  • Frank zappa would have enjoyed the Residents I think.

  • The greatest music group in my eyes. Thanks for sharing, rossarooney.

  • wow this video used to have like 300 views

  • I assure you that these people are NOT The Residents.

  • I dont know why you do this.... is stupid. you dont win anything doing it this. is your form of revenge?

  • Comment removed

  • I call bullshit because I can't believe there's actually people under them masks.

  • Wheres the big deal?

  • They thought I was weird when I interviewed them ...what. ten years ago, at the Magic Stick, in Detroit. Get lazy, buy a synth sampler. Ho hum...

  • My theory is as following: Homer and Hardy are the two main members, while they switch from time to time with other artists. It explains why they are the managers of the group, they know all about them, etc. etc.

They 'left' Cryptic sometime later to make it all less suspicious :P

It also explains the different musical styles they had over the years.

Could somebody tell me the rumour that N. Seneda was actualy Cpt Beefheart? Would be fucking sweet!

  • this is fake! we all know dead McCartney was one of them too!

  • i just met homer and hardy 2 nights ago in philly for the first time. i hung outside the tour bus for an hour like a big star struck dork. nolan is a tall man. they were all nice and cordial. i shook their hands thanked them for the great show bit them adeiu.. and went on my very merry way...

  • @MrJonasimage How did they feel about being bit??

  • @toopoable awesome!

  • I wish I didn't see this. I didn't want to know how the residents looks. I love them cause I don't know who they are. I really hope these photos are fake.

  • Hey bro, I grew up around the residents when I was a kid in SF, I think I remember that Hardy guy when I was a kid but ur off the mark on who they are. Kudos though.

  • @2StrikeGangstaKilla you grew up around Hardy? really? Somehow "2StrikeGangstaKilla" doesn't strike me as a screen name a 65 year old person would choose.

  • this is greatness infinite

  • love these guys.....

  • the resindents come from another planet, watch E.T and u will understand

  • the sycamore street place used to have music shows even in the 90s (post-The Residents). i played there w/ my band once.

  • Hey rossarooney. Do you know Roland Sheehan. He moved to CA from North Louisiana with the residents . He is a good friend of mine and has told me some crazy stories about the guys. Says he used to jam with Snake Finger and helped write a song called Rusty Coat Hangers for the Doctor with the guys way back when. He owned a copy of Santa Dog with a personal message from Homer and many 1st limited prints of the early albums. Thought you might remember him. He is a pretty good keyboard player

  • @brokedownwilly I don't remember him. We did'nt come along until after the Rez had lived in Ca for awhile. I had a R-R copy of 'Rusty Coat Hangers' that I played on KBOO and promoted in heavy rotation 'Santa Dog' I, too have the original, signed copy of 'Santa' that we used on the air.

  • Everyone knows Homer Flynn is the singer for the Residents. He rarely wears a mask and it's obviously him. As to the identity of the other Residents, that has always been a mystery but my guess is that they probably change members constantly and that none of the original eyeball men are still with them.

  • @BabyWetsAllNight I don't believe the Residents were all men , I know there were there a few women involved as well , I think .

  • @Pinky39559 i know a woman who sang w/ them on "third reich and roll"

  • @Pinky39559 Yeah, the operative word is "think." Guys write and have written the best music, period. This has been proven time and time again. Sorry that's just how the cookie blows.

  • @BabyWetsAllNight There were women, girlfriends of the Rez in the early days that hung around and added vocal background occasionally. Homer and Hardy are the only original Rez and do all the creative work. The musicians are mostly studio session players who come and go as the shows and recordings evolve.

  • @rossarooney were there really four of them??? did john kennedy and jay clem really leave in 1982???

  • @BabyWetsAllNight dude. u r an idiot. it is because you are not a big enough fan. hardy fox is the guy in the thumbnail picture. snakefinger was considered the third resident. there have been many collaborators with the residents. they have always had a mysterious loom purposely saying there is a 4th resident. in all reality, there have been many many 4th residents. thats why in the talking light show they have the thing about the 4th resident and carlos and that. fuck yourself

  • Nah Nah Nah!! The Residents are in fact the Beatles.

