Anyone of the people who is talking about this plays the trumpet? I play it, and I must say that he only fails one time, and in a hard note (very high Eb), so don't talk about if you don't know.
No wonder he missed the high Eb. He was already pinching the G and A above the staff, making the Eb impossible. And terrible tuning; truly failing the excellent, ground-breaking work that is the Haydn Concerto.
@Jorgenezz10 Haha then explain the tuning on the G and A above the staff. If you cannot hit those notes without straining, then you have no chance with the Eb. So continue trolling, I know a bit about playing trumpet. I'm a trumpet major ;)
@kville105125 Being out of tune means your out of tune. Not that youre pinching. And Im not trolling, Im just telling you that youre wrong :D Mr Trumpet Major man, you missed a class or two....
He actually did pretty good. Admittedly, his tone quality was a little tight, and he failed on the high Eb, but that kind of range is reserved for the ultimate overachievers. Better than I could do.
@shabernethy Hardly "the overachievers" if you have even the slightest dedication to this grand instrument you would be able to build that range, i\you accomplish nothing by calling tose that try over achievers.
As hilarious as this is, I really do get sick of listening to people butcher the Haydn. Somehow the Haydn has become one of the "go to" solos for younger players. In reality, there are very VERY few high school players who have any business performing it, and still very few college undergraduates. It is very tough to play well. Find something you have a chance of success at and when you are ready then go for the Haydn.
I enjoyed it. Remove the Epic Fail and this video would be a million times less controversial and (possibly) have a lot more views. This is a very respectable concerto that I couldn't even dream of learning on my lousy trumpet.
I'm sure you've never even touched a trumpet before, much less played one. Let's leave the critiques to the musicians that KNOW what they're talking about.
We've all been there as brass players. Have empathy. Sometimes the instrument just say "no". Brass instruments have 'tude sometimes... especially horns.
Fail? Come on guys, if you don't have much experience in music then you wouldn't think much of this but the trumpet, like all other brass instruments, is one of the hardest instruments to play and very few trumpeters get to the point where they can even face this piece.
You guys are all deaf. The failing starts at 0:48. It's not just the passage up to the dominant. He's fucking terrible. Awful tone, bad time, miserable articulation, overall shit technique.
@mrwasbesonders That's a Db, bro. And if you're a horn player and you're speaking in Bb instead of concert (like a real musician), don't admit it and reveal to everyone what a bonehead you are. But then, anyone who thinks that missing the trash is more humiliating than sounding this bad clearly needs help.
@dangerbooboo Are your ears are so good you can tell that it is played on a C trumpet then? Unlikely that it is. Probably an Eflat trumpet which would make it a top B flat. And the fail doesn't start at 0:48, the fail recording hasn't even started then. And I've always stood up for a belief that Americans have a great sense of irony. My comments about the waste paper bin were not to be taken literally. And me a bonehead? Often one learns more about the accuser than the accused.
@mrwasbesonders Ok, I was just breakin yer balls but now I have to be real. You're fucking stupid. You're probably a music educator, aren't you? I wouldn't be the least bit surprised. The fact that I called it a Db has nothing to do with the type of trumpet being played. I said it's a Db because it's a Db, dumbass. Maybe I'm spoiled because I work with musicians who don't have to read (and think and speak) in their instruments' key. You know... GOOD musicians.
@dangerbooboo Oh right, GOOD musicians, you mean the ultimate musical snobs - fuckers who play jazz. Without any dots, WOW! Yeh, and that's REAL music, well done. And yes I realise it's a concert D flat, congratulations, aren't you clever?! YOU are obviously the music educator as you are trying to educate me and so far you have done that very well. What I have learnt so far is that you are a hair splitting, argumentative, offensive narcissist. And you probably also have some bad points
@dangerbooboo Ok, the fail recording does start at 0:48 but not the fail itself. Yes, it is shit right from the beginning compared to the other, but frankly it is a passable student effort. Do you actually know how hard this piece is? Are you a trumpeter? If you are and find this piece easy my hat is off to you. And that is not sarcasm, I really mean that.
It was going very well till the scale up to the E flat that would have been at 1:19! Then I reckon he or she thought, "this is my big chance", always a recipe for disaster. Easily done, been there myself many times in many situations. Before trying to pot a black in pool, sink a double at darts, sing a high note in karaoke, taking a penalty in soccer, or trying to throw a screwed up piece of paper in a waste paper bin from a distance the last one being the most humiliating.
The only "Epic" fail is the "Epic" over use of "Epic Fail." I don't see how this is an epic failure in any sense. One person plays better than the other... omg, stop the press.
ok the first one is Wynton .. and the second is prob a HS senior .. no reason to compare .. other than the fact the second is well on their way to play this work great.. rather than be compared to a Great.
I did not hear anything "fail" on this clip, although the 2nd player was awful sharp all the way through his part; he forgot to tune. He didn't even crack the high note so much as he didn't hit the center pitch
id put money on the fact that 90% of the chumps posting dont even play! the 2nd effort wasnt that bad at all sure it wasnt performance quality non the less their sound isnt too bad. The articulation leaves a bit to be desired and intonation was a bit fail in places but a bit more work and it would sound good just not as good as Wynton
For that to be an epic fail, it needs to be blatantly obvious to a non music person like myself. The second one probably could have been better, but it wasn't back.
i think its so obvious which is the good one that you dont even need to write the FTW and the EPIC FAIL. people should notice the difference without any problem ;)
Funny story! A little over a year ago I performed this in my school's orchestra. I was Horn 2. The solo trumpetist had made a very noticeable mistake in the final movement of it, making an entrance one bar early, being with the orchestra rather than against it. He eventually fixed himself, but kicked himself for the whole night after that mistake. :P
Because every great trumpet player was born great, and criticizing someone based on a single snapshot of their performing career is cool to do. Love these kinds of videos *facepalm*
@timeconsumer09 ah yes, exactly. this video is ridiculous. the second guy is obviously still an amateur and doing well. why compare him to someone world-class.
Really not that bad. If you're a perfectionist and posted this video about yourself, fine. But overall, a valiant effort.
