  • Great summary video.

  • only cereal I can eat is uncle sam original, it has 10 grams fiber, high in protein per serving. I use whole milk it lowers gi even more. I use stone ground flour for pancakes, the egg and milk in there plus coconut oil lowers the gi even more. nutritonal defeicency cause insulin resistance not spikes in insulin. we need enough fats, calcium vita d to metabolis glucose in the cell while protecting it from free radicals. fat cells buffer sugar when insulin resist. this is part how I understand.

  • Thank you for posting this video. You make it easy to understand.

  • great video. makes it easier to understand the glycemic index. thanks for posting your informative video.

  • great video. makes it easier to understand the glycemic index. thanks for posting your informative video.

  • Thanks for the tips: we have been trying to lower my wifes blood sugar and you taught us a few things.

  • Simple and thorough. Thank you. There are a lot of information on the net and thankfully, you made understanding the glycemic index simple and easy. Dr. Parasram Maharaj.

  • Great discussion. Please emphasize that carbohydrates must be consumed with vegetables only..not with meat or fruits or juices. Fruits and juices must be consumed by themselves on an empty stomach.

  • @exchangecafe

What is this? I just had rice and beans and my "wise" roomate recommended adding sausage and chicken to it. I feel like waste. What's the science behind this?

  • then why do you have GMO food pictures in the back ground, wake up we are not your ginni pigs

  • thanks a lot ! My question is, for people with high blood sugar level but want to put some weight because they are skinny, what kind of food they should it?

  • So basically if it tastes good, dont eat it.

  • what in the world????

what am i gonna eat now !!!!!

  • very interesting and helpful :)

  • Awesome Video!!!

  • What's a safe way to eat foods that has high GI? I heard that you can eat a protein with it to slow it down. Is this true?

  • cant stevia cause infertility in men?

  • I thought rice cakes were good :(.

Thanks for explaining about the GI index

  • I put almond Milk,2 bananas, some grapes and blueberries into a blender and make a shake...would that be considered processed?...is this too much sugar?

  • a 'processed food' has undergone a manufacturing or refining 'process' which changes foods from their natural state. Anything canned, packaged or frozen has been processed. Your shake is high calorie energy dense, especially almonds and bananas. Reduce to 1 banana per day and try using low fat soy milk. Why are you using almond milk? are you body building?

  • I run 35-80 minutes a day..many times at a mountain preserve here in phoenix (lots of rugged up and down anaerobic work) also I practice music everyday ussually focusing on clarinet,singing,guitar..1 or all or a mix of those for a couple hours a day which is very physical..plus I do 30 to 90 minutes of yoga also..and try to get mini workouts on a mini-trampoline..so I am very physical and I already have a hearty appetite..I like to keep my strength up but not gain mass..

  • thanks for the info!

    I appreciate the response.

It is good to be able to communicate with people on the other side of the globe!

  • You're very attractive Radhia.

  • Wow, very informative. Great video!

  • best food to get rid of diabetus is this; BEANS

my one and only source of carbs.

  • refried?

  • NO, NOT refried! Try to avoid anything fried... unless you want cardiovascular disease with hardened arteries that leads to coronary artery disease, angina, heart attacks, stroke, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, etc... Starting out, choose tinned salad beans, rinse with water to remove salty packing fluid, and add to salads or rice or soup or stews, etc. They're already cooked, so eat cold or hot. Add chili or finely chopped salad onions for zing. Later, you might try cooking dried beans.

  • if you are vegetarian, you need to include rice or bread with the beans to make 'complete proteins'.

  • Can someone please help me. Is this a good bread to eat, from the brand 'Sunnyvale'. Bread is called:

    Sunnyvale Organic Sprouted Wheat Bread.

It is advertised as 'Yeast Free, Egg Free, Dairy Free and Rich in Protein'

And the Ingredients are said to be: Sprouted whole Organic wheat (100%)

  • Yes, all sprouted grains are very good carbs. I personally use Ezekiel but this sounds just as good.

  • There is very little scientific evidence suggesting health benefits of one type of wheat bread over another. If you don't have any food allergies, simply choose multigrain or wholemeal over white breads, and preferably stone ground. If you have weight concerns, heavy breads fill you up faster. Read the package label and choose one with the lowest sodium count. No need to buy expensive brands, so don't get caught up in misleading advertising. Enjoy!

  • It's incredible how things work about nutrition and how this major comanies are screwing us everyday with all their products full of hydrogenated fats and simple sugars.....Thank you Radhia!!! You are awesome!!!

  • Hi there:

I was shocked to see how much sugar skim milk has and no wonder my sugar levels went up after breakfast.

I now use Almond Milk and find it does not increase my sugar.

What are you feelings about Almond Milk ?

  • Skimmed Milk is low it cannot make your blood sugar rise.

  • is milk a simple carb?

  • Advanced Nutrition like the soil??? anyone?

  • You know what would be a good videos series would be you taking us the viewer on a weeks grocery trip, or on several grocery trips...When I go to the grocery store there is so much chaos that I don't feel I have more than a few seconds to look at what I want to get,,because there is someone trying to get by or..the persons working there think I'm being a nuisance..so it can be hard to go someplace and look around..for those reasons..

  • Very informative..I'm very grateful for your nutrition videos..The vocabulary that you use I will look up on google and wikipedia and online dictionaries..

    thank you

  • you have the best videos on nutrition! thank you so much

  • Very interesting info, thanks. Perhaps you may want to read John Robbins book Diet Revolution before recommending any dairy products such as cheese.

  • The glycemic index tells you how quickly a carbohydrate-containing food turns into sugar, but it doesnt tell you how much carbohydrate is in a serving of a food. To assess the full impact of a food on blood sugar levels you should have an idea of both. This is where glycemic load comes in. Great presentation again, but it would have been nice for you to incorporate the glycemic load vs the G.I index.