  • I only wish they did this song on the Talking Light show.

  • It doesnt matter who they are.

  • so the whole "David Lynch" being a member of the Residents thing is just bull shit?

  • @jojoluvtool Of course, people will believe anything! David Lynch is actually much more talented and famous.

  • @rossarooney so tell me who they are lol!!!!

  • @rossarooney just like how any one might believe that these actually are the residents... not saying they arent... just throwing it out there

  • @jojoluvtool Of course, people will believe anything! David Lynch is actually much more talented and famous.

  • So did they bounce between San francisco and here. I thought they resided in San Frnacisco through most of the 70s and 80s.

  • can't wait to see more of your vids and pics! seeing these makes me sad... the original line up is long gone ...

  • Comment removed

  • the residents are in reality POLITICIANS. They come on the scene disrupt mankind, make us confounded, then lead us down the path of the psychotic. The only hope of mankind is to send them back to their roots-WASHINGTON D.C.

  • @havenoneatall can laibach and the residents be very similar...conceptually?

  • @KanzerSkud Yes! I think CONTRACEPTUALLY they both have escaped from CONDOMS.

  • I don't care who are the true faces behind the Residents. It's not about the men in the costumes and stuff, it's about the music. :)

  • they created a new dimension....the twilight zone of music

  • im suggesting that theyre all from tom waits tom the limit of gay women ;o)

  • sinister exagerator ! fucking genius !! they dont make songs like this anymore (including the residents)

  • what's the actual name of the song used in this video

  • @dommer117 "Sinister Exaggerator" from The Residents' album "Duck Stab".

  • These are fantastic shots. beautiful. Such incredible years for them. I'm amazed.Thanks.

  • @tjodolFT

thank you. I think Lene Lovic was credited on the Ralph vinyl. Guess it was Andy Partridge. Or maybe it was to fill a couple boxes to make the notes fit the grid on the back of the album cover!!

  • Don't watch this video ...... they know where you live !!!

  • I doubt that they could afford a hitman

  • I hope ur right! This tent is getting cold. I can't stay much longer in Burbank.

  • @rossarooney

    hahahahahahahahaha

you're not in burbank..........i believe you to be living in stumptown or somewheres close.

  • @rossarooney do you plan on posting more home vids/pics?

    ... eagerly waiting!

  • @rossarooney At 0:35 you were writing something, I can see the caption...What is it?

  • How do we know it's really them? And are they dangerous?

  • Yes, it's really them and I have beefed up security!

  • @rossarooney

    I' m horrified and shocked.

  • Hardy is one of the wisest souls I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. What a sweet pleasure it was to see some photos of he and the extended family from younger days. Thank you!

  • Hardy was wise, talented and smart at a very young age. I would like to know him now.

  • Me too! I didn't meet him until 1981 but we were friends for many years. Alas, he found true love and left San Francisco, rarely to be seen ever since. :-) He provided some helpful insights several times when I was younger and more naive, and of course is just a great guy.

  • Thank-you from the bottom of my soul!

  • That's pretty deep and appreciated!

  • Part of me was hoping this would be disappointing so I could call you a sinister exaggerator. It wasn't.

  • Cleaver comment, but this is not complete. I have alot of other Rez stuff to post soon. I keep finding long-forgotten nuggets from our association.

  • It's possible that this is the Residents. It would be nice if they finally reveal who they are after all these years. But I seriously doubt that would ever happen.

  • It defies logic that anyone could dispute the legitimacy of these archives. Come on people! Use your brains! It is so obvious that these are the Residents.

  • well said.

  • Thanks for posting this. The "Residents' Interview" clip is similarly revealing.

Since it first was issued on vinyl, I have wondered who the "secret guest musician" is on the wonderful Residents' Commercial Album. Anyone know?

  • Yes, that is clearly Homer in the interview. His distinct voice can be heard in all their music and concerts.

  • Well, probably XTC's Andy Partridge.

  • Fred Frith

  • @PhotoCher They are Andy Partridge from XTC, singing Margaret Freeman, and Lene Lovic, singing Picnic Boy.

