These cars come stock with 303 crank hp, not sure where you're getting 340 hp from. And CAI and cat-back does NOT add 40 hp...This car has like 315 hp to the crank.
Grand prix NEVER came standard with a 3 speed tranny. Good luck installing that larger pulley, I'm sure you will gain a lot of HP. post a video would love to see it
The GXP weighs a considerable amount more than the SRT-4 and has a larger coefficient of drag. The SRT-4 does not have a governor, it is drag/power limited to 155. At that speed both the minor differences in horsepower and speedometer variations can make the top speed read anywhere from 150 to 158 stock, depending on the car. Just a 2% deviation on the speedometer (3% is average) can be 3 mpg at 150 mph.
@yungc1019 Another problem with these cars is their transmission. A car should NOT be getting out of second gear at 95 MPH, that's stupid. My Audi? 1st gear 40, 2nd 65, 3rd 95, 4th 118, 5th Who Knows? This is what gives me the ability to kick into passing gear at 100+ MPH. I'd invite one of these cars to try to keep up with my little two cylinder.
mine had a three speed auto trans with the sports shift option 1st 30, 2nd 65, 3rd topped out at 110 since all of my mods and an upgraded 4 spd trans its now 1st 35, 2nd 65, 3rd 90, 4th is who knows.
These cars have a ton of torque management on them. Once tuned out these cars can hold there own. Cat-back CAI and Tune will get this car into the 13's. And no your GTP would not smoke it....Stock that is.
mine has upgraded boost controls, a bigger pully, i had it professionally tuned and a 4spd transmission instead of the stock three, and a full exaust system with custom headers bent just for my car.
when i got it it did 0-60 in maybe 8 seconds it now does it in about 5. now i'm just waiting to flash my ecu to help free up another sec or two and i gaurentee i'll have the fastest gtp in the state of TN.

@tjohanson nope larger pulley.. if you go smaller yeah you can go down in horsepower.. but if tuned just right you'll gain much more than a stock pulley.. if you just throw it on there yeah you'll go down about 12-20 hp.
Sweet run and sweet car, but I figured your acceleration would have been quicker than that with the LS4 under the hood. My '01 Seville pulls about the same and is capable of similar top speeds without the limiter. You would certainly have a better launch though. Oh well, V8s FTW!

Most speeds over 130 unless radar verified are about 7-10 mph less...... Or, if you have a Calibrated speedo such as in a police car... You may have hit 145-147 but that's it..... Pretty stupid camera work too....
Thats 154 indicated guys, you can be as much as 10mph wrong at that speed, still super nice cars these, I have the LS3 powered 430bhp HSV R8, I have seen an indicated 160mph so far, delimited they claim 170+ lol...........no private roads around here to try that one tho :P
my buddy an i got his up to 156ish.. it was past the 155 mark. I'll try to get a video, this was before: his new tune, Ported TB/TBS(Matched up with the intake mani)/Intake and exhaust Manifolds, DEI wrap on manis and crossover, HS 1.8 rockers, Comp oil restrictive push rods, PAC 918 Springs. Defiantly pulls a lot harder down low. Gutting cat soon, might help with the exhaust flow or it might kill it b/c of lack of back pressure.
haha have you tried holding a camera going that fast. its not always that easy to hold something steady even if youre the passenger especially at that kind of speed

OverKill Motorsports is the place to go for custom PCMs. It will cost you a little over $200, but a small price for the GP enthusiast. Don't get any of those crappy chips, they only trick your engine into thinking it's always cold outside and screw up your mileage.
Yes same here.... I got it to 160 and backed off. Now I also had the comp reprogrammed for performance. I dont recomend doing this as a "full time" setting. But for single speed runs there should be no damage.
Also those of you with the limiter questions....... the programmer will take care of that as well. but if you are wanting your warranty to be any good always reinstall the original program.

i have a gxp also. while reading reviews on the impala and the gxp, the impala has a final drive ratio that makes it faster off of the line but it sacrifices the top speed. Kinda similiar to the differences between putting a 3.73 rear end in a car or a 4.10. The 4.10's will launch you off of the line, but you'll top out sooner.

The Impala SS is like 200 lbs heavier than the GXP & it was faster than the in the magazines. They say it's due to the better 3.23 gearing. If these gears could be put into a car with the same engine that weighs 200 lbs less, I bet the GXP would really haul ass. Just wanted to know if that was possible? Thanks again.

Adding more boost will just increase knock and then you lose power.
You can make more power on the stock pulley with more timing than a smaller pulley with no timing.

my buddy an i got his up to 156ish.. it was past the 155 mark. I'll try to get a video, this was before: his new tune, Ported TB/TBS(Matched up with the intake mani)/Intake and exhaust Manifolds, DEI wrap on manis and crossover, HS 1.8 rockers, Comp oil restrictive push rods, PAC 918 Springs. Defiantly pulls a lot harder down low. Gutting cat soon, might help with the exhaust flow or it might kill it b/c of lack of back pressure.

@donjo19 yep if the car is pretty new you might get a smooth ride lol i had a grand am that started to shake at 95 then stopped at 100 lol and the impala had a speed limiter so the engine stopped itself at 115 and my crappy century loves to shake rattle and roll. but Most cars shake whether you like it or not :)

Yea when I had my 05 GP GT with just a 3800 I got her up to 130 w/o the limiter but I could see her doing 140 eventually.

OverKill Motorsports is the place to go for custom PCMs. It will cost you a little over $200, but a small price for the GP enthusiast. Don't get any of those crappy chips, they only trick your engine into thinking it's always cold outside and screw up your mileage.

Yes same here.... I got it to 160 and backed off. Now I also had the comp reprogrammed for performance. I dont recomend doing this as a "full time" setting. But for single speed runs there should be no damage.

i have a gxp also. while reading reviews on the impala and the gxp, the impala has a final drive ratio that makes it faster off of the line but it sacrifices the top speed. Kinda similiar to the differences between putting a 3.73 rear end in a car or a 4.10. The 4.10's will launch you off of the line, but you'll top out sooner.

In another run after some tuning I was able to get the car up to 158mph. I'm tring to hit the 160 mark in this car just to see if it can do it.

Hey man, great videos! I have a question for you... Is there anyway to swap out the 3.23 gears from the 06+ Impala SS into the GP GXP? The Impala SS is like 200 lbs heavier than the GXP & it was faster than the in the magazines. They say it's due to the better 3.23 gearing. If these gears could be put into a car with the same engine that weighs 200 lbs less, I bet the GXP would really haul ass. Just wanted to know if that was possible? Thanks again.
