You can sort of see that Michael Flatley's ego hasn't quite kicked in yet, so he just seems to be enjoying the performance, rather than basking in it. Simply amazing.
I remember watching this in my living room when I was living in London. Now I wasn't an avid Eurovision fan but decided to watch it as it was coming from Ireland. Well my jaw dropped, I was dumbfounded, it was so amazing and to this day everytime I watch it the hairs stand up on the back of my head. This is what we are capeable of doing in Ireland so plenty of hope for the future in these tough times.

I remember seeing this in 1994. Eurovision interval acts are usually pretty crass, but this one overshadowed everything else in that years show, and showed that in spite of all the criticism, Eurovision has launched a lot of very good things over the years.

Though, if my memory serves me correctly, Ireland did win that year, with Niamh Kavanagh and the song "In Your Eyes"... I kinda wished I'd never seen it so I get the maximum impact the next time I watch it. I've seen it so many times now I've started giving the backing dancers names.

i love the way when they introduce it at the start the audience claps lightly, no1 was expecting such an amazing performance, its a pity the world wants cocky, tacky people to make money rather than just stick to pure talent... if we can come come up with an amazingly performed dance like river dance im sure if we actually sat down and put alot of effort into it the irish could come out with something to competely shock the world, but they went with jedward another poplularity stunt! no effort

This is not good because two people can do an annoyingly complex routine. It's good because twenty people can do a not-so-annoying-yet-still-fairly-complex routine, in perfect syncopation, complete with music. I love the Irish.

I watched this at the time in 1994 and it was sensational! It was no wonder the audience erupted in applause at such a sensational performance. Ireland also introduced the world to the Hot House Flowers during the interval another year it hosted Eurovision - talent, talent, talent!
Theres something about this performance, the atmosphere at the beginning. Not to mention THAT SOUND those metal plates striking off the ground is like an instrument itself and the unison of the whole troop at the end, it is immense
What the hell happened to THIS Ireland. Irish people are extremely talanted, recession or no recession we have got to get BACK out there. Even Jedward bad as they are were created by an English show. What's going on? Why did the good times have to end when I'm ready to enjoy them.

@lilou1003 Correction: it took an American to COMMERCIALIZE Irish dancing. People knew loooooong before him that the Irish are awesome. The Irish simply have an innate sense of humility and avoid talking up their talents as crassly as many cultures are encouraged to.
Its amazing how different the contest is now, I dont just mean the acts, but look how everyone in the audience was dressed tuxedo's, ball-gowns etc. where as now everyones in jeans, t-shirts n that.

What's easy to forgot is how this performance was like a giant trigger being pulled on launching Ireland into a decent modern society. This threw off the shackles of Catholic guilt repression and heralded a new Ireland, confident, free, unabashed and proud. More's the pity then that we fucked it up after that then big time.

@marco2often No offense, but the actual Riverdance soundtrack ("Riverdance: Music From the Show") is also available to buy, and I'd rather buy that over music "inspired by" the show. Especially since three tracks include the tapping.
(Though I absolutely hear you on the Lord of the Dance soundtrack. I don't like the show, but Ronan Hardiman's music is epic.)

I watched this at the time in 1994 and it was sensational! It was no wonder the audience erupted in applause at such a sensational performance. Ireland also introduced the world to the Hot House Flowers during the interval another year it hosted Eurovision - talent, talent, talent!

Theres something about this performance, the atmosphere at the beginning. Not to mention THAT SOUND those metal plates striking off the ground is like an instrument itself and the unison of the whole troop at the end, it is immense

What the hell happened to THIS Ireland. Irish people are extremely talanted, recession or no recession we have got to get BACK out there. Even Jedward bad as they are were created by an English show. What's going on? Why did the good times have to end when I'm ready to enjoy them.

@mcjmetroid I think matey, even though its an English show, we are open to many! England is like a central hub of just lots of British shows, mainly because we are the biggest land mass (Could be wrong but hey).
I think your right in showing maybe identity of your country through talent, but it will happen, just when the time comes. What great English talent is really being reflected everywhere?

@lilou1003 Correction: it took an American to COMMERCIALIZE Irish dancing. People knew loooooong before him that the Irish are awesome. The Irish simply have an innate sense of humility and avoid talking up their talents as crassly as many cultures are encouraged to.

Its amazing how different the contest is now, I dont just mean the acts, but look how everyone in the audience was dressed tuxedo's, ball-gowns etc. where as now everyones in jeans, t-shirts n that.

What's easy to forgot is how this performance was like a giant trigger being pulled on launching Ireland into a decent modern society. This threw off the shackles of Catholic guilt repression and heralded a new Ireland, confident, free, unabashed and proud. More's the pity then that we fucked it up after that then big time.

@marco2often No offense, but the actual Riverdance soundtrack ("Riverdance: Music From the Show") is also available to buy, and I'd rather buy that over music "inspired by" the show. Especially since three tracks include the tapping.
(Though I absolutely hear you on the Lord of the Dance soundtrack. I don't like the show, but Ronan Hardiman's music is epic.)