  • Sorry to break it to you guys, but the people in this video are just the regular members of the Cryptic Corporation, not the Residents. We will probably never know who the real Residents are...

  • Dude, these ARE The Residents, I was there helping them get started on the radio. They created the Cryptic Corp. as a cover to try to be a serious bidness much later than these photos. NOBODY but me and Schwump & some close friends knew about the Rez in the early 70's!! But as a die hard fan determined to believe their fairy tales & PR, you probably believe the flat-earth theory also.

  • I'm skeptical.

  • Are you seriously this dense? Of course I know that. The FUN in being a Residents fan is in trying to fool outsiders about the band's anonymity.

  • @theseat There r fools born everyday and it's easy to get people to believe just about anything if you blind them to the truth.

  • Seriously...where'd you get the picture at 1:38?

  • @Branchdweller - it was the inside of the tour program from the Mark of the Mole tour.

  • 1:38...the coolest picture of the Res that I have ever seen...where's that from?

I love the fact that they soldiered on once they knew they wouldn't finish Fats...would have destroyed a lot of other acts.

  • @Danimal14222 it was the inside of the tour program from the Mark of the Mole tour.

  • Does anyone have a copy of that pic that they can shoot me in an e-mail?

Please write me and let me know.

I'd love it, and I can't find it anywhere.

  • I wouldn't be surprised if The Residents had several "guests" standing in under their masks or helping them compose and develop concepts. That's what I want to know about.

  • They knew the value of getting real musicians to play the concerts, since they were novice players. Homer and Hardy have always been the creative 'genius' and have maintained complete control over all aspects of their work. Perhaps a few relatives and close friends contributed to some of it.

  • I almost met them after a show they did at the Palace in Hollywood. That didn't happen but I was told by a friend that knew them that it wasn't them up on stage.

  • was vileness fats really 14 hours or is that another myth?

    I can never tell.

Anyways it looks even more amazing in colour

  • Yes, they shot that many hours of videotape over several years on an obsolete technology.

  • I remember seeing shelves full of 'shot' videotape from endless shooting days and nights. Most of it is poorly lit, out of focus and worthless masturbating with a technology they barely understood. I'm amazed they were able to edit anything watchable. The color photos we shot are probably the best archive of their futile efforts.

  • hell yeah

  • what's the song playing?

  • Song is Sinister Exaggerator

  • THINKING FELLERS UNION LOCAL 282 did a very very good cover of "the electrutioner", worth the research ;)

  • rossarooney, do you know if Not Available was actually recorded in 1974 as they claim?

  • N.Senada=Harry Partch

N.Senada mens in Spanish "I dont know nothing"

  • please dont try to uncover them or you will also uncover their meaning and their music your´s trully N.Senada

  • OK i'll take ur advice. I'm soo bad!

  • Sinister Exaggerator...nice...

I know they never finsihed "Fats", what's the best version out there?

  • To my knowledge, there are only two versions and you better get both. One was put out on VHS around '84; widely available on PAL from Doublevision as a twofer with "Mole Show". The other is a shorter edit on "Icky Flix". One is thirty minutes and the other fifteen, but it has some bits and pieces the other one is missing.

Then, there are a few stills in uncle Willies' guidebook to the Residents, and the whole story was put on The Residents' website a few years back.

  • Thanks...the clips I have seen are surreally wonderful...

  • Easy folks. You just have only seen bunch of Cryptic Corp. executives. You still have no clue who The Residents are. Go back to sleep. Thank you.

  • How can you reveal their identity !!!?? how can you break the myth !!?? There's no more magic !! we love the reisdents because of the magic, we don't know them we only like their music and not the people as a stupid star icon. But anyway we don't have any proofs, that these are real pictures anyway and i don't understand why i should believe these are true anyway..you're a moron that did not understand a thing rossarooney !!!

  • Every once in awhile an ignorant jerk like you leaves a stupid comment denying the obvious! Bill & I were there in the beginning, the Rez creators and 'executives' were always Homer and Hardy and still are. I have more revealing material I will post when interest in their identity reaches some serious numbers.

  • America's ABBA

  • Bill looks like Les Claypool!

  • Who's Les Claypool?

