It is an economic fact that unemployment insurance increases unemployment:
Lawrence H. Summers, Obama and Clinton’s economic adviser, in his article titled “Unemployment,” published in The Concise Enilcopedia of Economics, writes, “What Causes Long-Term Unemployment? Empirical evidence shows that two causes are WELFARE payments and unemployment INSURANCE.”
Unemployment money is barely a get by, it helps but its a temporary measure. THE BIG QUESTION I ask of the scum in D.C. IS WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT BRINGING PRIVATE SECTOR JOBS BACK? Nobody seems to be asking that question what-so-ever. I want my job back but thanks to scum from Wall Street who wrecked this country with their Ponzi schemes in housing and finance that isn't going to happen. Not everybody can work at Walmart.
Got NEWS for ya. There ARE NO JOBS!!!!!!!! All the jobs lost are not coming back. The Government has sold us out by letting CORPORATE AMERICA and the Wall Street pirates DO AS THEY PLEASE. They got a BAILOUT for being Thieves and lairs while Average Joe and Jane America GOT JACKED in the process. They have sent most of our manufacturing base to foreign countries for SLAVE labor. And we have sooooo many Non-Americans here who have taken jobs that should be had by Americans.
I'm 60. I cannot find a job. I went to school for 2 years, I still can't find a job. I went to a food pantry for the first time in my life the other day. My dinner is usually toast and coffee.
She's right. We are the ones who pay the price. The amount of government spending these fools burn through each and every day create more debt for us to continue to pay the price. Taxing $1.00 does not create $2.15 in return. If that were the case, let's tax 100% and start lighting our cigars with thousand dollar bills.
Emotional pleas cannot make up for bad economics. Increasing the national debt won't create jobs. Michigan will continue to suffer with this type of representation.
These unemployed people that have exhausted all their benefits can't wait for all the delay the Senate has done. They have no income coming in at all and the bill just keep on piling up.
It's a shame that our elected officials are eating high end lunches and have wondeful healthcare while people are unemployed while looking for work. Its bad out there
As one who this legislation affects, I was very curious about what was happening with it. Now I know. -- As usual, the Party of No is once again up to their old obstructionist tricks -- and to no benefit to the American public.
Senator Stabenow is correct, guys like me are indeed applying for jobs and trying hard to get one. Anyway, I find it simply unconscionable that the GOP would play a game with this. -- Don't let them get away with it!
7,000 people a day are losing their benefits because the Republican Senators see fit to stall. This shows a great disconnect between this party and the working people in this country. the 2010 elections are coming around and they will see the results of their actions. It is criminal to delay passage of this saftey net to people who paid into this all of their lives. When all is said and done restitution should be paid to those who suffered by their actions.
I can't stand the Senate. Everything always gets bogged down there. If these "representatives" of the people quit worrying about party and work for the good of the United States we would be in a better place. They don't have to worry about where their next paycheck (or meal) is coming from.
I am absolutely devastated to hear that it was blocked once again.
When I saw your video, I fell apart and just sobbed. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support and standing up for us. I was deeply moved. I am so happy I voted for you.

I am a democrat, but you can be rest assured, you have my vote!!!
You understand the importance of keeping some money coming into the household, while we diligently search for employment.
