers, because it seems they live for the failures. Reading the Huffington Post or watching Democracy Now! it seems that people are thrilled with all the lousy news because it proves they're right. The left has done precious little organizing in the past two years.

The reason it fizzled so fast is because we're so wired for instant gratification. The current political-economic situation is like a boulder rolling down a hill. It can't be stopped suddenly without great ramifications. It needs to be slowed down in increments and we're not patient enough for that.

Plus, the supreme authority... Look, there is some conflict of value inside the constitution: however, it does say in your constitution that the government have to act for the greater wealth of the population. So, as long as one guy do something somewhat good for us, I don't really give a damn.