  • Les Claypool is the bassist and singer for Primus. Still the only band I've ever seen that did a Residents cover.

  • Check out Eyesore: A Stab at the Residents!

It's a tribute album with lots o' good tracks.

  • Mmmmhhh... entraria a dudar...

posiblemente sean ellos, o posiblemente sean unos tipos contratados por the residents para hacerse pasar por ellos....

    o ninguna de las anteriores...

    D:

  • Rhoda's about 99.44/100% Gorgeous.

  • To the best of my knowledge, Hardy Fox is the sole survivor for the past 20 years, whereas they were a duo for maybe 5 years before that. At their "13th anniversary show" (1983), you could easily tell two of the "guys" were dancing women in suits.

They were probably a foursome when I saw them in 1981 (w/ Penn Jillette), whereas in Lund, Sweden, at the "Elvis and eye" gig in the early 90s, my friend worked backstage and had dinner (reindeer steak) with Hardy Fox...

    Any comment on that?

  • Homer and Hardy are still active Residents. Homer is 'Bunny Boy' and is the main creative force since their humble beginnings.

  • Thanx!

    /Jörg, Sweden

  • im really confused. i thought that no one knows who the residents are who are all these photos of?

  • Earth to confused, this is who they were and where they lived and worked. It's really not such a well-kept secret.

  • ...................... unmasked?

  • Cannabis plant at 0:06?

    LOOOOOOL

  • You're very observant!

  • I love it when outsiders find each other and congeal into little scenes that do great things. This looks just like early photos of the Dead or John Waters' gang or SST Records or probably the Dadaists.

  • yes I agree with bweita....we need a new influx of these kind of artist/communities....it really only takes a few people with a creative commitment to doing whatever it is they have a passion for.

  • Kids, if you want to piss off your parents, take an interest in the arts.

Kids, if you REALLY want to piss off your parents, buy real estate, in an imaginary place.

  • what about the other cryptic john kennedy?? got any picture??

  • i think this was before cryptic

  • Comment removed

  • i realize that........but i was saying that i thought these photos were taken before they FORMED the cryptic corp.

  • that comment was only up for a few seconds because I thought it made me sound like a dick. I'm surprised anyone saw it.

  • it somehow got sent to my messages box.....lol

  • These pics are from the "Rez Uninc" days, a few years before they formed 'Crytic Corp'.

  • Wow.....My folks used to listen to radiolab when i was little......great memories!

    Kboo fucking rocks!

  • Very cool! Some of Bill's 'Radio Lab' pgms are on the 'Willyrein' channel. Tune in and drop out.

  • The way you have the pictures and the song, Sinister, is quite, quite lovely.

    Major kudos to you sir

  • wow...................the first copys of "meet the rez" were sold at music millenium? Were you there for that?

  • Bill Reinhardt managed all the Rez original sales in PDX. I was not there then.

  • Fantastic pictures, Rossarooney, thank you very much.

I got their authographs (on the Eskimo album) on the 23rd october 1986 in Rotterdam (in exchange for the toy eyeball they later used for the Elvis doll on GI3P and King & Eye). Whose four authographs would that be then?

(obviously they all signed 'resident', and one is the handwriting of 'the residents' on the Fingerprince album)

  • wow!

thanks for your videos, I am from Greece and first heard them when I was 12.

It is fantastic to see some of the Rez history.

more more we want more :)

  • I vaguely remember meeting Tom Timony when he was hawking Resident merch. in the lobby for / of the Cube E tour. We may have even talked on the phone a couple times when he moved to Hoboken NewJersey... about selling stuff. I missed the past couple of Rez tours, by the way. I still wonder about all this mysterious stuff to this day, Thanks to all who know about this great stuff, man! p.s. where's Harvey?

  • Harvey is alive/ well doing the Cryptic biz and being a good 'Resident' behind the scenes.

  • Thankyou for posting this. I got into the Rez in 2000, and for a few years I was pretty obsessed about who they were and stuff (until I figured out a few things that were kinda obvious). So this is fun to see. I will always be curious as to how they financed their art, though. Maybe someday soon a book will come out that will tell all. They ARE getting a little old....