  • Hi! I did read about phytic acid in whole grains and how it makes less available the calcium ,magnesium ,iron and zinc... sprouting ,soaking brakes this down but is it really a serious problem or it's just overstated?

  • Unless you have serious health or allergy issues, you don't need to worry about what happens on a molecular level. You just need to include a variety of different coloured vegetables every day. Keep grains to a minimum, while introducing some beans or legumes as the most useful carbs. Cut back or eliminate animal products and try using soy-based products as a substitute in recipes.

  • This video is very helpful. Thank you so much for sharing this info.

  • Your great! ......very informative..... I will be sharing this video with all my friends and family. :) Thanks

  • what about instant oats? is this refined?

  • such good information! thanks!

  • thanks for the information

  • D'oh. Almost everything I like to eat is high on the GI Index... except for berries. At least, I switched to brown rice pasta last summer. Good to know.

  • Any info about hummus in terms of GI and snack - is it acceptable? You mentioned pita chips and hummus is such a natural with hummus.

    Thanks!

  • VITAMIX

  • Thanks!

  • Note to self: PUT THE ICE CREAM SANDWICH DOWN.

    LMAO!

  • great videos keep them coming

  • I read a piece of research by journal in the UK. The research indicated that for your body to absorb nutrients in fruit and vegetables that the fibre and pith must be present. So juice alone is not very effective. The research was used by the UK gov to defend against lobbying by juice manufacturers to have VAT removed. They considered that apple juice is just as good as an apple etc.

  • Good insight! Thanks for sharing this!

  • thank you for the very interesting video, i always enjoy the indepth videos on health and the body by miss radhia :)

  • I heard that its the "juice" that feeds you and that fiber is used phisiologicaly ??? Mind you this was on a infomercial for a juicer. What do you think of fresh juice that is juiced fresh from a juicer?

  • Id say fresh from a juicer you own is good. my grandmother has doctors orders to juice veggies and fruits for her diabetes. I think Radhia was refering to the packaged juices like OceansSpray, Welchs, Dole, etc.

  • GREAT INFO, THOUGH!!!!!!!

  • YOU COULD KICK MY BUTT!

  • i say that because of your perfect lecturing/teaching/presentation form

mmm..i love your form...i wish i could share you with the world but youtube is already doing that so i'm super jealous of youtube for that... if u ever needed a reason to keep doing this? send me a msg - pls don't stop

  • dear radhia...

do u want to marry me?

  • Great video.

Excessive sugar makes my face really red, and I have been wondering about molasses.

I eat my oatmeal with molasses and raisins, so perhaps I need to modify that :)

  • to truthsabre cause nutritionist are not 20 something year old whores to lust after and over 40 yr-old mothers are all ugly wicked witches

  • Perhaps because you don't know what a healthy person looks like?

    She "looks" healthy to me.

Plus, how do you know what her cholesterol, (et cetera) levels are?

  • So why do healthy people need make up to look better?

  • It appears, truthsabre7, that you're assuming "good-looking" is the same as "healthy". Not always true. Depends who you ask.

  • Uh, what? I'm fairly certain most women wear a bit of makeup. If they don't - good for them. People don't wear makeup because they feel unhealthy. Being pretty is not the same as being healthy. Not to say she isn't pretty, by all means.

  • natalie doesnt

  • because they're all alcoholics

  • I dont see how she looks unhealthy? She looks extraordinarily healthy to me, thick hair, nice skin, good complection? This is unhealthy? WHat about her is not healthy??

  • Thanks Radhia. Excellent and very engaging video as always.

  • Comment removed

  • Very useful vid.

  • hey psyche truth can you gives your point of view in the porcine virus?

  • is it ok if we have a juicer and juice our fruits and veggies? or is that a bad thing?

  • If you juice the fruits, what's left over is the fiber. It is always better to eat what has not been juiced. You get the benefit of the fiber as well as the nutrients in the juice.

  • what..... wheres the other girl

  • the one thats just there for sex appeal and subs?

  • Since when does a woman have to be unattractive in order to be intelligent ?

  • i never ever said that

  • Did you need 2 make this a 22 min video???? PLEASE break this up into two or three parts!! Thank You!!!!

    Five Stars!!

  • oh why all my favorite healthy foods are high in sugar. not fair.

  • Yep....It really sucks.

  • This has by far been the best and most informative in this series. Excellent video, Radhia!

  • wat about quick oats?

  • their good but try steel cut or oat groats.

  • I didn't hear you talk about Glycemic Load. Even though carrots are in the mid range on GI the GL is very low.

  • you have a cool name :)

  • Sweet potatoes are different from Yams, which are white!! I'm surprised you use them synonymously

  • Thank you...VERY educational, this is gold.

  • also raw milk cheese too. I can't wait for the protein video. I lift weight all the time and look to build muscle and burn fat.

  • I'm a bit surprised that so much focus is on GI and not GL ... for example watermelon GL is low ...

  • What is the Glycemic Index??? Advanced Nutrition

Is the title, thats why it's not focused on the GL.

  • After watching this I'm convinced Purina should come out with Human Chow; after all they have Monkey Chow, Sheep Chow, Rodent Chow and Horse Chow. This would make it simple for everyone.

  • Thank you for making these videos! I have benefitted greatly from them. Knowledge is power, and when you know how your food affects your body, you can control it.

  • Radhia, you're awesome, but do something with your hair!

    Your videos are really helpful!!!

  • Very interesting, very helpful, I love this kind of information.

Im wondering what you think about raw cacao as a snack and xylitol as a substitue sugar, what are the pro's and cons?

  • Good one