  • When I was close to their inner circle in the early years, they would take turns working, while one or two of them stayed home collecting unemployment and do the tasks of designing, recording and silk-screening for the albums. You have to realize, it was CHEAP to live then! The Sycamore St. studio was only 150$ a month for rent.

  • But Margareth, why would you make this informations public?

    I think it's wrong.

  • Wow. ANd people say The Rez are no longer valid, musically. just lookat all these responses. And by the way...Tom Timony was Unlce Willy. Tom was the owner of the New Ralph with his wife Sheenah (Jad Fair's ex-wife), and N. Senda WAS a real person (granted, that isn't his name), and anything seen in Bunny Boy "revealing" the singer/Mr. Skull is DISinformation. How do I know all this? I'll never tell. Thanks for the post, Margaret.

  • N.Senada was not real, you NIT! I was there when Homer and the boys were creating all this silly myth-madness. All their musical ideas came from vinyl. They were culture-starved kids from the suburbs and wannabees who managed to fool everyone.

  • Hehe that's even more brilliant :)

But does that mean you know The Residents personally too?

Anyhow, I use the N.Senada pseudo alot.. changed it to Ensenata though. It's just such a cool name, and (fake) story behind it. xD

  • Comment removed

  • Regarding the post from WmReinhardt - Bill does know the Residents and was involved (I believe) in several aspects of their work.

  • I always thought N. Senada was Captain Beefheart with some nonsense sprinkled on top. It's hard to estimate how important Beefheart was to the Rez.

  • Roberta, thanks for sharing this with community. I think this and other images can be assembled for a nice private documentary to share amongst the other people who were there, a sort of video yearbook of the life and times at Sycamore St.

  • hey. FYI music is subjective.

  • Really? Thats like saying that something is only someones opinion. Uh-huh....and night is darker than day and bullets hurt when shot into the body.

  • its just that you post like your opinion is superior to those who disagree with you.

  • I spose we all can do that. Mine isn't superior....it's just...mine.

  • Margaret defines foxy. Fact.

  • N. Senaada was Homer's early alter-ego, and yes very likely inspired by that address. Beefheart never knew about Homer or any of his hippie friend wannabees.

  • Thats brilliant! I had no idea about that one. Always wondered where the name came from. Danke flickwilly.

  • Wow!

  • Just one question I HAVE TO KNOW....who is margaret and where is she NOW?!!

  • Right here, dummy.

  • An eyewitness! Is "Pamela Zeibak" alive and well?

  • I was in Club Foot Orchestra and we used to rehearse in the Sycamore house! Snakefinger lived there and was in the band-good memories and great fun. H has put on a few pounds but still looks great and he and Homer are doing great work as always. FWIW they were my favorite all time landlords! They also at one time owned and ran ralph Records when we were on it.....sigh....!

  • May god bless you boys. I love you dearly. Grandma. Snaggle bread and looperdole.

  • This is incredible! The Residents Unmasked!!!!! Do THEY know?!!

  • No, they live in a cocoon surrounded by investment bankers and Blackwater security guards. They are not allowed to use the internet or go outside the compound.

  • I just saw these guys play in Chicago 2 nights ago. What an amazing show. I'm fortunate to say I've seen them 14 times, and have been a fan for 26 years.

  • i feel your pain!

  • What track is the music on this

  • Sinnister exaggerator. It is off of Duck Stab/Buster Glenn. Get it!

  • Have done thanks great album

  • Wow, this was intense. I just saw Rez do Bunny Boy show In Philly and was amazed how much face Mr Skull showed. This video helps me piece the last 30 years of my Rez listening. 5 Stars!

  • It was nice growing up here in the Frozen North, listening to and taping all the old Radio Lab shows, I can't wait to see the same treatment given' to Barry's Onomatopeia show, KBOO was way ahead of it's time!!!

  • I guess it was Homer in the Eloise vid.

  • Oh... more wow!

  • Fantastic stuff - I grew up in SF around this time and it was a magical time.

  • Whos the cute dark-haired chick that Hardy is molesting in those pics on the couch?

  • That was Rhoda, Bills girlfriend and a DJ at KBOO in Portland.
